Ordered on the Sunday 29th. Asked for Friday 11th. Heard nothing. Called up twice. Told 'big orders low stock, getting 15 a day from Sonos' and then today got an email saying its despatched.

Mine was delayed too. I called today and they are still fulfilling orders from a few days prior to mine being placed and they had a lot of orders over the black Friday weekend. Apparently arriving in 'dribs and drabs' from Sonos. As I posted on another deal, you could try Flubit and cancel this. I got a 2 speaker set from Superfi via Flubit for £269.

I'm into tech and I do love my chrome cast but sonos and other alternatives are designed and bought for the simplicity.
Not having to connect and hide multiple cable simply connect into a electrical socket and let the apps and wifi do the rest.
Currently I attach my phone/tablet to either a Bluetooth speaker or 3.5mm Jack to other speakers and I would like the option of a nice clean simple solution, sonos is on my watch list just need payday to come!

You do not have to wait for chromecast audio or anything else. Just get a few of the 'Pure Jongo A2' which is brilliant, works flawlessly and cheaper than the whole lot.
jamesgrady to Aiadi
28 Nov 15#39
Again not comparing like with like.. I think the Pure Jongo will set up a control system but you still need to have/buy separate speakers and amplifiers (with a Pure Jongo for each set) for each room. Each Sonos speaker combines all these functions.
There is a unit available if you want to stream through an existing hifi system (which I agree isn't cheap, especially if you then add a separate DAC as I have!).
Nooky to Aiadi
28 Nov 15#40
It's certainly cheap, but the reviews of the hardware and the app seem mixed.

29 Nov 15#83
Chromecast will compete with a particular device called sonos connect. This is basically a speaker with wireless connectivity , not just a streaming or a connecting device.
From Amazon.it it would be a Euro connector so would need adaptor a UK cable from sonos £5 each - so not worth it.
JakeLloyd07 to blackrat62
29 Nov 15#80

blackrat62
29 Nov 15#79
Yes, you can change the power lead BUT by the time you buy two leads (or adaptors) for the Play 1 then it works out cheaper to get them from the UK at £269 than £263 from Italy. A regular figure of 8 cable won't fit in the bottom of the play 1 and let it sit on its base. However, as I can't see such a good deal for a single play 1 from the UK then Italy is worthwhile (£133 delivered). CPC do cheap UK/EU plugs that make the eu one look like a regular UK one.
I have a play3 love it. I use it in the kitchen and it's brilliant. As everyone has said you can get BBC on tune-in and Apple Music music is coming - I will be getting some more speakers in the future, should I get a play 5 or are 2 play 1 better?

Recent email from Sonos.
Starting next month,
the Beeb is back on Sonos.
We will be delivering your favourite BBC Radio programming via HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), improving audio quality and resolving regional content restrictions.
Simply install our next software update for live streaming access to all BBC Radio news, sports, talk shows, music and all the other BBC Radio entertainment you love. With fewer gaps in local sports coverage. And the best sounding audio.
But we're not done yet. The next step is to provide access to podcasts and archived content from the BBC on Sonos. We're working with the BBC and TuneIn on that solution, and hope to share more on that next year.
We appreciate your patience and apologise for the quality and programming issues to date. We understand how important streaming BBC Radio on Sonos is, and are committed to ensuring that it remains the best possible experience.

I'm still undecided, and could do with some help. Not sure if Sonos is what I want / need.
I currently stream from my iPad and android phone, and I mainly use Spotify, Google Play Music, Iplayer Radio and Radio X apps. Does Sonos support any / all of these. I know that you can use the TuneIn app, but is there any difference in audio quality between this app and the dedicated radio apps?
From what I've read in the last week it doesn't currently support BBC IPlayer Radio app, so what certainty is there that it will. I don't want to buy into an infrastructure that is massively restricted.
What is the wifi stability of these. I plan to mount these reasonably close to my router. Does the wifi drop out occasionally, often or never?
Finally, what kind of size are the mains adapters? I assume you need to plug each speaker into the mains, so I could really do with knowing what power leads are, and how deep the plugs are.
Finally, I assume these don't take batteries for portability. Therefore if I want to use them outdoors in the summers would they still have to be mains powered?

I can recommend these and the other products in the range, we have 1 x One and the 1 x Amp plugged into speakers. Reliable, easy to setup and use, excellent build quality, great sound, nice design, phone app is reliable and intuitive etc etc. My only issue is the price, pretty muched 'fixed' deals are rare.
If you are unsure worth just trying a One, but this pack is a nice intro to a stereo setup if paired.

dcrobertshaw to LotusJas
28 Nov 15#50
Yes. If you are going to spend £800 on a surround system though I would suggest you do some research on it. I'll set you off in the right direction, unless your TV feeds 5.1 through its optical cable (most don't) you'll need a hdmi switch in-between your tv and devices.

Certainly not like for like in terms of the actual hardware but not far off in terms of functionality. Very cost effective if you already own some good hardware. I have two of the Jongos connected to bose systems and 4 other connected to other Hifi systems and speakers that I have already had. Adding £20 on top of each of the systems that I had already spent money on and would want to continue using to make them all into one fantastic multiroom system is fantastic value for money for me.
