I'm not sure either - I have had a pair of Sennheiser MM30i earphones for over a year now & they have been solid performers. I paid around £25.00 for them at the time, so if these MM55i earphones are similar in sound quality then £9.99 is a great price.

I've got a pair of these and the quality is good for the price. But if you want even better, you don't mind paying £3 more and waiting 4 weeks for delivery id recommend these! A friend of mine said they were on a par with his £80 headphones!

These, I believe, are the assymetrical sort whereby I use them with the longer lead placed around the back of my neck. That’s good, I don’t like the ones with equal lengths — there’s nowhere to leave them dangling when I have to take them out. And yes, I like to leave mine dangling when I take them out — who wouldn’t?

A person after my own heart! I thought Sennehiser had stopped making asymmetric earbuds, so that is very good news. Might have to get a pair as a spare.
I am never confident of buying Sennheiser from eBay - are these thought to be genuine? SCRUB THAT - JUST NOTICED IT IS ARGOS AT EBAY.

Nobody is forcing you to buy them. I have been using earbuds like these for at least 12 years, and MM50i for over 5 years, so it is hardly a fad.

Sadly I cant see Argos shipping these, has to be a pricing error but just in case i have piled in. Fingers crossed. The only 'phones you are going to get from Sennheiser from a tenner are normally the horrible plastic jobs, these will have been a lot more originally.

Mine’s arrived. I’ve not taken them out of the box yet — it’s a replacement for my Xperia Z headphones which are on their last legs (insulation snap in the rear cable, pushbutton housing resoldered and held back together with a tightly bound twist-tie!). They still work, but when the day comes I’ll wheel this new set in. I’ll also be using it on my iPad.
The difference between iPhone and Android connections is potentially confusing. Here’s what I understand to be the case today:
Originally, Android/Nokia phones and iPhones used different pinouts for the 4 conductor 3.5mm jack. The unstoppable domination of Apple’s superiority, or something like that, caused the Android/Nokia standard to cave in and adopt the iPhone’s connection arrangement. Hence, earlier Android phones with 3.5mm jacks such as my wife’s old X10 and my old Arc S will use the old ‘Android’ pinout yet newer Android phones such as my Xperia Z will use the newer ‘iPhone’ pinout.
My experiments and research lead me to believe that the lead is connected thus:
iPhone/iPad (AHJ / CTIA standard) 3.5mm jack pinout:
a 3.5mm 4-conductor iPad plug: ⎮⊐∎⊐∎⊐∎⊃
☞ sleeve ;☞ ring; ☞ ring ; ☞ tip
in the above order:
☞ mic ; ☞ earth ; ☞ right ; ☞ left
mic impedance 1K6, headset button shorts mic to earth
Whereas the old ‘Android/Nokia’ (ie, on earlier Android phones) (OMTP standard) pinout is:
a 3.5mm 4-conductor iPad plug: ⎮⊐∎⊐∎⊐∎⊃
☞ sleeve ;☞ ring; ☞ ring ; ☞ tip
in the above order:
☞ earth ; ☞ mic ; ☞ right ; ☞ left
I believe the recent / current Nokias have jack connection and impedance sensing, so that they may switch between AHJ/CTIA and OMTP.

Mine arrived today and I've tested them briefly. Initial impression is that they're good but not quite as good as other Sennheisers I've had. In particular, the cable is a little shorter and noticeably thinner. The plug is thin and straight rather than L-shaped, which I prefer.
On my Nexus (Android 6) phone, the play/pause/skip function works but not the volume control. As expected, the buttons work correctly with my iPod Touch. I haven't tried using the microphone on either.
Based on this, I'd say they're a great buy for the money but be willing to accept the buttons not all working if you don't have an Apple device.

They'll still be fine as basic earphones. Just don't expect all the buttons to work.

Depends. On an older Android device, it might sound feint and odd because the earth connection is not connected, and the only earth return it can find is the one that goes through the mic first. The older Androids expect the sleeve to be the earth, the modern CTIA arrangement puts the earth on the ring nearest the sleeve, and uses the sleeve for the mic.

Of course, if you end up with the situation whereby the headphones sound feint because the connection is incorrect, you can always get an adaptor for a tiny amount of money from ebay or amazon. For eg ASIN: B00MV7XDRW or similar may well work well, or something like it if you can find it cheaper. All it does is swap the connections of the sleeve and ring nearest the sleeve.
