Reserved three last week. Went to pickup today and they were like its 19.99£ each. And then I said when I reserved they were £9.99. Asked me for an email while I was looking she checked her system and said its ok she over rided then when i used my Argos energy card (given by SSE my gas energy supplier ) as had like 18£ worth of points so got first card free second one for £2 and then third one the normal £9.99. So happy with that.

'Thanks for posting op! Can anyone advise if these can be used in hudl 2? It says hudl 2 is expandable to 48gb so not sure if this will work? Thanks'

Yes it does work, am typing using one now, though the card is a different make. The limit quoted is to do with Microsoft licensing arrangements, the manufacture has to pay more money if they quote a higher capacity and has nothing to do with what the kit will actually take.

10 mins is pretty good for Argos! I waited half an hour to discover they couldn't find it. To their credit, they did nab one from a nearby store and deliver it to me the same day. Got here just before 10pm. Will pay online in future for the fast track pickup.

Got one of these and spent ages copying loads of music albums onto it. Got constant errors every few minutes and had to dismount and remount it, then allow Windows to check it out before proceeding. Took me a whole evening to finally get stuff copied to it.
Then I found out my car media system only supports up to 32GB anyway!

You seem to have a bad card or bad format, it shouldn't take that long to full this card up, plus those errors are not normal for a brand be card.

Maybe try re-formating the card and it maybe also work in your media device, just try it to be sure.

Hope this helps

No problem picking up the SD card today - I pre-paid with Paypal, took a printout of the order codes in with me (could have shown the codes via the text they'd sent me instead), walk straight past the lines of people waiting to pay/get their items to the Fast Track desk, they typed in my codes, got the item and gave it to me with nothing else to do after that.

I was in and out of the store in under 1 minute - most impressive and a heck of a lot better than the pre-Fast Track days (I hadn't been to Argos in ages, so this was my first Fast Track). Yes, the SD card worked fine, so a very good experience overall.

TY, would always fire onto a non-os drive just incase they also got anything suspicious on the drive you recovering!
I tested ZA out of interest one day taking my pics off cams sd card, formatted card, then ran ZA and it actually covered not only what was previously on it but pics from a format or 2 ago! that impressed and scared me lol.

10 Dec 15 #411
time scale is same as slow format as it reads each byte copies over then moves on regardless, usually i set up to do over night think the last on i setup was a 500gb 2.5 seagate from a portable hardrive that had been droped
took around 8 hours on an el-crapo hp 2.4ghz single threaded p4 with a gig or two of ram running win7pro32
only main advice is always a seperate drive to recover onto pref not even os thats running program and crack the cases on portables and externals as sata anything trumps usb maybe not now so much as usb3 but im always using el-crapos when recovering as they get rinsed all night, and day and cost me zip when i mash the ports etc on the boards

dazzadirect to Luvmyboys
10 Dec 15 #407
no such thing as a silly question, yes can be used for anything inc video cameras etc, so are formated certain ways or contain extra software often referred to as bloatware , best practice is to format the card when new in the device it is intended for, (usually nowadays not always required)
DO remember any format wipes ALL data so only do when empty or when you have nothing to loose

so , i suppose with a camera there will only usually be a couple folders so would be ok
not too sure about android stuff as i seem to have atleast 8 main folders
my bad i see you mean image mode , ie just supporting photo file types, interesting
roadkill is cool for complete harddrive recovery , as it will not get stuck on bad sectors and faulty drives
have recovered many TBs data for mates failing and failed drives
even a few seagate click of death , and one that sounded like a hooveri will download ZA and keep it on my toolkit pen , cheers

My wife just been over to Argos to pick up a couple of the bargain HC cards I ordered yesterday at £9.99 each. Got the reservation email with £19.98 on it etc. She's just arrived back with 2 microSDXC cards and a bill for £39.99... I call customer services (who are repeatedly very sorry but cant do anything about it), they put me through to the store where I speak to someone who tells me I did get what I ordered and they've now gone up so that's the price you pay unless you tell them at the till it was cheaper when you ordered it (even though the reservation has the right price on it!). I tactfully point out that the reservation is correct and she tells me "Ah yeah, but we don't look at the reservation we look at the internet/till price and that's what you pay unless you tell us!". I ask her to repeat what she just said and listen to herself to see if she think she sounds demented too, and tactfully point out that it's actually not my problem and she should refund the difference. The sound of cogs spinning prompts me to ask to speak to the manager and then find that she IS the manager!

