It's a good deal - but if you are genuinely in the market for true 4K then you'd need to look for a TV that supports HDR because that's the format that will shine through all the others.

Not seen this TV IRL but what's great about it is its not spannered by android or apps.... better to connect your boxes to it.

Exactly its pretty important to know. There was a cheap (£229) TV from AO listed earlier that's not 2.2 so for 4k content you are pretty much stuck with the inbuilt Netflix or use it as a computer monitor.

Catch is that it's outside of the nice core specs it's very barebones.

No smart TV functionality outside of the USB media player, no 3D and it probably has very little in the way of picture processing.

Hope people did their analysis before going with 4K UHD as this is NOT a smart TV.. The frequency/HDMI connectivity/USB speed all matters if the smart device is external !

I think they are trying to just brush it the carpet, when googling about you just read sets from 2015 should have hdcp 2.2. It's not good enough, customers should be told straight away, in fact the sets without should be pulled or discounted heavily with the customer being told about its shortfalls.

I think I want a smart TV, one that records to HD via USB port and has dual tuners. I can't find out whether this has the last 2 but it's definitely not smart. Still a great price, I'd like to see some reviews of screen quality though before buying.

If the receiver is not then you will have to cable the device directly to the TV and send the audio over optical. Some 4k bluray players will have twin HDMI output with video and audio over one and audio only over its sister port (Sony I think). This only affects 4k content mind.

Seems a pretty good deal, good point is the optical audio out is multi-channel unlike my panasonic that is only stereo. Shame it doesn't have iPlayer etc but then again NowTV boxes are so cheap.

Might buy one and keep it in the box until someone can confirm if it is possible for it to start up with HDMI as a default source instead of the freeview tuner. My panasonic TV is really annoying, every time it is switched on it goes to the free view tuner and I have to press the AV button on the remote to select one of the HDMI inputs. Gets kind of tiring as I have no need for the freeview.

I was in the same boat. bought 65 Hisense yesterday for 999 quid from amazon and added 5yrs warranty from square trade. if Hisesne own extended warranty is cheaper i will cancel square trade.

Smart is awful. I had a smart toshiba and it lagged. Manufacturers drop support after a year or so.

High Input lag is an issue even in Single player, it's not as important as it is for online games but most games it will be an issue. I've tried playing games on TV's with high Input lag and given up within a few minutes. Shame really this looked like a good deal but the input lag makes it unsuitable for my needs.

got a single 970, so likely unable to run modern stuff at 4k, but it should look good at 1080p and on older games I should be able to crank it up. Back in 2004 Philips had sold their monitor business to the same company. Thats not to say the brand in now bad. Its just not been made by philips for almost 5 years.

I was quite curious about this TV myself for gaming purposes so I asked a conversational Russian speaker to interpret the gaming part of that russian review. He does not seem to express any concern about lag, states that he did have to adjust brightness quite a bit as it was a horror game he was playing, and overall is quite enthusiastic about the TV considering the rpice point.

No, 60hz refresh on an LCD is terrible when any movement takes place. 100-120hz is acceptable, but still looks average compared to a good 1980's CRT (in terms of movement). If you seriously can't tell the difference between a 60hz and 120hz telly then you must have vision problems.

Soon AMOLED will be good enough to fix the refresh problems and we can all forget that LCDs ever existed.

Which is nice.

Oh, and the UK is still 50Hz, all programmes are recorded in 50Hz (or 24 for films) and broadcast in 50Hz (25 interlaced for 24p sources).

So tempted by the 55 inch, think it's still a good deal compared to the other sizes..

I would not buy this TV for any reason. If it's 4K at this price then corners have been cut. For me the following are needed for a good TV:

1080p (or higher)
100 or 120 hz refresh (ignore 200hz+ TVs)
LED backlight
Gaming mode
USB function (mainly being able to play movies from USB sticks / hard drives)

Those are the basics.

With "Response time 6 milliseconds" this wouldbe slow for gaming?

