My phone arrived on Thursday, £2.29 to unlock it and got the 5.1 update straight away. Very impressed with it, although if you're used to a flagship you'll probably find that this isn't very aesthetically pleasing. Just filling up the 128GB card and this is a hell of a machine for the money.

Just a quick note to say that the OTA 5.1.1 update downloaded and installed itself without any problems. As far as I can tell, every thing that was working before is working still.

Just checked and yes, I have the 5.1.1 update on my SU6. It's downloading as I type this. I have a FreedomPop SIM in my phone which I thought might block the update but clearly it doesn't.

Reading through the comments there it sounds like the Turkish rom might be the one to stick with anyway.

How would this phone compare to my current Samsung Galaxy Note 2? Looks as though I can get £85 trading it in so if this is going to be be an improvement for a net spend of £15 I'll consider it

If anyone wants to find out anything about this phone, they should check out the MoDaCo dedicated forum. So many questions appear in every deal for this handset that have all been answered there.
Wondering if Update will still be offered if this phone has been Network unlocked and secondly is it likely that installing the Upgrade will relock the phone? Many thanks.

As per the dedicated thread on this - yes, it will work fine even if on another carrier.
For those that still don't have it, it's expected the first "push out" has already completed and then all remaining phones will be Dec 12, so you just need to be patient.

Hi, I have had one of these for a few months now and I am very happy with it. I got it for £99 and I used Ebay to get an unlock key. 3 days ago it offered me the upgrade to Android 5.1.1 and I immediately chose to install it. All appears to be well since except that the phone no longer switched off easily. I now have to go to the 'make a call' screen then it switchees off with no dificulty. Camera OK for me. Battery great compared to my old Samsung and I can get almost two days out of a charge with light use. Overall very happy with the phone over the past few months. Great value for the money when you check out the specs.

I used fonzdirect on ebay, code was £2.25 just make sure you give the correct IEMI they will then send you a code, put in your new non vodafone nano sim, the phone will ask for the code, you have 10 chances to enter it correctly.
Brick it means your electronic item no longer works so is just as good as a house brick, dont worry this wont happen here.

What app are people swapping the text messaging for?

I've been using the stock Google Hangouts app with the swype keyboard, been more than happy with both.

Or buy a tempered glass screen protector separately - about £3 each, inc. from UK stock.

4 Dec 15#12
I've got one of these pending a return to Amazon as I ordered a Moto G 3rd Gen for the Mrs instead and it was unlocked/no bloat etc. I haven't opened the box etc so I'm not sure what it's like or how much bloat it has or what aggro I'm going to have unlocking it.
I'd been toying with the idea of keeping it myself to replace my Moto G 2nd gen.
Can anyone tell me why I shouldn't send it back and why it should replace my 2nd gen Moto ?
hapless to JerzyBulovski
4 Dec 151#16
Because it's a great phone.
Easy uninstall the Vodafone bloat, left with a near vanilla Android experience, the 5.1.1 update is rolling out now without the voda rubbish so all good.

Bigger screen, higher resolution, twice the RAM, twice the Flash - I think it beats the Moto G quite nicely.

If you don't have a nano SIM then you can either cut down your current SIM card, or get a new one from your provider.

In case it helps anyone i just chatted to Three via online chat and they can send a replacement nano sim for free but advised it may cost up to £5 to do this in store. No brainer there then. New sim only comes to life when it is activated so no issues for xmas.

Recently got this phone. Really impressive for £100. Build quality is superb, screen is excellent, processor is speedy and the camera is really good. The previous phone I has was an iPhone 4s so for me, a big difference. Also, it's quite nice to have an alternative to an iOS phone. I find Android really nice to use.

4 Dec 151#32
Have to say this is a brilliant phone for the price.
- Unlocking is easy and costs around £1.99 on eBay.
- Most of the Vodafone apps can be uninstalled. The rest can be disabled.
- The battery life is decent and the phone's performance cannot be questioned at this price point.
- Please note that this phone is very big in terms of size. The screen is very pleasant but it's obvious the size won't be perfect for everyone.
- £100?? You can't go wrong in my opinion.
- Oh and the phone has NFC, 4G, Bluetooth and wifi.
Enjoy!

Picked one of these up during the last deal and I'm pretty happy - it's a bigger phone than I'd really like but problems are few
Power button is a bit-too-easy to hit and the case feels a bit cheap and has a ridge around the side which feels like the back is loose (it's not even removable) - both of those solved with a gel case for £2.99!!
That non-removable back means no swapping batteries - but the battery life is pretty amazing (see below) so I don't really care.
Screen lacks the saturated color of devices like Samsungs - but they do oversaturate everything and I've gotten used to seeing my pictures 'as they really are' and not in some weirdo HDRed glow.
People criticize the camera and it's not amazing but it's not terrible either - it's better than the camera in my other half's Xperia M (which shoots in 'blue' or 'orange' tints) - it's as-good-or-better than the one in my S3 was - I need no more than that.
It's a lot of phone for £100 - the battery is particularly impressive as my old S3's battery was 3.5 years old and wouldn't last a whole day - but even when new it wouldn't last 2 wheras this lasts 3 and has something left over****
**** it might even last 4 but it starts throwing "Low Battery" warnings (which causes some apps to stop syncing and other things) at 25% - rather than the usual 15% - no idea why but you kinda have to recharge at that point.
therealjohnpeat
4 Dec 151#20
Unlocking is dead simple and cheaply done (see my last comment)
Bloat - I uninstalled all the Voda apps from the normal Settings->Apps - 2 cannot be removed (Message+ and Vodafone Update) but they can be disabled - which means I have what appears to be a completely 'vanilla' Android device with the only sign of it's Vodafone past being the logo on the back ;0
The Moto G 'feels a bit better' (the grippy back plus slightly better materials) and some people reckon it's a bit quicker overall but it's also 40% more expensive. If you care about 'clean Android' and 'latest Android' it MIGHT be worth the extra - at this price point I'll take what I get.