After a lot of "lighthearted banter" she tells me that I can take this to any Argos store and they will refund the difference if I show them the reservation. End result is that I should get better than I ordered at the price I ordered which seems like a bargain if you discount the time wasted on the phone, my wife's time wasted driving back for the refund and petrol, + the 6 months I've lost from my life chatting to "customer service robots" who don't understand that Argos's systems seem to have been built by the same dipsticks who run security for TalkTalk.

if you need check out post #390 they are correct, so you can refer them to their terms if they are not moving
know you may not want to hear but if they want to be silly they may refund you and void your reservation
but most staff seem to be ok , also you dont always need a manager , some staff can do it and often they are nicer/frendlier, you must be annoyed though esp as x2, may the HUKD force be with you

4.3b) If you reserve a product and the price changes (due to normal fluctuations e.g. goods going into or coming out of promotion) before you collect the item, you may request to pay the lowest of i) the price on reservation or ii) the prevailing price in store at the time of collection. This will also apply if your reservation is extended but not if the reservation collection window has expired.

Proof of reservation would include: -

Reservation Number
Print out from the internet
Text message/email showing reservation number
For FastTrack orders where payment is made at the time of ordering for in store collection, the price you pay is the price specified at the point of placing the order and not the prevailing price in store at the time of collection. If on collection it is the case that the item has come down in price since the FastTrack order was placed, we will be happy to refund the purchase price and re- sell the item at the lower price. If the price has gone up from when the order was placed, it remains valid unless there has been a price error (see 4.3 (a))

you could try recovery applications but very hit and miss. I don't recall the ones I used but there are some free ones.

I learned the hard way, many many moons ago when flash drives were new, not to rely on them. Always always make backups of your data, twice if you can or rely on cloud storage (if you are fine with the privacy issues).

This deal is still on at the Argos website and some stores do have it in stock, so expiring it is simply wrong. I just ordered the last one online from the Liverpool One shopping centre at around 11.00pm on 9th Dec, but as people have said, stores will be restocking soon. The only real question is when does the offer actually expire for real? Will be getting a Raspberry Pi 2 for Xmas, so this card should be ideal for it.

IMO those who are writing off Sandisk just because they have had one card that does not work are making a mistake. Many devices out there are fussy when it comes to memory cards, so it may not be the fault of the card.

I picked up my card today and tried it in my Olympus LS 14 PCM recorder. It didn't work, so I swapped it with the card in my dashcam and it worked fine, whilst my dashcam is happy to work with the new 64gb Sandisk even though it's only supposed to be compatible with SDHC/32gb cards. Of course my dashcam only uses 32gb, but in the future when I upgrade my dashcam or buy another gadget that uses memory cards I'll have a usable 64gb card waiting for it.

Also it's worth remembering that Sandisk sells a huge amount of memory cards, and most people who are happy with them don't feel the need to post on the interweb and let others know about it, whilst those few who have problems are more likely to let others know.

As I mentioned before, I've used Sandisk products for many years now, and have yet to have one break or not be of any use at all to me, but YMMV.... getting the right memory card for a particular device can be a crap shoot, but that does not change the fact that this card at this price is still a great deal.

PS. My local Argos said they were currently sold out, but expecting more in next Monday

what happens is that it will first freeze and stop anything being deleted or added than it will die

The reason being that I had a Transcend card fail when doing an update to gopro ...it was a one off glitch in download but it bricked the card.

I got in touch with Transcend even though it was 18 months old and they stood by their lifetime guarantee and replaced it quickly and professionally...will continue to buy Transcend stuff but was tempted by the price and speed of this.

