The blockbuster event of the year, Prometheus, comes crashing onto Special Edition Blu-Ray 3D, Blu-Ray and DVD!
Returning to the genre he helped define, Sir Ridley Scott has crafted the most unforgettable experience of 2012 in Prometheus. This gripping, thought-provoking and often terrifying masterpiece features a stellar ensemble cast including Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green and Idris Elba and is a must-have for any self-respecting film fan.
After scientists Elizabeth Shaw (Rapace - The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and Charlie Holloway (Marshall-Green - Devil) discover mysterious cave drawings that point to the origins of mankind, they soon find themselves aboard the spaceship Prometheus, sponsored by Weyland Industries and on a journey to uncover the secrets of humanity. Overseen by the imperious Meredith Vickers (Theron - Snow White and the Huntsma), looked after by the android David (Fassbender - X-Men: First Class), and backed up by a team of scientists Shaw and Holloway arrive on the isolated moon LV-223 to discover an abandoned alien spaceship and the truth... that not all is as it seems...

Some of the best special features available on any DVD or blu ray I have. Definitely worth checking out, plus the blu ray picture quality is outstanding.

I really like this movie despite its many flaws and the frustrating manner in which it tries to give the impression it is way smarter than it actually is. I'm tempted to buy it again just for the extras. Everybody should head over to youtube and check out the "Prometheus Honest trailer" however, even as a fan it is a laugh and hard to disagree with.

So much potential in this film but I can only describe it as a damp squib

Let's face it, anything after the first two is bad.

This isn't an Alien movie however, I think that assumption is the reason many people didn't enjoy or accept this movie for what it is. As for Alien, I realise it is cool to hate, but Alien 3 is actually a pretty decent movie imo, the directors cut especially. In many ways it is a better Alien film than the second as it better captures the feeling of the first with one unstoppable creature in confined environments. As much as I do like Aliens.

Yes, that's fair - although they did rather bring it upon themselves by hyping up the Alien connection in the marketing.
I actually agree on Alien3 - I maybe wouldn't go so far as to say it's better than Aliens, but I do like it quite a bit (the director's cut is the only version I watch now).

I have all the Alien and Predator movies now (in steelbook too, i know I'm sad) and out of the Alien movies Alien 3 is my favourite. I saw it at the cinema and it was really atmospheric.
Everyone says Aliens is the best but thats really just a gung ho Alien slaughter film, fun but a bit shallow.
I already have this and its superb in 3D - a better experience than 2D.
Hot!

Yeah, true - it's the James Cameron action-movie version of the Alien concept.
What I really liked about the Alien films was that each movie had a real stamp of the director on it - it was a great showcase for how different filmmakers can approach a common idea and each do something different with it.
It would be great to see a future Alien film be given to another visionary filmmaker who could do their own thing with it.

2 Dec 15#15
Erm, think it is an Alien movie. As the sequel is named in the Alien genre. And it was ****.
But Prometheus wasn't, and neither was the sequel up until a week ago, they appear to have given in to the complaints about it not actually being an Alien film, which is a shame as I like that they were doing something different within that rich franchise. I hope he stickjs to his guns a bit and reveals more about Human origins and the Engineers etc..

2 Dec 15#17
I agree the marketing wasn't the best, although some of the trailers were quite cool even if they did promise Alien sirens that weren't in the movie. And I didn't say Alien 3 was better than Aliens, they are both good and very different, I said it's a better Alien movie which I believe it is. Aliens was gun ho macho sci fi movie and the xenos were more like cannon fodder than the beautiful, vicious and near unstoppable creatures they were in 1&3.

Yes, Prometheus is definitely set in the same universe, obviously. But I think the marketing for the movie led people to expect a story that was more directly connected to the original Alien movie(s), rather than the separate-but-linked story that Prometheus was telling.

I imagine some people do, yes. I used to watch all the extras on my DVDs and BRs, but I don't have time for it any more. I try to make time for a decent documentary or making-of though, and deleted scenes are always interesting.

I don't know, I thought Ridley Scott made quite a valid case that there was a genuine artistic reason to return to the world of the Alien movies, and it didn't seem like the cynical cash-grab that a lot of people made it out to b....