Input lag - my current TV is a 9 year 40" 1080i Samsung, so performance should be better on this TV?
Most 4K TV's I have seen are smart so come with the Netflix app, but this is not, what device would I need to get Netflix 4k?
I have seen some of the cheaper 4k LG TV's have a white pixel so it is not "True\Full" 4k, is this TV the same?

I'm not a hardcore gamer but I cannot notice any input lag or motion blur

I turned all picture enhancement off and enabled game mode.

Bought mine this morning, put it in the car, then I walked into Tesco and saw the digihome 49" for £199 again and thought to myself that it was a stupid decision to buy a 4K TV when I wouldn't even watch any 4K content. Plus the cheapo digihome has VGA, this doesn't. I know this would kill it in terms of picture quality but im not that fussy tbh so back to argos I went :P.

The reason I got 4k is to future proof I generally change my tv every 6 years

Mine came with a wifi dongle, in the manual it states that you should be able to access it via the network tab in the menu but there is no network tab from what I can see so it essentially does nothing. Other than that, the picture quality is good as long as you set the ultra HD to on in the settings, if it's not on the picture seems quite fuzzy. Once I played about with the settings, the picture quality seems great, no lag. I don't use it for gaming though so can't comment on that.

For the price yes. It's lightweight, and once you've put all the enhancements on its actually quite a nice crystal clear image. You can also update the software via USB which was really simple. I have a minix box which works great with the TV.

Hm, my initial tests have been inconclusive. It has three modes: TV, Gaming, PC. Only PC mode gives you a picture without overscan, and it comes with much fewer settings (no sharpening control, although sharpening is still happening). With an HDMI 1 graphics card, I was not able to select any resolution higher than 1080p. All menues are also in 1080p, so my feeling is that a 4k would bypass a lot of the electronics.

Input lag on the desktop was very barely noticeable, so it is ok for me, but maybe not for gaming. And 4k may be a different story.

Next I need to get a graphics card with HDMI 2.0...

Just got mine set up, I seem to have a very bad banding issue with mine also know as "Dirty Screen Effect" With all the football today you notice it instantly.

I will leave it till Monday, before I contact Phillips on this issue or get it replaced by argos. (Could anyone check their TVs with this issue please, as it varies from panel to panel)

Bought a 49 inch earlier, worked nicely at first, then I made the mistake of turning it off, firstly it wouldn't find a signal from any of the hdmi slots, then it wouldn't even respond to the remote. I'm taking it back tomorrow for another but after some reading this doesn't appear to be an isolated incident :-(

I have the 49" model since today, works great but I'm not picking up any HD channels (channels 101-107) I did the software update to the latest version. I only had a SD receiver before so can't compare, could it just be bad signal?

I bought this yesterday, before reading anything on here. Home and set up (myself, massive achievement for a technophobe!) The picture quality is awesome, the HD channels came on automatically too, no update needed. Used some of the 'extras' i.e. BBC iplayer and had no problems.
I have just discovered that you can also record and pause live tv with the addition of an external hard drive, so HUKD friends...any recommendations for a decent hard drive??
Should add that I also bought an HD freeview recorder/blueray player yesterday but am thinking this may be surplus to requirements and all I need is the hard drive??

Bought the 55". Plugged it in, it made a loud bang noise and is completely dead. I don't think I'll be getting a replacement.

Like I wrote before. It is good tv for gaming. Ps4 works very good, no lag no problems.


Warning: It seems this TV (49inch) is very picky when it comes to hdmi cables. Budget hdmi cables or to long ones just don't work. Get yourself good quality and short HDMI cables or you will have problems with no hdmi signal.


Everything else works fine and for 399 quid I got myself budget but nice 4k tv. HOT.

Any recommendation for 4k blu-ray player?

