Just came across this whilst looking for another tv. I know this was advertised 4 days ago with someone else but that's expired now and with this you can go and collect from your local store if they have stock. No need to wait in.
Good price for a 4k Sony and cheaper than LG 49UF770v and 850V.
I know lots of people have complained about the Android OS but there are lots of people who haven't.

I understand your point about picking up but I would rather get it from John Lewis for the same price with the reassurance of the free 5 year guarantee and awesome customer service...

Yes, that is true and I agree but there are a few things to remember where the Consumer Act comes in. First you have one years manufacturers warranty guaranteed. Second you have two years EU warranty guaranteed. Thirdly under the consumer act which was recently changed in October you also have up to 6 years where you can claim if you product develops a fault where you are entitled to a repair or compensation if it cannot be repaired.
Yes it is easier to make a claim from someone like John Lewis or Richer Sounds where it comes with the guarantee but you still have protection under our own laws. Yes, you may have a little fight on your hands but all you need to do with any retailer, not manufacturer, is quote our laws and they must abide.
My son had a Samsung UE40EH5000, I think that's the right model number. Bought in January 2013. In October this year it developed a green vertical line. Common fault on this tv and others fitted with a Sharp panel. There is no repair. It is a replacement panel. He copied and pasted the correct wording of our consumer law and sent it in an email to Currys. They rang him and he had to pay £95.00 for them to collect the tv in the understanding that it was a manufacturing fault the £95.00 would be refunded. Obviously it was a manufacturing fault. They collected the tv, returned it two weeks later (I assume it is the same tv) and refunded his £95.00. Now the tv had very little use, 2,600 hours which isn't even 10% of what the manufacturers claim is the lifespan of the panel. All he did to get Currys to act was exercise his right of our laws.

Looks a nice TV, though I didn't know we had LED TV's yet at home in 2015, well apart from OLED. :man:
I have a KDL50W829 which I love, but tempted to get my £1000 back from Costco and get something else...

In the 70's we had LED watches which were replaced by LCD ones in later years. Looks like in TV's we have it in reverse lol. Same screen just lights up differently. Nice OLED LG in Currys I got my eyes on but it's not only 4k, it is 4k, well all but a fiver. £3,995.00 and my wife was actually interested. She must have a secret stash of cash somewhere.

The last part of your post sort of highlights my John Lewis point though, there is no extra hassle and outlay with them, you dont have to fight for your rights as they generally acknowledge and support them where as most retailers conveniently forget about them until strongly reminded...

My son has a degree in law.....but I do agree, you just can't beat a 5 or 6 year guarantee with your purchase. Something Currys should throw in more often as they may just generate more sales. Also I have spoken to JL Customer Services before and they seem very helpful.
I bought a new tv in January and just got a letter through the door from Currys and they only want £123.00 to insure my tv for the next 4 years. No fault, no charge and as many claims as I like but I think the parts are limited to no more than the original cost of the tv. It looked pretty good on paper and just shows you that they don't expect any tv to break in 5 years. I wonder if its because I bought a top brand tv and not something like a Seiki or similar budget brand.
I also read that Sony were offering a 5 year warranty on all their Bravia range from October 1st this year with participating retailers. Finding those retailers appears to be a bit difficult !!

Yeah I saw this link the other day, unfortunately it doesnt cover this model though.
As you point out though the grey area is there are no details on the participating retailers, maybe a quick call to the customer service number provided might bear fruit.
Maybe there are lots of them but they dont advertise it as they are too busy trying to peddle their own extended warranty policies, I'm feeling uber cynical this evening...

Got this tv from curry's last week. It's great and it runs on android.It has 11gb of internal memory. I loaded with Kodi via the play store and EZ explorer. Bottom line great value and a nice tv.

I think you got a good tv for this money compared to the offerings of LG and Samsung in the same price range. How does Kodi run on the tv.

It runs very well. With EZ explorer installed you can send files via lan from a smart phone like phoenix zip. Then you can install from the tv download folder from Kodi installer. Or from any repo directory of your choice. To be fair I am new to kodi,I used to have xmbc on my soft modded xbox years ago. It's a nice alternative to sky TV and or now tv and netflix. The crazy thing is I went ahead and bought a fire stick a week before to side load on my original 2014 smart sony bravia. I would not say the stick is redundant as I have taken the fire stick upstairs. The point is it is nicer have the option built into the tv instead of having a dongle. The stick also gets really hot too. Another plus option is that the tv has 4 hdmi ports and 3 usb ports. Great for portable or passport external hard disks. The media player is a lot nicer too. The tv also allows to pair a ps4 controller and also has built in playstation now.

Thanks for that, very informative. I am pretty new to kodi as well. Seems pretty good so far. Just can't seem to find a link for the 'first' channel that's in the 'air'. Can get the second one ok. I have been looking at paying for an IPTV service to get all of the 'satellite' channels.
I had a modded xbox years ago. I think that had xmbc too. Got it chipped and then put a big hard drive in which had loads of stuff pre-loaded on it. My son used to mod games using the software and design avatars for his friends and it was an interesting hobby for a while. It cost me about £60.00 for the drive off ebay and about £30.00 to have it chipped which I think was more than half the price of the xbox at the time but it was worth the investment from what my son picked up on the design and modding side. He went on to be a web developer which saw him through Uni and now he has a cracking job in web IT for a very large company.
On the Sony I have been looking at these for a while. I bought an LG in January and not been too happy with it. I nearly bought the KDL-50W8009C from Currys about 3 weeks back. I thought it had a far better picture than the LG and Samsung which were next to it. They were 4k tv's whilst the Sony I was looking at was only 1080 but the picture was better on the Sony. I thought the 4k Sony which I posted looked like a good spec tv for the money and quite a bit cheaper than the nearest 4k Samsung at the time.

I had an xbox. Modded flashed the 360. And PS3 was downgraded to accept a modded firmware. I ended up looking at xmbc years after the xbox chip mod. I did a soft mod using a splinter cell game save to access a modded file. Then used Linux to format an ide drive to replace the original HD drive. Still have it in the man cave with the rest of my backlog. To be fair there are tutorials and forums to pretty much anything you want to mod jailbreak or unlock. But to be fair if you like it, buy it to support the developers.

bought this tv yesterday after returning a lg 4k which I bought Sunday which had developed a fault. OK more expensive than the lg. but wow pic quality is fantastic and sound I'd say is so so. I've always had lg but found on football and fast moving things pic quality degraded. but this tv as far as I can see is 1000 times better. got kodi on it now and even that runs smoother and faster than on my fire stick. only thing I'd say let's tv down is playing games via app store slight lag
I'm going to try out the playstation bit on it once I can get a controller. does anyone know if can use replica controllers as sony ones are bit expensive for few hours gaming on tv

As the owner of 4 LG's, two current and two previous I totally agree with you. Sony have developed a tv screen that LG cannot appear to do in the same price range. On a recent visit to Currys to update my one year old LG tv I could see no benefit from any of the LG's up to £650.00 in comparison to my own tv when viewing freeview channels. This was £150.00 more than I paid for my current LG. The Sony however offered a superior picture to the LG 49UF770v which it was next to and the Samsung UE50JU6800, both the latter being 4k. When I set them all to their usb HD and UHD loops there was no difference in the 4k offered by the LG and Samsung in comparison with 1080 of the Sony standing from about six feet away. The Sony however was the clear winner for tv programmes. Just waiting for Currys to drop their price of the 809C and I am buying.

If your playing playstation now it needs to be the ps4 controller. Not sure about which controller is better for android based games.
