Used mine several times now and like it - they have their pro's and con's though.
Really only any use to single people for everyday use then you could just fit a meal in it, otherwise for a family you can cook chips/baked potato's, but have to let them go cold whilst you cook the chicken/sausages etc, as these fryers are very small.
To give you some idea of size - 6 chicken thighs stood up on end are ok - you won't fit a whole chicken in one though (unless very small)
Chips - 3 or 4 portions depending on how much you eat.
Cakes - 1 quite small cake, or 5 cupcakes
You get the picture.....
I love using it, but find we still have to use the oven anyway, and yes it is less fatty but that is the only real advantage, the cook times they state are very ambitious too - the jacket potato's I did x3 took 45 minutes before cooked right through rather than the 28mins they state, they must be quoted on very small spud's is all I can say.
Cheaper to run than an oven, but you will need to use the oven as well if cooking a meal for more than 1 person, either that or buy 2!

I find that using the pan supplied is good enough for grilling, a proprietary baking tray to fit the supplied frying pan for baking is OK just don't expect to use pans that you would use in an ordinary oven as this is not a substitute for normal kitchen appliances it is a replacement for a deep fryer that can do other jobs, so perhaps not for you.

Openin old thread here..... Need to ask a question before I break my one:
How do you turn it off, before the dialler "dings"???
I turn it all the way to one minute, and let it run until it dings, but I'm worried what'll happen if I force it beyond that, does it manually ding like a microwave or will it break??
Just turn the dial all the way to off, I do it all the time, no problems after over 2 years use.

For those asking about chips - home made are nice, but more of a cross between baked/fried/oven
McCain home fries done in these are the best chips we have ever had anywhere - very crispy and light and fluffy in the middle (just make sure to shake them a few times)
I tend to slightly over cook them as I like them really crunchy - you simply won't get them that crunchy in the oven, they just over cook and dry out/burn.
I am liking it more and more - but still the size is the major drawback for us.

If you like chips just get this if you can at this price - its a fantastic piece of equipment that will get used and not sit in a cupboard. Try chipping carrots and sweet potatoes - yummy!!!!. (One carrot and one sweet potato in together cooked in about 12 to 15 mins) I prefer this to the tefal actifry as you can adjust the temperature to suit and when the timer stops it does actually switch off compared to the actifry just dings then keeps on cooking. Just buy it if you can find one.

I agree with you I have had one for over 3 years and it is great for a single person. I do sausages', nuggets, fingers etc. at the same time, but you can't do pie and chips together as you need to shake the chips at intervals during cooking time. I do beef etc. in halogen oven though as the Phillips is to small but works on same principle and put my roasties in with the beef. I find both these items brilliant for single people and used intelligently are all we need for cooking. Keeping both items clean are easy and use so much less electric than an oven or deep fat fryer.

I've had this one, the Russell Hobbs version and the actifry one - this is by far the best, the actifry is too big, burns things on the top, and mushed softer foods with its paddle. The Russell Hobbs one is too small and doesn't cook things that well.
I've had this version for 2 years, it's does pizza, toasted sandwiches/wraps, sausage rolls, chips, sausages, bacon, pies, spring rolls, onion rings, fish/fish fingers, filo prawns, burgers. Much quicker than the oven. It's not one of those things that gets tried once and thrown in the cupboard - it's used in my house most days - it's safe and easy for my teenager to make something, the timer is handy - if you get distracted it switches itself off unlike and oven, and the build up of heat keeps things warm for 10/20 minutes until opened. Be careful putting it in the dishwasher too much as the non stick coating wears off the inside, if it's not too dirty and quick wipe with kitchen roll would do.

I tend to find that the other food is a touch greasier when i do it this way, it seems the grease of the meat gets blown onto the chips, though it gives them a nice taste.