After having the 43" version for a couple of days there's a few niggles for me. The quality is great on HD channels but I find that SD give a weird pixelated image around people's faces or particularly in lighter pictures. It also goes a bit doolally with my DVD player, and now and again the picture goes blank and then comes back again (something my previous 5 year old Samsung never did) I'm taking it back tomorrow, swapping it for the LG 4K Tv knocked down to £399 at Argos. I saw the image quality at tesco today and it was much better than this TV. Each to their own though, my partner seems to think the picture quality is great even though it pixelates in SD.

Can you wall-mount this?

I'm having the same problem. Insert the dongle and nothing happens, currently putting the new software on and hopefully that might sort it but I feel like I have a dud dongle.

I haven't bothered with the dongle I can't see a need for it as have sky box and ps3 hooked up via lan cable

Have started to set up my 55" one and have something to say that will be important to some people. With the TV mounted on its legs on a stand it is still shorter than my sonos playbar. When sat on a chair it's not too bad, in fact I can see the full screen, but the remote control sensor is below the middle bottom of the unit. I'm aiming the remote in the general direction of the space between the two stumpy legs of the playbar and it is working OK. It is worth knowing that with the legs on the dimension from the stand to the bottom of the image on the display is 66mm for anyone with a soundbar on the top of their stand.

Why is the nvidia shield so good for ' a 4K experience' compared to other android tv boxes? Is it that it's native menus are 4K or os there something much more compelling?

I think for most people is its a full retail product so everything works and its also very fast and smooth due to its 8 CPU cores (4 fast A57 and 4 slower A53) and a big Maxwell based GPU. It's a bit like Ferrari vs Ford. They will both get you from A to B but the Ferrari will be faster and more fun to use. :smiley:

After updating scan again, HD channels start at 101. The channels that use the dongle start much further along the channel list. I tried one, the first and probably only time I ever will. It worked but I've got quicker ways to view motors TV, it buffers before it streams and isn't like simply changing a channel.

LG 43UF640V is the one I'm exchanging for.

With freeview HD I've got an animated film on and the image on the TV is compelling. Should be even better with a 1080p source and can't wait to try 4k.

Ok, here are some more conclusions. It works with a PC, but it does not support [email protected] in RGB, the mode you really want to use. So you either get [email protected] in RGB, or [email protected] with 420 colour subsampling. For a PC, neither one is good. For videos, pictures and gaming it should be fine.

Pity only 2 HDMI ports.

What GPU are you using?

It's nice to know but since the colour calibration on a TV is likely to be way off the I can't see many people photo/video editing to any semi pro/enthusiasts level on this anyway.
4:2:0 is not a deal breaker for me.

I've just got the 43", first impressions are that it has a great picture out the box, this is watching bolt on bbc hd via a sky HD box, it's a vast improvement over my previous 32" LG.
A quick question for anyone else who's bought this though, it has a USB extension lead with it and mentions connecting a wireless USB adaptor....but no sign of it in the box, did anyone else's come with this and should mine have done so?

It's the only streaming box I'm aware of with HDMI 2.0 and 4K support at full 60Hz.

I think you mean HDR for photo editing - that would be nice, but unlikely at this price point. 8bit RGB is just the standard computer format, and without it, text looks a bit fuzzy and weirdly coloured. So I would say this is a deal breaker for desktop use.

An maybe it is going to be an issue at that size. I replicated it on my 27" 1440p monitor as best I could and while not quite as crisp was more than usable but its a big leap up to 43".

I can't see anybody using this as a long term monitor though and if you did need to use it infrequently as a monitor for excel or word you could just drop it down to 30Hz.

As long as you use 1080p or 2160p30, everything is fine. It only struggles with 2160p60. And even then for occasional use or at a distance it is fine, only up close it is a bit annoying.

I decided based on the link you gave, not to exchange for that model. But I did exchange for the LG UF770V instead, and I'm really impressed. Functionality and it's smart features have been enough to impress from the start, picture quality is amazing if not better than the Philips 43". I haven't tested 4K images just yet, but so far I'm happy I exchanged it. The remote control is a magic remote so can control all my other sources too which is a bonus. I found the Philips to be a little bit more effort to set up, and the dongle on the TV I exchanged was sadly interfering with my speaker system, so I think that was some kind of earthing problem. Have no issues on this LG model.

