I also contacted Customer Services and if its any help to anyone they confirmed that this is Fully Synthetic. I also checked with them if it was suitable for my Lexus IS200 and they stated that 5w 40 not this 5w 30 was the correct grade for my car.
I have always used 5w 30 in my Lexus since I have had it 11years ago and it has now done 85,000+ miles and the car runs as sweet as a nut (does not require any top up oil between services) and has just passed its MOT emission tests with flying colours yesterday so I will keep on using/putting 5w 30 in it.
I think the reason that they state 5w 40 is the correct grade now (was 5w 30 when it was new) is that as the car is 12 years old and a slighty thicker engine oil at engine running temperature (the grade 40) would help if the cars internals were worn due to high mileages ( based on 12,000 average yearly mileage my car should now show 132,000 on the mileometer) and as a consequence the combination of a thinner oil and worn internals would mean it would tend to burn oil and need topping up regularly........so putting thicker grade 40 oil in it would tend to stop this happening.

Goto the site and on the left type in your reg or car details and it tells you what oils you can use  Merry Christmas
I think you know what he was saying and it's not rocket science is it, trade or not, as long as one can read, but sites like Halfords and ECP that check on Reg are not always correct, according to them our car needs Fully Synthetic when it doesn't, so if you have no experience whatsoever then you just think you are buying the right oil when you might not be, maybe if the 'Trade' was more honest instead of just trying to sell the most expensive, it would stop all the errors but obviously it won't stop the human error....no common sense.

For the the C1 they used 5w40 in the original, the same in facelift2 and moved to 5w30 for the third of the old model. The new one uses 0w20 in the Toyota engined 1.0 and 5w30 in the PSA 1.2 unit.
But if you look in the handbook it will pretty much accept anything!

I own a Hyundai car which takes 3.5 litres of oil for an oil change, Hyundai’s 5 year warranty is so complicated that you have to go to a Hyundai dealership to meet warranty requirements.
Arnold Clark Hyundai, service charge is £42 for the oil for my car which is this Shell helix, I can buy another brand of oil with exactly the same specification for £15 for 5 litres and I can supply my own oil for the service saving well over £25.
As the main dealerships are buying oil in 50 Gallon drums I wonder what their profit margin is on the oil ???

Why does the different 'subtypes' of oil make it so confusing, I have a 09 Citroen C1 petrol, the 'lubematch' website says I need the Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40, but searching the Toyota Aygo which is exactly the same car and engine says I need Shell Helix Ultra Professional AG 5W-30 (specifically the "AG" version) because the car has a Japanese/Toyota engine I'm tempted to say the Toyota oil would be correct and that the 'lubematch' website is classifying the oil on location/brand than actually matching the oil with the car and engine?
Or in the grand scheme is the difference not likely to matter?

I'm in the trade so work off of manufacturers specs rather than makes. What has driving a Fiesta got to do with it. Loads of engine failures on Ford 1.0l Ecoboost engines with wrong oil and they're no McLarens. It's also a get of jail card for dealers as they automatically test oil on failures. Some of them will even void the warranty on braking systems when they see copper grease.

How am I talking ****? The specs given are definitely semi. It's Euro that are wrong with both sets of spec. The current Ford spec is D and it should be A5/B5. By the way this is really for Fords as it has the opposite film strength that most cars require.

Yes it seems Eurocarparts have the wrong description listed. You are correct in what you are saying (sort of). Technically fully synthetic would massively surpass A1, B1 and API SJ, but you could label it as surpassing those. Not that anybody ever would.
Shell's Helix ultra range has always been fully synthetic (entire range). Just the new ones are gas derived rather than crude derived. The easy way to tell the new ones is look for "Shell PurePlus Technology" on the front rather than "active cleansing technology"

It's definitely semi going by the specs. Not having a dig at the post, but concerned that people could put the wrong oil in their cars. Fully in Ford would be C or D.