Hopefully it will prove reliable fingers crossed ...it says 10 year guarantee on the packaging so hopefully sandisk will be as nice as transcend if it does go wrong

Put in my Lenovo Yga 10 HD and it's not recognised, same problem as with sandisk 32gb. while no such problem with kingston. Won't buy a sandisk product again. Even for my dashcam had to replace sandisk with Transcend. Hope you guys don't experience similar problems..

When you say "3 times", was that 3 different cards? If so, were they all from the same batch bought at the same time, and did you buy from a well known/reputable vendor?

I only ask because I've heard that there have been some bad batches, but there are also lots of fakes about.

Thanks to OP I went and got one of these tonight ( I too don't know why this is expired it still shows in stock... I got one reserved and collected from my local branch 4 hours ago)
Have just tested on my good spec gaming PC in a USB3 card reader in a USB 3 slot and got better than advertised read speeds (91 read 23 write)

Note: when testing in my 6 year old laptop speeds were much slow (30mb/s read) showing that a low spec'd PC can be a bottleneck

Can't see how to attach a pic from my PC to this post ...would have shown screen grab

I have been stung a couple of times getting fake SD cards from dodgy sites so it's reassuring to get this genuine one as expected from argos.

I usually stick to Transcend cards as have had great service from them but couldn't resist this at the price...may even get another

Ordered one last night to collect from my local Argos. On my way to the store this morning, the manager phoned to say they had "lost" the item for my order but they would provide an equivalent. I thought, great, I'll get some cheap brand instead but no, they took a £30 hit and gave me the Extreme one instead. Bargain!

Anyone seeing out of stock might want to check either tonight after closing or in the morning, by then some reservations from Tuesday might have cleared (same goes for tomorrow).

Happened to me with something I bought last week.

It means that it's coming in on a regular delivery where they're expecting stock.

However, I'd suggest waiting for a text/email or calling before collecting it because there is no guarantee (first hand experience).

My point being though its only applicable to that one phone? The MicroSD card works perfectly fine in other devices (the article even admits it) so personally id point the finger at the phone (or phone firmware) being at fault. Fair play to Sandisk for taking action to remedy the issue though...

9 Dec 15 #327
Which is my point. You're just repeating stuff that you don't understand.
The chart is nonsense.
SDXC is no different to SDHC physically. The difference is software (file system different format which is a purely software thing, FAT32/FATX and can be changed by end user at will) and capacity, which is dictated by the hardware device firmware in terms of what type of addressing it is using.

The chart is highly misleading and not factually correct, regardless of if the standards maker released it.
superivanho
9 Dec 15 #326
in fact this is not the only acticle mentioned the problem. if you google "samsung s3 sandisk card" you'll find a lot of websites reporting this issue.

I was a victim among all. Sandisk card failed in just a week of use on my S3. Put other cards in, they all worked fine.

Even Sandisk allows me to return the faulty card straightaway to their warehouse. Sandisk clearly knew about the issue.

possibly. Some gopros only take 32gb. But with the 4 of hope it takes 64gb.

Gopro are quite specific on what cards they recommend as it writes a lot of data quickly to the card.

It's not on their recommended list I think (just search go pro SD card recommendation on Google it'll be near the top) so it'll be hit and miss whether it will work and then continue to work as you use it more.

This is a good deal but Sandisk SD cards for me have not been reliable. The last one I bought suddenly stopped working after a few months in that I could not save anything to it or even delete anything from it, or format it etc. Sandisk were good about it and offered to repair/replace it but wanted me to send the card back which I wasn't prepared to do due to the sensitive stuff I had put onto it.
So buy it since it's a good deal but don't put anything too important on it (or at least, regularly copy the stuff from it to a PC or external HD) as it could fail sooner than you think!

Yes, it's not one of the newer/more resilient cards, but the thread I linked to discusses cards like the one we are discussing here, which is why I posted the link.

I would have to disagree that the warranty issue is irrelevant here since there are people here buying them for dashcams (or at least contemplating it) so I see no harm in pointing that out as a possible issue.

