My other half has just come home from work with another Christmas tree because it was 1p.
Every tree no matter what size was scanning as 1p!
Not sure if nationwide but could help a few people out if they are late buying a tree.

Sheesh, I appreciate I'm talking to the wrong crowd here, but could there ever be a more prudent example of how broken capitalism is as a system?
Trees grown for 10-15 years to be cut down and sold for 1p. Bloody awful, companies should be fined for this sort of behaviour. Financial profits at the expense of all else in its path. All for a bigger number on a sheet somewhere.

I went to B&Q today and bought a 1p Christmas tree. The assistant asked me, "Will you be putting that up yourself?"
I replied, "No, you saddo. I'll be putting it up in my living room."

Which will mostly all end up at council tip in garden waste and shredded down for compost...where as all the broken, no longer wanted plastic trees will end up in landfill as they are mixed material and won't be recyclable.
Christmas trees sold by large retail come from sustainable tree farming...more are planted each year than cut down....
If anyone should be fined it's council's that actually collect them with household waste. As long as the trees are responsibly recycled there is no harm in having a real tree

They were £2 last night in Chelmsford. Had quite a few but they were being snapped up. Just a shame the smaller potted trees were not so cheap.
remember these trees do not have roots so you'll need a bucket & soil/bucket decoration. I asked yesterday how much their tree stands were..... £17 ...... gulp!

Just pad £20 for my short range xmas tree. When you live in London these deals sell out before they even make it to 1p. The guy who actually sold me the tree said he bought 500 from B&Q last year and made a killing

They're pot grown, so not cut down, and are carbon negative (they absorb co2).
The real villains are the supermarkets that dump millions of tons of perfectly edible food because e.g. the carrots are too wonky, or the coca-cola bottle label is the wrong shade of grey.

Not at all true!
The majority of trees were sold for full price, those which have not been (and there are only 3 at my local B&Q) need to be cleared so the company doesn't have to pay for the disposal costs of the left over perishable stock.
If this was part of the wholly discredited and mismanaged public sector, there would be thousands left all at full price, and they would then pick up the tab for disposal !
All trees end up going to disposal anyway, this way at least someone gets some enjoyment from them !

You've got to be joking...Are you annoyed because a tree is cut down in it's prime (a very 'Pheobe from Friends' like view!). The tree is fulfilling it's life destiny!
Plus, it's better people get enjoyment from them. Be happy it's a good deal, is it better if it's £200?
Strange, strange people on this site

This comment is so funny, complaining about capitalism whilst browsing a site for people who love to consume
The irony of so many likes as well
The reason they are being sold for a penny is because it will be cheaper to give them away than dispose of them, makes perfect sense to me.

I don't see your point, if they are sold for 1p the public sector (ie the council) picks up the tab for disposal (when they are taken to recycling centres) rather than B&Q incurring the costs and that's a good thing? For B&Q yes, but not for council tax payers. Unless they are chipped and used to heat buildings as mentioned in another post.

Aside from the various chemicals used in growing them (I'm assuming), the nylon netting they use to "package" them and the associated emissions from logging & transport equipment.
It's still far greener (sorry) to have a real tree than a fake one on a single year basis but bear in mind most people will have an artificial tree for years if not decades.
Personally I'm more offended by cheap nasty electronics being churned out that doesn't work well/properly (really cheap tablets for example) where the planets resources are being flushed down the loo on stuff that's terrible.
Not to mention the rapes, decapitations, forced labour etc in places like the Congo to mine rare earth minerals by Warlords & used in smartphones etc.
Also far worse than Christmas trees is the amount of Pumpkins grown, carved then binned when it's a food item & we have people starving & most of an edible food ends up in the bin.
Oh also the house of Commons bins so much food every day that tax payers have paid for which could also be feeding homeless londoners
