Diesel 4.5 a ltr cheaper than petrol wholesale yet at the pumps its 6p a ltr more expensive its ridiculas

Last time I heard ,diesel callies 1p more duty than petrol.

Yup, current wholesale price of petrol in the UK including VAT and duty (as of yesterday) was 98.4p, but big supermarkets will be buying for less than this, probably about 96-97p, so 99.9p per litre is affordable at the pumps. Diesel was 2p LESS per litre than petrol, so they can afford to go down to 97.9p per litre. Profiteering? Yes, the supermarkets are, to the tune of about 2p per litre on petrol and 7p per litre on diesel. Profiteering? Yes, the Government are, by charging us between 10-15p per litre MORE in duty than most other EU member states charge their citizens. Ripped off? Yes, we are being.

These reductions (although welcome) do not in any way reflect the recent massive reductions in the wholesale prices which are only partly passed on to us.

Have found that tesco fuel doesn't last long .... There's no longer an incentive to get fuel from tesco as they stopped the fuel saving !!

You said always, not "it was cheaper yesterday" A month ago the prices were the other way round.

Mmm I'm partly with you on this but personally I wouldn't mind paying an extra 1 or 2 p a litre if it guaranteed better social care- guaranteed being the important word!! Mind I know someone up here who drove 10 miles out of his way to get petrol at 2p a litre less- I'm no mathematician but doesn't strike me as partularly cost effective!!

With the amount of oil we plunder, I want cheaper petrol prices. Instead it's extra profit for oil companies.

Surely we are being ripped off due to government not managing welfare better? If I cross the NI border I can get diesel for about. 85p at the minute.

I love tesco excuse that there is a different price because of delivery.
Yet I can go a 3 tesco's all within 10 miles of each other. The Superstore is always a penny cheaper than the other two.
The only way to get the cheaper one is by driving through either of the towns where it is a penny more expensive.

Truth is, Asda is only located in the town where tesco is the cheaper price, so the other 2 towns are obviously subsidising the increase. Asda is 0.02p cheaper.

It really needs to be looked at how they fix their prices.

It helped me, I have to drive past a Tesco garage to get to Asda. It's the same price in both garages. I saved on a couple of extra driving miles and also got Tesco points so for me it was a better deal to purchase from Tesco. :smiley:

Fair enough if this was an asda price, but its tesco prices differ station to station