Also, the chances that a particular card would decide to die at exactly the same time that you are involved in an incident are extremely low. I've been using dashcams for over 5 years now with various cards (including Sandisk cards) and have not had a single issue, although admittedly I don't drive every day as part of a job. Even if you do, the chances that you get caught out would be minimal providing that after each day's use you check that the card is still working properly.

I think that my main point, that the overheating is only going to be an issue in hot countries, is valid for the most part and still stands. Granted, if you are doing a lot of driving(or planning to use it in a hot climate), then this card may not be for you, but I think for most people on here who don't fall into those categories, this card is still worth getting for a dashcam.

This isn't one of those cards though and the warranty is a bit irrelevant as it will be little consolation to get a replacement for a £10 card after you get scammed by a **** in an accident you didn't record because the poxy card locked up and corrupted.

Got my info from dashcamtalk and also Sandisk's own forum, I'd put one in my phone but decided it's just not worth the potential consequences in the dashcam.

Not so sure it's quite that clear cut. We don't get as hot as some places, so it's probably not that much of an issue here in the UK. BTW - Sandisk does not honor warranties when their regular cards (like this one) are used in dashcams, but there is a way around it.... don't tell them and cut your old card in half before you send it back!

traylee to sandrag10
8 Dec 15 #166
This card is class 10 and it should work fine, but probably best to check if your dashcam supports SDXC, although I suspect it may well work even if it does not. I've been using a 64GB SDXC in an old DLSR (that is only supposed to support SDHC but not SDXC), and it works fine, although I can only use 32GB out of the 64GB that are supposed to be available.

(The SD Association is a global ecosystem of companies setting industry-leading memory card standards that simplify the use and extend the life of consumer electronics, including mobile phones, for millions of people every day.The Association does not manufacture, market or sell any product; it exists to create standards and then promote the adoption, advancement and use of SD standards used by competing product manufacturers that make interoperable memory cards and devices. )

Chart is nonsense.
It all comes down to capacity and obviously physical form factor.
There's nothing "different" about an SDXC vs SDHC card except it comes formatted with a different file system as standard from the shop.

Just bought one of these to use in a dashcam and it needs to be formatted to fat32, as people have mentioned.

I did try using the supplied adapter and the programme (mini partition wizard- can't do it with Windows formatting if over 32Gb) said the card was damaged. It appears that there is something wrong with the supplied adapter, so I suggest people check theirs with a different one before potentially returning (yes, I did check the lock!).

To avoid confusion. SDH and SDXC reference size not speed.
SDHC is up to 32gb
SDXC is 32gb and up

Admittedly SDXC are usually the fastest because the tech is newer and more advanced. But the HC and XC relate specifically to the storage size not speed.

This is definately Micro SD XCand Argos have that listed incorrectly.

What's even more amazing is the mark-up on the different models of tablets, depending on what native extra memory capacity you want onboard.

Apple are the biggest offenders here, charging hundreds more for a "top" spec 128gb iPad, when all the logic boards are manufactured with the memory slots already there as standard and populating those banks literally costs them under a fiver for the extra chips.

They should have some regulatory authority throwing the book at them for gouging consumers.

Hot deal anyways.
stuartsdog
8 Dec 15 #154
Can these be used in GoPros?
MrPuddington
8 Dec 15 #153
No, that is not amazing. iDevices are always seamless, and SD cards are not. eMMC gives a much better experience, and it also gives Apple an opportunity to overcharge the customer - so it is a win-win situation :-)

But the deal is amazing. Order 5 plus a filler item, and you get a 5 pound voucher, too. The only strange thing is the SDHC label, when this should be an SDXC card.

8 Dec 15 #145
In theory they are just as reliable BUT the others can have a few sector failures and happily continue, Sandisk will more likely have a catastrophic failure if/when it happens. Nothing to do with poor quality, they work differently to the other brands.

As an analogy, planes have far fewer accidents than cars but a car can have a minor bump, knock it out and carry on.