I got 43" as I don't have the space for a bigger TV. Price is £579 at Argos but you can get it at currys for £549. I stuck with Argos purely so I could just do a straight exchange.

got my 49" yesterday, performed the update and it was fine.
Switched it on this afternoon and all freeview HD channels 101+ have gone. Performing full channel reinstall and the progress bar is crawling slower than a chubby child on fumes

Okay so I got the 43" version this evening. I'm not sure what the best settings are but after an hour or so of testing, the standard channels look much worse than my old 37" Sony KDL-37EX403 but the HD channels look as good if not better. Any tips on which settings I should use to get the best out of standard channels?
The sound is also quite tinny (even after trying multiple setting configs) and if I decide to keep it, I will definitely be getting a sound bar.
If I can't improve the standard definition channels ill probably take it back and exchange for something else as my parents will be using it 90% of the time and most of the stuff they watch is on SD channels.

Any recommendations for a good sound bar (at least 2.1) for around £50-£60 ?

55" is superb in my opinion. Free view HD reminds me of the old sky HD I had, very satisfying. Received an nvidia shield TV today, will set it up and briefly comment on it tomorrow. I have tried an amazon fire stick already, a movie was reasonably OK but sports (2nd or 3rd hand stream) was very bright. I need to know how to personalise the "personal" colour options.

The TV isn't bad for the price but if picture quality is what you want then I would throw in a bit more and get an lg 850v which will give you true 4k @60 and 3D. Nicer in every way in specs and in person.

Well yes but a £100 box vs a £500+ pc is not exactly a fair comparison. Especially considering people are buying £300-£500 TVs.

So I've had the tv for a couple of days now, started out with the 43" and the misses decided it was too small (story of my life) so went and got the 49" instead.

Updated the software easily and then was able to connect the dongle and sign into the wifi which gave no benefits.

Sound is ok, not brilliant. Fiddled with the settings which helped but when wanting to turn the volume up it doesn't really make it much louder just lowers the sound quality, at normal volumes it's perfectly adequate. I've got a trust sound bar so when watching movies or playing games I'll switch that on.

Pictures is fairly good with sky hd which of course is in 720p, one of our sofas is only about 4 foot away and it still looks fine. Of course on blu ray it looks brilliant. After fiddling with the settings I've found the picture looks the best when you adjust the setting to look natural, as if you was looking through your eyes. A lot of contrast/brightness and sharpness seems to make it very over saturated so if you like a tv screen that's similar to your iPhone or ips screened phone then this tv probably isn't for you.

Not tried the screen with any games yet but I have turned all of the gimmicks off and have not had any problems with watching sport, it also has its own gaming and pc settings so im sure it will cope fine for the casual gamer.

Overall I'd say it's very good value for money and is a worthy successor to our old 42" Lg, you can't really expect much more for the price you are paying and i'm happy with it but if some higher priced good screens drastically drop into its price range I may take it back and replace it just to see if the grass is greener on the other side.

Settings vary by each set, your settings on someone elses TV could look terrible. No two components are ever exactly the same and on producing 1000's of TVs across the line there becomes a huge difference between them all. Believe it or not no TV is the same, it is not possible to copy settings from someone else and achieve the same picture.

I advice anyone wanting to achieve a better picture to buy Spears and Munsil or Disney WOW and set the TV with your eyes how you want to watch it. Or check in the set up of one of your Pixar Blu rays and follow their THX slides. Better than nothing.

You could do, but it's cheaper to buy the Argos TV & Amazon Fire 4k box which will be much faster.

I picked up a 43" one today. A friend works there so I got it for £269.

It came with two USB wifi adaptors, not sure why as I didn't think it was a smart TV.

