I recently brought TV from VERY who like other retailers like to charge the earth for additional warranty. Found this link and emailed Sony my details this morning and they emailed back with an hour.. I now have a 5 year Sony warranty

Good luck with that... they don't even honour their 1 year warranty... their call centre is based in Egypt & you will hit a brick wall trying to get them to fix a faulty TV. They have an out clause in the fine print in their Warranty where they can blame the problem on a "software issue" & thereby indemnify themselves. Will never buy Sony again but I strongly advise to buy additional warranty from the retailer.

Different people and different experiences!
I previously had a Sony TV for over 4 years and when it went wrong I was advised which local service centre to take it and it was repaired free of charge. More recently I have spoken to an English lady and American man on their helpdesk so perhaps its luck of the draw.
Its free to and if you already have purchased a Sony tv in the sales its nice to have.

Not luck of the draw... only Wales gets UK based service... the rest of us are directed offshore. Trust me... I am not one to give in easily but I hit a solid brick wall.

Why on earth would they give Wales alone, UK based service?
It does seem a bit odd

Well I think its a good deal agcard. I got a 6 year warranty from Richer Sounds with my tv and I have every reason to expect they will honour it. Good luck with your telly mate.

Richer Sounds warranty is unbeatable... it has nothing to do with Sony & cannot even be compared.

Look it up on the web. I had so much trouble with the "UK" help line, I called the Wales repair centre number only to be told sorry we only deal with Welsh customers. It doesn't make sense. All I can say is if you have a problem, make sure it is a hardware issue that they cannot pass off as a software issue. The inbuilt media player was faulty but they refused to repair saying it was a software problem. Much like Dell, they are based offshore & just have a team of technicians they send out if you can actually get them to do so. For the most part I believe the retailers end up doing the repair if you are willing to be without your TV for at least 4 weeks. Anyways, you live & learn, no one believes stuff until it happens to them.
