Nearly all of my hi-fi/home cinema stuff is second hand. Definitely feel like I get more for my money.

This is a good price. Personally though I would go for the denon avr 1200 w from Amazon. De for about £280 new but if you're not fussed about atmos then the Sony dn 860 from Amazon. Fr for £300 the 1060 was also £400 from Amazon. De

The 1060 is the same price at Richer Sounds so no need to buy from Germany, looking at the spec though it seems lower that the 1050, I'm after the multi zone functionality on the HDMI and the 1050 had 3 zones whereas the 1060 only has 2. The 860 you recommend only has 1

I tried to get hold of one of these from Richer a few months back, says in stock in numerous stores, rang them all with no look. 'Sorry sir it is out on loan to a customer', 'Sir that one has no remote and is scratched quite badly', 'Sir there must have been an issue with the system as we don't have one'. Gave up in the end and bought a second hand Yammy from AV Forums. Good piece of kit if you can get one though.

I've had a few dealings with Richer Sounds recently and have given up on them now. Often rude, condescending and quite impatient - spoke to 3 separate stores a few days ago about setting up an AV based surround system and they were not really helpful at all - seemed like I was interrupting them to be honest.
My local store just ended the call abruptly by saying he had a delivery to take in so had to end the call, but said I was free to call back later sometime or the next day! He wasn't on his own as I could hear colleagues talking and laughing in the background.
I had very reasonable questions that needed asking as I was trying to understand all the different aspects to surround systems, but each store I spoke to clearly couldn't be bothered to have to suffer the indignation of speaking to a newbie non-nerd/geek like me - and I thought they prided themselves on customer service and "anything you want to know, just ask our friendly and knowledgeable staff!" (insert smiley face here).
So bought from Peter Tyson who were much more helpful.
And I agree about their systems - the fact you almost always have to phone to check stock and then to find out they don't have it, or they "may" but what they have is reserved for somebody so they can't say for sure, or whatever other rubbish they come out with. I just find RS, their poor on-line systems and whole attitude rather tedious, so I no longer buy from them. Their loss.

For those interested, Peter Tyson are offering the new Denon AVR-X2200W with Tannoy HTS101 XP 5.1 speaker package for £799 with free delivery and free cable package (£99 normally everywhere, not just Peter Tyson).
The Denon has Dolby Atmos and DTS:X plus 8in/2 out, all of which are HDCP 2.2 compliant which is essential for 4k use.
Seems a lot but the Denon is £500 separate and the Tannoy speakers are £599 separate so a very good deal as £400 off taking into account the cable pack and free delivery. Both the Denon and Tannoy speakers have recently been awarded best awards by What Hi-Fi in the last couple of months.

That's the same price at RS but unsure about the leads, according to the spec on the Denon the 2 HDMI's our are not zonable so rules that out for me, Sony and Pioneer models that are lower down the range have independent HDMI outputs

The Denon has a fantastic feature set though, even if it doesn't support Zones.

Ha ha yea, fantastic feature set if they're the features you need, if you need something as basic as multi room HDMI output then it's no good

I'm still learning about all this but I think the description on RS is wrong - when you select the Denon and at least one other and go to "compare", it states HDMI Zone Out is "No", but also it states under Multiroom "Zone 2 Active/Passive". Is this the same thing?

That means it has 2 HDMI's but can only show the same content in both rather than 2 independent sources, the multi zone that listed as active/passive refers to audio only so you can watch tv through the amp but have internet radio on in the other zone

Oh ok, thanks for the explanation. I don't think that's a deal breaker for me, but I can see it would be for some. Strange that less expensive, and less feature packed AVs do have multizone.

I guess they have a user base/budget to stick to. Even if cheaper AV's have Zones, they're still not as capable as that one.

I paid a lot more for this last month. Can be fully controlled with your phone. I have it set up with speakers in living room, bathroom and kitchen using the separate zone. Very hot!

Looks like a good price even though it is ex-repair/refurbished/probably customer returns or ex-demo. 12 month guarantee from Richer Sounds.
