The Sony C4 is better than the Smart Ultra 6 imho and has been of offer at various places between £100 to £120 the last 2 weeks. Keep and eye out.

Comparion between the two.

The Vodafone has alot more negative reviews across the board.

If you buy this, be aware that some phones have one or both known problems. First, gps doesn't work/ can't fix. Two, will spontaneously reboot.
Beauty of argos deal if you have these issues is ease of replacement. Pity people who bought from abroad.

I have bought this phone for my wife, she has been using it for a year now. No problem so far with either phone booting or gps not working, just make sure you have the latest firmware from the hong kong website.
It is also a very sturdy phone as my wife and daughter have dropped it many times. Suggest a buying a gel cover for protection

I haven't bought a phone from Argos in years, last time I did I had to return it after a couple of months as it was faulty, but they wouldn't swap it for same phone they had to return it and I had to wait weeks to get it back repaired, never buy another phone from them ever. They might be ok with doing an exchange now, but won't be buying from them to find out.

Great price though, my wife has the Vodafone Ultra 6, you get used to the extra 1/2 inch but I think I would prefer a 5 inch screen if it was my phone

I've had one of these since June and it's a a pretty decent phone for the money. Couple of gripes:
Internal storage is woefully inadequate. The partitioning is weird and you'll be out of space for apps very quickly. Get a micro SD card and Apps2SD ASAP.
Battery life is quite poor, and does seem to deteriorate pretty quickly as well.
The camera is awful in anything but perfect light.

9 Dec 15 3 #18
Before anyone even considers buying a Smart Ultra 6, ask yourself if having a decent camera is a must for your needs. If it is, stay away. I've had the SU6 for a few months now, the phone itself is brilliant for what I paid (only £99!) but the camera is utterly shocking, worst camera I've seen by far. To get a half decent picture you need to be somewhere with a lot of light, even then it's not a great picture. If you're somewhere with a lack of light, then just forget taking a decent picture.

I bought this phone in February this year and GPS works absolutely fine for me. With regards to random reboots, it has happened to me about 4 times in the 10 months I've had it.

I've had no problems with storage, but I don't use massive amount of apps, but I've got 1300 photos on there and about 200 MP3s and haven't run out yet.

Camera - Agreed it is poor in low light but the outside shots are really good.

Battery life - I've had no problems with this. Will happily run for a full day with a couple of hours of solid use throughout the day.

I know it's hard to compare as the XL is much bigger and costs 60% more but if budget gives, which is the better phone? Not expecting an amazing phone but would I be wasting £100 on this when I should pay a little more for a proper branded phone?

I'm pretty sure HD refers to 720, 1080 and 1440 whilst anything over that is known as UHD.

It's about time for us to use the numbers only instead of "HD" and "UHD" anyway - given that the plaque attached to Alexandra Palace says "The world's first regular high definition television service was inaugurated here by the BBC November 1936" :stuck_out_tongue:
Azureus
9 Dec 15 2 #36
These are descriptive terms used for marketing only the industry talks about vertical resolution. "Full HD" is marketing speak for 1080p, "HD" is 720p, and 4k resolution is called "UHD". Ignore the labels and just use the resolution number as your guide for comparison.

Can anyone explain how these dual sim phones operate? Can the two sims be used concurrently? For example I have two phones with two sims, one with unlimited data and the other with unlimited calls. Would I be able to set one up as a master sim and still be able to make and receive calls on the other at the same time?

Once sims inserted you can choose which sim is default for calls/txt/data, or set to ask and choose what you need and when.

Yes. Both SIMs are active to make and receive calls. Not all dual SIM phones (that should be not MANY really) support data on both. But given your case you'd be fine with virtually any dual SIM phone.

Went for the WileyFox as i thought it was dual sim Active so i could use 3 sim for calls/texts and EE for 4G. Can't find anything on their website stating it is active but read it on one of the Amazon comments it was.
Looking again now seen a few which state SIM is only standby which is the same as this.

Should i send them back and get this instead as it has better specs?
I MAY get £25 cashback from Nationwide as i tried to cancel, Amazon said it was dispatched but then got cancelled, so they sent another dispatch out at £0 after i had signed up to Nationwide... if the payment date it when the 2nd order at £0 was dispatched i will qualify for the £25 cashback. Lots of messing around, basically didn't deliver the phones.
Yesterday sent them out again value at £0, if the original order goes through as yesterdays date, i will get the cashback, if the original order date, which was cancelled, it was before i signed up to Nationwide rewards. So i wont get £25 off.

It is still android underneath, but this is ZTEs skin that makes this 'look' like and feel like an iPhone in performance. To be honest, I have to agree what some others have stated. If you MUST have the dual sim and slightly smaller screen then OK, this is an option. But for the tiny extra, the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 is a much better handset. If not for the full HD, then hands down for the battery. I almost bought one of these about 4 months ago after seriously looking into it. The fact that it's an IPhone 6 lookalike didn't bother me, I quite liked the look of it, but long story short, after spending hours and hours looking into it, the battery on the Vodafone in comparison tests practically doubles the use out of the phone. Don't let the numbers full you of the battery, the Vodafone really does give you so much extra in battery. I get 2 and half days from mine from 100% to almost empty with on average 3 hours screen time a day. This handset in comparison would give you a day and half. That full extra day from the Smart Ultra 6 surpasses the extra sim from this. That's just my two pennies worth though. Each to there own.

EDIT: Plus to add, whilst it's not Marshmallow, the Smart Ultra 6 has just been updated over the air to 5.1.1, received my update today. That's direct from Vodafone even though I'm running it on Tesco Mobile. I don't believe ZTE have done an update for this model.

