Just go for the BA amex card which is Free or maybe the platinum card and have someone refer you - takes the annual fees off ? The gold one is indeed expensive and they dont waive off the membership, so I also closed it after a year of benefits.

Amex are quite inconsistent about where and when the sign ups become available. These threads are great because someone posts them when they spot them to help us all out.
parky200
3 Dec 15#44
It's an OK card, it all depends on what you are trying to do. BA run 2 cards - a free one, you get a few more points if referred, and the paid one. The paid one is better if you are chasing the 2-4-1 voucher as it is triggered at £10k rather than £20k and it is valid for 2 years rather than 1.

The Walthamstow selborne walk branch said they do Apple, Amazon, iTunes, Google, debenhams, next and a few more. So it's always better to ring in and find out before making a trip if anybody wants gift cards.

The store I visited only seemed to stock £25 Amazon cards. I asked if I could split in two card payments of £10 and £15 (over two Amex cards) but the staff seemed very unsure of this, thinking it was only possible if part paying in cash. Anyone had success splitting over two Amex cards in this case?

matwalaboy
5 Dec 152#71
I tried the same with the superdrug at the high street and they refused it - saying a single transaction can't be split on 2 cards, and since its one item, it can't be split into 2 transactions to allow paying using both cards. Found the reasoning rather lame - I mean its my money, I can chose to pay whichever ways ! But ah well.

It's a shame they don't do 'blank' cards where you can add a credit of your choice (say minimum £10). I would have bought 3 x £10 Amazon giftcards given the chance, but ended up with 2 x Next £10 cards and 1 x Debenhams £10 card.
All immediate email confirmations, unlike the 'shop small' issues we've had today. Only 3 email confirmations from 8 transactions! On top of that, 2 x merchants who don't take AMEX and one of those never has!