Like the above it may never happen and you'll certainly be better off with one of these than a lot out there.

Yes SanDisk is one of the largest manufacturers of flash memory, so even if their products were the best you would still see a lot of negative comments about them as generally people don't post to say "everything's great, just thought I'd let everyone know".

Personally I've bought a lot of USB and SD/microSD flash cards and never had a problem with the major brands like Samsung, SanDisk, Kingston. But as mentioned in another post you do need to be careful where you buy from as there are a lot of counterfeit parts on sale.

Don't know if it's connected but I'd read Sandisk ones are no good in dashcams particularly because of the way they handle sectors that die, one goes and the whole card becomes read only rather than it just marking it not to be used and carrying on like other cards.

Yeah I had issues with 2 sandisc microSD cards, one of them was actually the 32GB version of this card (both bought from credible retailers so not some lame ebay fake)
When I contacted them they wanted me to send it all the way too the chech republic (no UK returns address) at a cost of about £8 which made the RMA pretty economically pointless.
I won't touch sandisc stuff now, the lack of a UK returns address makes their lifetime/extended warranties an expensive and somewhat disingenuous selling point. I buy Kingston & Samsung memory now, no issues :-)

I wonder how many more SanDisks are sold than other brands? They appear to be ubiquitous.
It's like my local council tip telling me they'll see my Dyson back in a couple of weeks when I disposed of the box it came in - "We get loads of them."....Hmm. Why could that be then?

I'd suggest this guy maybe had other issues - either the device he was putting it in or how he was reading/writing data to it. Who knows...I've had loads of SDcards and they've been fine.

I was using this card in my D3300 with HQ Jpeg and Raw settings. You can easily fire off 3 shots but it will slow down whilst it writes to the card. If it is greater than 32GB it’ll have to be SDXC, not HC (which can only be as capacious as 32GB and no more). Implicitly, this also, er, implies, that the filesystem will also have to be exFAT. It’s not necessarily the case that a device that predates SDXC can use one if formatted as FAT (or any other filesystem formatting that can give greater than 32GB contiguous space). The pinout differs in terms of voltage, also (as in, it goes lower for UHC bus operation, and the device it is in might not be able to do that).

The golden rule is, read your fair king manual* — if it says SDXC, then it can. If it says micro size, it can take the micro size without the adaptor, otherwise, use the adaptor to bring it up to size.

*or the manual for whatever device you’re intending to use. Really, they’re not boring (well, yes they are often) and they’re not confusing (hmm, no, they’re often highly obtuse) but I can guarantee that each time I’ve read bits of the manual for something I own, I’ve come out of the experience knowing some tiny thing more, raising my appreciation of my tool.

I'm gonna get one of these but I do admit that Sandisk cards have a problem, basically the card tries to be smart and if it notices any kind of error it locks down into read only mode permanently.Unfortunately this also corrupts the file system so you end up with a card that can't be formatted or written to ever again and also can't be read properly. It just becomes junk.

title should be changed to SDXC instead of SDHC.

Argos advertise it as SDHC so OP probs won't change it.

I went to school with Russel Hobbs, he was chubby, whats he got to do with this?
flamesong to Gollywood
8 Dec 15 #61
Are you implying that Russell Hobbs invented the electric kettle or something? Because if you are, you would be wrong.

I presume, though, that you are suggesting that the company who actually developed the SD card are somehow a cheap and cheerful brand. MFY.

my guess would be the write speed on these wont be massively high and thats the issue with go pro use.

check their site / forums for whether anyone has used these.

just ordered 3 as i've got 2 x raspberry pi zeros and a windows mini laptop to fill

Good find!!

They show it being SDHC on the site with an SDXC picture. Tut Tut Argoose.

I think this is not a sdxc.. Looks like sdhc from the image...Open the link and read the description in Argos website and it says up to 30mb/s speed.. Definitely not SDXC

Helpful answer.

As long as your camera supports Standard SD, this will work fine. some devices say they can only support up to (for example 32GB) but most of the time that's just because it was biggest card available when it was made. ignore the above comment.