Same here, these 5 inch phones are too large really... but the SU6 is a monster.

10 Dec 15 #123
I have an Elephone P8000, which works well as a secondary device. Their firmware development team leaves a lot to be desired, e.g. each new ROM comes with a new Launcher (some have come with Adware in the past!), new firmwares improve some areas and regress others etc. Flashing new firmwares on OSes beyond Windows 7 is also tricky too unless you are quite technical.

Personally I am happy with the P8000, but mostly because it is my secondary device & I am a software engineer, so use it as a play thing. Not sure I would recommend it for a non-technical person for use as their main device.

The Blade S6 is a decent enough device - 720p at 5" is fine & the other specs are also excellent for the money.

I would personally buy the SU6 as it's firmware is pretty much stock and controlled by Vodafone which won't allow any nonsense.

However, if 5.5" is too large & Dual SIM is useful to you (e.g. to put a PAYG 3 SIM in when you go abroad on holiday for cheap calls & data) then this is a decent device.

Thanks for the info, I am looking at the pro version which is a nice size, the specs look good and few people have mentioned it on here.

10 Dec 15 #127
would this be a good starter phone?
P_K
10 Dec 15 2 #128
absolutely not!

I don't think their branded goods are as good quality as others available in the west - they will have all / most of the functionality of other better known brands but not the reliability, but in the end you get what you pay for - check for yourself - find 2 similar & competing products (one established market leading brand and one chinese branded equivalent), check the public reviews of both or just read some of the comments within this thread

when one expresses a subjective opinion why does someone else suggest you are trolling

Yes, I just got the Lollipop V5.1.1 update on my Voda SU6 yesterday. It is a large phone but it suits an old codger like me and the screen size is good for in car navigation. Won't suit everyone though, bit big for the pocket.

Great budget phone. Had mine for over a year. I play some games and its copes well but gets a little hot. Apart from that video, casting and everything else I've thrown at it has worked fine.
Bargain and not as big as others. 'Plasticy' and obviously doesn't feel like a premium phone but for £99 quid I'd recommend it. I had a Moto G Gen 1 before and this does blitz it performance wise. Not in video though. Battery life on general use lasts over a day but the minute you start heavily gaming it drains the battery and you will need to charge it.
Camera is also pretty decent, not outstanding but great for the kids and holidays.
However that all said I can renew my phone yearly on a 12 month contract which gives you bargaining power with the providers and have a phone that performs well.
I will never go back using a premium phone.

My experience matches RedTheRebel's. I wanted an inexpensive phone to replace my unreliable Galaxy S1. After much research I went for an HUKD deal for the SU6 (Voda £99 (plus £2.50 unlock). So far no regrets whatsoever. I can't comment on the camera - haven't used it.

As a phone and for email, web, music, reading pdfs, it has been perfect - as is the clarity of the HD display. If the size is not a deal breaker I'd thoroughly recommend paying the extra for the SU6.

This is not like other Chinese phones. This one is actually quite good and very usable. Did have some glitches initially, but latest firmware is very stable. A reasonably quick phone which is up to most tasks even gaming. My myself and two friends have one and we're all very happy. A few things... the screen is not gorilla glass or anything; it can break quite easily. I recommend getting a toughened screen protector off ebay asap. The screen itself is really good. Very bright and crisp. You cant tell it's only 720 not full HD. 'Next the hardware is much better than the software. Although the base Android is stable, some of the onboard apps are a bit crap and unstable. Would say ditch them and replace with google standard apps. THis includes the hopmescreen for definite. The experience is so much better when using stock apps. Otherwise, everything else is brilliant. Looks good too, but close up and in your hand, you can tell it's cut corners. It is really light though. This would be a good phone at 199 quid.

Well, that's what I think, anyway.

11 Dec 15 1 #152
so, I express a personal opinion about the quality of manufactured goods based on both personal experience and public reviews of said manufactured goods - and you ask if I "troll much". When I reply in a courteous and polite manner you call my position "stupid and lame". So who is the troll here?

Everyone will agree that manufactured goods the world over can be both good and bad quality regardless of where the manufacturer originates from - I just tried to say in my experience the general quality level of branded manufactured goods is higher from some sources than others. I won't even go into ISO certifications and other internationally recognized quality standards as I have the feeling you would not be interested (it is not an interesting subject) or understand any points I would try to make.

Anyway, take it easy - I meant no offence to anyone

Sorry guys sharing my own fresh experience.

By seeing this offer, price, spec etc I decided yesterday to have this mobile for my wife and reserved this with Argos for collection today.

It was our fortunate that due to some reasons we decided to view it first before buying actually.

Omg....It was plastic phone, just like kids item, some thing was not quite right...I can't explain in words... it was just not ok look wise may be due to the fact that my expectation was very high or something... we decided not to buy this as it did not even look like proper mobile... just not proper.

It's my personal experience and should not be treated as any offensive feedback please.

I have owned this phone for 5 months and I'm very impressed.

Pros:
- Capacitive buttons on the bezel, saving screen space
- Dual sim
- Seperate microsd card slot (doesn't use sim slot)
- Battery lasts 36hrs, 48 with care
- Despite what others say I think it looks premium, regularly mistaken for iPhone etc.
- Bug free once updated to the latest software
- 4G that works on O2

Cons:
- Speaker could be louder, speakerphone is quiet
- No NFC
- No fingerprint sensor

Tips:
- Remove ZTE camera app and install Google camera app
- Disable/Uninstall all the ZTE bloat
- Update to the latest software (v B15)
- Install Google launcher or your favourite 3rd party launcher
- GPS is fast to get a lock, so long as you have mobile data on. Mobile data doesn't need to be on for GPS to work, just the initial lock.
