I have relied on many posts in the past for trips to France but they have dried up after P&O Ferries changed their site at the beginning of the year. So for a change I thought I would provide a contribution.
Late yesterday I caught the tail end of an advert from a Sunday paper regarding day trips to France and I have been on a forage through the internet and I found this current offer from the beginning of November: http://www.pressreader.com/uk/daily-express/20151107/282557312085980/TextView
As usual there are some T&Cs but the gist of it is that foot passengers can go for a £1 Sunday to Tuesday, and £9 for the rest of the week, plus get a free bottle of wine (on outward journey). Travel by car from £15.

Anyone got any experience with booking a return day trip and only using a one way? Do they charge the supplement if not using the return or is it just an idle threat?
Always get stung with the one way fare being a lot more than these day trip returns. :disappointed:

Best way to go one way is to book your return ticket with the return sailing on the next boat after your arrival. Then go to the information desk on board the boat and inform them that you are on a round trip/staying on-board. They may ask whether the deck crew have been informed and say yes. You have to give them the second potion of your ticket (keep the wine voucher); this is best done when you get on-board, but in any case before you reach Calais - there is usually an announcement calling for round trip ticket holders. Then get off the boat as normal - no supplement required.
Incidentally, you can do the same when booking a ticket from Calais to Dover (on P&O Ferries).
The other way is to book as normal but check in on your return crossing. Then instead of going to the berth just drive out of the port. The only snag with this is that you have to go through the effort of passport control and the delays involved.
For foot passengers, just book a round trip and get off with the other foot passengers at Calais.
When doing round trips be sensible; do not turn up loaded up with all your stuff, on the other hand if there is more than one of you one can be waiting with the luggage as the other checks in. Do not let check-in staff know what you are doing.
Beware that if there are adverse weather conditions day-trip and round-trip travellers may have to rebook.
Hope this helps.

Useful for the dogooders and tree huggers who feed and clothe the illegals waiting to be smuggled into UK!!.

Given that this site is for deals and not politics, I still rather dislike your sneering attitude towards what you call 'dogooders'. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do good, whether misguided or not.
