AO's own brand TV. The website lists suspiciously few features but I looked at photos of the back and decided that it is probably just a rebranded version of this TV (normally £699) :
They have a 14 day return policy, so I took a punt. edit: The returns policy is void if you open the box.
Well it has arrived and I can confirm that the manual specifies 4k 60fps over HDMI, which means it is HDMI 2.0 and likely HDCP 2.2. THe manual also confirms HEVC. I'm now certain that it's the same TV as above and has the 'holy trinity' that people keep referring to. Also, the Finlux Remote app works on it.
The smart interface is fine. The menus are a little confusing - they seem to change depending on what input you're using! Even the main menu for adjusting picture and audio are different for different inputs.
Additional features that I've found that aren't mentioned on the website:
Bluetooth for pairing with a phone or soundbar.
WiDi - Wireless display. This works great from my Android phone under the hidden display settings. Won't work properly with either of my Windows laptops, although that is probably more a Windows problem.
Cast YouTube videos straight to it, even without a Chromecast.
Comes with some 3d glasses, however the 3D is very poor. Too blurry to use (unless I'm not configuring properly, which is entirely possible).
Comes with a bunch of analogue converter cables.
The remote even comes with batteries.
You can disable inputs altogether. Perfect for me as I'll be switching between Plex Server and Chromecast only. Woohoo!
The panel is definitely Vestel. It looks good, but not as good as an LG. If you're never going to look at them side-by-side, it probably won't bother you. This deal is really about specs for price.
On the whole, this has exceeded my expectations and is by far the best deal I could for such a large 4k TV with HDMI 2.0, HEVC and HDMCP 2.2.
EDIT: The internal YouTube player / media player is a bit jerky. I get much smoother (although not 4k) playback using my Chromecast. I'd recommend using a Chromecast or external player.
Code DECEMBER30 brings it to £469.

Its a Vestel but reasonably good value. Check out reviews for the Panasonic X410B series, especially on Amazon as its essentially the same TV with the same issues I would imagine.

This doesn't have 2d to 3d conversion or USB recording, not sure those 2 features are worth £100 mind but specswise the finlux one looks better.

I haven't seen a gaming mode in the menu.
I'm not sure about input lag as I don't use it for gaming at all (I'm a PC gamer). It is back in its box now as I'm moving house this week but I can test for you after I move. How would I test this?

have you tried it on your PC? according to the finlux manual there should be a game mode in picture mode...
well nothing scientific but just see if its playable or if there is any input lag with a mouse or controller?

I'm not unpacking it again now as it's all taped up, but I should move on Wednesday so I'll test on maybe Thursday? If I don't come back, give me a reminder and I'll test for you. I really don't remember game mode at all and I did spend quite a bit of time in the menus. There was definitely movie mode and auto (but I couldn't tell the difference).
There is no motion smoothing setting like Sony etc, but that's cool because I hate motion smoothing. I think it makes movies look cheap.

The previous passive 3D models have always come with 8 pairs but they are cheap to buy anyway from many places, unlike the better but more expensive and heavier active shutter ones.
3D depends on the type of content you are seeing, some films and documentaries are excellent some are poor. It also depends on how your eyes work, I have several friends who can not see 3D properly either on my passive 3D TV or on my projector with active 3D, due to eye problems. Friends who have no eyesight problems think 3D is great on both but obviously bigger is better, especially where 3D is concerned :smirk:.

sorry for all the questions but I really just want to get the best deal and I'm replacing an old 50"so I'd like to go to 55" if this is as good, the reviews on the hisense have been favorable so far.
got the 65" DigiTech from tesco a while back, which was incredible and have been sold on these vestel rebadges ever since.

I did submit a review to the ao.com website about this tv, don't think they uploaded it yet though. One key point they do miss on the website is that the tv has optical/spdif output, which is quite useful as the built in speakers are quite poor.

I'll test the 3d later this week when move house when I have unpacked the TV. 2d to 3d is in the menu for sure.
3d was genuinely horrible when I tried it from my laptop but I could have been doing it wrong.
One thing to note is there is not scaling setting on the TV aside from like, Zoom, 16:9, 4:3 etc. So my laptop doesn't fill the screen. At 4k there is about a 1 inch gap all around.
Neither my laptop or the TV have the option to fine tune this.

I've only had my set a week, and have used the 3D function twice, watched Jurassic World (side by side) and was very impressed, found it better than my old 40" bedroom tv.

Don't forget to set the TV to side by side 3D mode using the Q-menu button.

This is the exact video I played from my PC. Set the tv 3D setting to 'side by side'. It was unwatchable. It looked like the rollercoaster had two tracks pointing about 35 degrees away from each other. I'll try it with the in-built youtube player.

anyone had theirs yet, mines arrives tomorrow. first time ive bought a cheaper range tv. always had LG's best, but unfortunately my kids like to throw things and my last £2500 tv was worth £550 on insurance within a year. to be fair , never really used any of the features on it. 3d was only ever used once

Finally got mine today, got it set up and am playing MGS V on my PS4 (seems to be fine in game mode, no noticeable blur, even if I spin the camera around 360 quickly).
Wrote a review on ao, will take a few days to appear so im giving you all a preview!
Fantastic deal. Same manufacturer (Vestel) as my 65" digihome TV. Just set up out of the box and it found my home network and media server instantly.
Picture looks great on my ps4, 4k tested using the built in YouTube app on the TV, sent via the YouTube app on my phone (also worked straight away).
I can recommend this TV 100%, I have had two Vestel built TV's over the last year and both have set up and worked flawlessly out of the box. Unless you HAVE to have the very best top of the range screen and speakers you will not be able to fault this TV set this price, which worked out about half the price of the next cheapest Sony or Samsung. It easily competes with the big brand sets and unless you are going to compare them side by side you will be more than happy with the results. Looks just as good, (or better when in 4k) as my old Panasonic plasma.
The only small issue is the 3D is passive so not as clear as an active set but the glasses are much cheaper and the passive 3D on this matches the quality of my other 3D TV so it's still fine for me.
Seen to have gone up in price slightly but I'd still recommend it. Almost identical to the 65" digihome Tesco did a while back (only with 4k and 3D added) in terms of menu and remote but the build quality seems a bit better on both now (remote batteries don't rattle at all and the menus seem even quicker :smiley:)

Just had my second one delivered as an exchange as the 3D image was showing split either side of the screen rather than in centre. Replacement TV is doing exactly the same thing when in 3D mode. Can't work out or adjust any settings that seem to be able to get a correct 3D image to work. AO very helpful and willing to send out a third replacement but am I do something wrong? I have a Techwood number so may try Monday and see if any technical help as it is strange two TV's doing the same. Anyone else experienced anything like this?
