I have a Play 5, 3 x Play 3s, a Connect, and a Play 1
They do need a strong wifi signal for each device.
Apple Music is now available for Beta testers through the Sonos, and this makes a great combination. I use Deezer too.
Just to confirm that there is no direct Bluetooth capability.
Really good system though, great sound

Just been reading some reviews on this and some say it needs a permanent connection to the router, is this true? I mean can't you use it as a standalone speaker sending music via Bluetooth?

To my knowledge these aren't bluetooth.

No. You use your own wifi. It's not a bluetooth speaker

I'm contemplating another 2 Play:1's sound for pound and their functionality is outstanding.
I agree once you hear them pop you can't stop.

WiFi only, don't need a bridge if Ur WiFi is good. I've got the bug when I splashed out on a play 5 a few months ago. they are truly stunning

Can someone explain what makes these so special? I mean do they offer any special features over other Bluetooth speakers?

They can connect together, you can stream the same music to different places at once, the app let's you stream most popular music subscriptions etc.
It's a multiroom audio solution that is portable!

I think crucially for me at least, its the amazing clarity of sound these devices give ... simply stunning
Don't do it!!!! Once you give in..... you're screwed! I have sound bar/sub and two play threes in the living room, Play 5 in each of two bedrooms...... and play ones in the kitchen, bathroom, and en-suite. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Have a Play 1, dropped a wedge on a Playbar ... nagging voice in the back of my head insisting that I need 2 more Play 1s

I auditioned 2x Play 5's as a stereo pair, but for me thew were slightly overblown, I'm going to listen to the same thing again as V2's I'll see how that goes. I am very tempted to buy another of these on this deal just to tide me over, or may end up keeping both.

I have 4x Play:3's around the house, highly recommended them!

Bought a Play:3 from Rakuten few weeks ago, £225 but with £16 cash back and £37 in points so I'm happy.
Saw the 1 for the first time, surprised how big it was and agree a pair might sound better if you've the room but I love it. Have some heat

I grabbed the iPad Air 2 in that same deal, with Quidco and points if worked out at 36% off the standard Apple price.

I would always recommend a stereo pair if you have the room over a single unit, but for somewhere that the two units is impractical, then I think this is pretty good, and not a wholly disappointing sound.

Yeah they do hold their value. They have been this price before usually with Amazon.it or es but not for a long time. Im just thinking I might get another 2 x 1's instead.
Ha, yeah smacking you in the back of your head and emptying your wallet in the process! :stuck_out_tongue:

Been debating over this all morning as its even cheaper for me living in France . I am managing to resist. As the Play 5 2nd gen is out I wonder if the 3 will follow soon.

I'd say even if you did buy it, then you would end up holding most of the value in resale should a new model come out soon, just hang on to the box etc.
