Please tell me is my Polaroid tv made by LG .

Yes I know some Sony tv's have android and also Youview. There have been many bad reports but there are literally 100's of others who appear to have no problems at all. I personally think that Sony has the best picture quality when comparing to LG and Samsung and would take a gamble. That is easy for me to say as I have a Youview recorder and amazon tv box !!

has it built in wifi?

I doubt if it will have any decent apps to talk about. They are all taken by Samsung. You be better off getting an Amazon fire stick or other streaming box. My LG is a smart tv. It's only a year old. The smart side of it is rubbish. very little apps and its slow. I just got the amazon fire tv at £64.00 it knocks the socks off anything that is smart about smart tv's. The tv manufacturers would be better off installing fire tv or similar inside their tv instead of the crap they give us now.

Think Sony have an Android-based smart TV interface, which whilst sounding sensible considering the ongoing interest in general Android development, there have been a number of major issues with it.

I think we are all agreed that this tv would be ok for a second room as you say but the moaners, including myself, are merely referring to it's use as a primary tv. The point being it's ok for a bedroom, needs to be a big bedroom!!, attic room, games rom etc but for a main tv then perhaps the money would be better spent on something else. That's no different to putting a £750.00 LG or Sammy in your lounge and a £300.00 LG or Sammy in your bedroom. I bought a 32" Bush LCD from Makro years ago for my son. It is that old it doesn't even have freeview on it and it still won't die !!

I bought one of these for my attic room den. I was not expecting much for the price but could not justify spending anymore for a TV that was only going to be used occasionally. Frankly the moaners are just that. Sure you can get better but for more money paid they are far from rubbish. I have been very pleasantly surprised.

I purchased this TV from Asda the last time they said a promotion for £285. I've had no problems with it at all! The only con about this is that I can't plug my MacBook into it. Apart from that, it's a good purchase!

Was a panel lottery back then too lol. I have another LG with the Chi Mei panel according to the product code. I guess LG could change this year by year if they wanted to. Its not a bad panel to be honest. IPS looking at the pixels, quite a nice clear screen although let down slightly by motion flow on fast panning. My AU panel however is extremely good at fast moving shots. Formula 1 is nice to watch however it has issues on slow panning, like it twitches now and then. Very nice picture on HD channels and dvd.

Personally I don't like cost cutting measures where electronics are concerned. Didn't samsung do that putting cheaper capacitors in some of their sets and then had to put right all the ones that failed. Estimated cost according to the forums was about $1 per set!! I believe it is better to pay a little more to get something of a better quality and that will last longer. If the big names start cost cutting too much, affecting reliability, then we may just as well go and buy the cheap tv's anyway. After all we can still use our consumer laws to gain some compensation after year 1 and the more claims that people make should tell the manufacturers that cost cutting measures are perhaps not in the company's best interests as most people would pay the extra £5, £10, £20 etc to buy the brand they prefer. There is always a base point that a manufacturer cannot go beyond unless of course they get a smaller company to make the product for them and just put their name on it.

My knowledge is stagnent as of 2005 when they closed
There were 4 major panel manufacturers then, AU Optronics, Chi Mei, Fujitsu and LG Philips (Lenevo first came onto the market then).
AU Optronics quality was considered quite high and the ones you had to careful are the LG Philips B grade panels they employed for cost cutting measures :disappointed:

Sure, you can good and bad with everything but my point is newer, better tech is usually available within 5 years so why bother paying loads for a TV that you may replace within that time. This will be a perfectly good usable big screen TV for 'most' people - it may not be 'quite' as good as a Pana/Sony/tosh etc that is twice the price but will still do a great job.

That Pana CRT we had was a lovely TV but had no end of problems with dry solder joints and then 2 of the colour guns packed up, not what I would expect of a TV costing £1000 (£1700 in todays money!) A super cheap Hitachi 32 inch CRT we bought in 03 when skystore were selling up to replace it is still going strong too

That is an interesting post.....maybe I got a Friday afternoon LG but it doesn't appear to be as good on SD programmes as my previous LG. HD is fine but there isn't much of that about on Freeview. My LG should have had an LG IPS screen as described but has a VA panel by AU Optronics. I guess LG makes mistakes on their website too.

disagree.....had a very expensive Panasonic TV myself that only lasted 7 years. Admittedly an older CRT Pro Logic set but it was £1000 in 1996 and had been repaired twice before failing completely and a neighbours £800 Panasonic LCD packed up within 2 weeks.

However the £400 Hitachi 42 LCD I bought in July 2009 is still going and we currently have an ex display 46inch Technika that cost me £20 (yes, £20) in Jan 2014 that is working perfectly. The sound quality is rubbish but the picture is great. I will never spend loads on what is essentially throw away technology.

I used to work at the LG factory years back.
We used to OEM Sony TVs and all they did was to come out and stick their labels and a high price tag!
Brand does not always depict quality :smirk:

Interesting point that you mention it being ok for a second tv. I can't argue with that but I think the debate was heading that this would be ok for a prime tv which in my opinion I would pass on it. I hate to settle for second best and did that when I bought my 50" LG in January as the primary tv in the living room when the tv I really wanted was a 50" Sony. It was £200.00 and couldn't justify the extra expense at the time. I am regretting my decision now though as I don't rate my mid-range LG very highly. The Sony at the time was the W829 and 2 months later Currys ending up selling them off at just £40.00 more than I paid for the LG. Sometimes it pays to wait.

Your neighbours £800.00 Panasonic wouldn't have happened to be a 55" 4k 400B by any chance would it....

Had this TV for a while. It's worked very very well and tbh there's not much difference with the Sony that I have. Slight difference in picture quality other than that it's priced fantastically for those who are looking for a second tv

94 degrees in 6 hours or so says it all I guess. My point is not to buy the brand. If you can't afford a 50" LG or Samsung then buy a smaller tv. Buy cheap, buy it twice. You get what you pay for in electronics and after being bitten once by a none branded tv I will not be bitten again.

£275.00 you could put towards a decent brand name tv even possibly with a lengthy guarantee.

I bought one of these from ASDA last year at £289. I'm aware what people are saying about Polaroid TVs but I've had no problems. With my ancient eyes it appears every bit as good as TVs costing loads more.
