I've sent them another message with the following text. Hopefully I'll get a better outcome this time:
"It looks like this would require me to front the postage costs on this item, which isn't acceptable. The deal was tweeted out by Nintendo along with a photograph showing the game and the cap, your store included the game and the cap in both the photo and the description. Speaking to other people who bought the deal, it now it seems that this mistake was noticed by yourselves a day before the items were shipped out, essentially forcing customers to either accept the item which was not as sold (the bundle was clearly advertised and sold as a bundle not a single item) or pay additional costs to send the item back. I've obtained screenshots of all marketing around this bundle and I'll be taking all available documentation to my local trading standards office. I will be willing to accept an item of similar value if the cap is unavailable, otherwise my only option is to speak to trading standards and ask them to investigate."

Had nothing but bad service from Nintendo/The Hut, ordered items and wanted them cancelled, cancelled 2 days before the items were due for despatch yet they still sent them, wasting there own time and money really, returns labels are provided via collect+, threaten with whatever means to get postage cost returned too.

This is ridiculous. If the cap was mentioned at one point - the product page for example - then it would be acceptable as a mistake, but it featured in every instance of the advertisement and order process.
Nintendo UK tweeted an image of the game & cap, with a price tag.
The product page again featured an image of the game and cap, with a price.
The order confirmation page - that had the same.
Email confirmation - both items.
Order summery which is STILL on the website despite now denying the cap should be included - also shows a cap in my order.
Really terrible business practise to say "we listed, confirmed and double-confirmed an item, then shipped something completely different before informing you".
And on that note, since it's shipped, and money's been taken for that order, aren't they at least morrally obliged to fulfil it?

The HUT Group are a terrible company to deal with. Their customer support policies are basically always anti-consumer. I'm going to have to avoid using them completely because this kind of stuff happens far too much.
It was already irritating when a couple of months ago with Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer they sent the free gift 1 month after the game's release - by which point the game was already much cheaper elsewhere. Basically removed the competitive advantage and reason I ordered it from them.

Their own terms of sale state - "Our acceptance of your order will take place only when we dispatch the products that you ordered from us" - this was listed and sold as a single item therefore the dispatch of the game is an acceptance of the order in full hence give us our caps you cowboys!

Zavii have it in stock for £11.99. Still a great price. This seems a lot like the kinda game that will be a good investment in the years to come.