I'll be using it mostly for Xbox one in my man cave. I'm struggling to find decent settings for it so far.

It seems ok for the money but it's a cheap set for a reason. The image quality isn't close to my LG which wasn't much more.

Argos have refunded my delivery charge and issued a £10 voucher for the missed delivery.

I agree but some users wanted some picture setting advise. These settings fare well in my opinion - I've used similar for my Samsung 32" and watching the Return of the Jedi Blu-ray, the PQ is rather impressive.

Bought this today, fiddly to get the right settings and find myself changing between Vivid and Movie quite a lot. But overall I'm pretty impressed, upgraded from a 1080p 3D 32 inch TV and this is a pretty decent upgrade.

That's the issue, I can't update the software without using the USB to connect the TV to the internet. The instructions aren't very clear.

Anyone experienced issues with text burn in the screen? I was reading the steps on how to update the TV on the menu for about 5-10 minutes max and when I clicked off I noticed a shadow of the text was visible. It seems to be temporary but if this is an occurring problem then I'll be worried.

Thanks everyone. How did you figure it out? I've got it to work now. Quite confusing though it says it's succeeded on connecting to the internet regardless of not entering a security key. When I go through Network Settings unsurprisingly it says "Not connected".

Anyone with a Virgin TiVo box managed to set the TiVo remote to change the TV volume? I had it set up on my old TV but can't seem to get it to work with this one. I followed the guide on the VM website but no joy.

It is to enable some extra free view channels that are streamed. This is the same for all free view HD receivers. The extra channels aren't really worth bothering about though.

Quick observation: whilst watching digital channels over last few days have noticed a few times the TV display went blank with no sound for a second and then picture and sound return. Not sure if this only happens only on hd channels, need to test more...

Mine has been used heavily over the past few days and I've not experience that issue.

The dongle that came with the TV is basically it's wifi antenna, you don't use this for anything until the software update is complete. You need a totally separate empty USB flash storage drive to download the update file on to from the Phillips website using a computer. Then unzip that file and make sure that the update itself is saved in the root folder of the flash drive eg. the one called F:// or similar (winzip will put in in a folder so you may have to cut/paste it back to the root). Then plug the flash drive into the TV, turn it on and follow the instructions. Then the TV should know how to use the wifi dongle.
Protip: once updated the setup screen should have a network settings box, you have to go to the icon above this to actually connect to the wifi network.

Im finding this TV is getting better with time, I have fine tuned my settings, 4K content from my Fire TV is literally insane (Granted I haven't experienced picture quality from very expensive TV's) but for this price it feels like a steal, it's got a nice design too, moving from a tv with thick borders this is very nice. Not sure on sound as I use my own separate speaker system. But on the whole impressed with the picture quality and 3 HDMI ports is a nice little bonus too, gaming has been fine too.

Just arranged delivery to return the 49". HD channels weren't an issue but SD channels were horrendous. Plugged my nearly ten year old LG TV back in and the SD channels are so much clearer. It's a shame as it looks a brilliant deal but I guess you get what you pay for. Going to have a shop around and spend a bit more to get a better picture.

just rang Philips helpline.They said the signal might not be strong enough.To be fair the status says poor.So I will turn my booster on and bypass my humax box to see if the problem stops.

Have reserved the 43" to collect later but unsure after reading all these comments. Will just be using it to watch normal tv through sky and fire stick so not too worried about 4K. Would I just be better getting an lg or Samsung for same money?

I am contemplating to give this TV a shot for daily use as a programmer.
My question is whether the TV holds up to its promise of: "Computer inputs on all HDMI @60 Hz: up to 4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160".
Can anyone who owns it and tested it properly confirm this? And how is the general color appearance on desktop? Any caveats to this?

(By properly tested I mean someone who has used the right equipment: HDMI 2.0 capable GPU and cable)

Regarding the screen going black, we're getting this too. I applied the update on day 1 so not sure if it was happening prior to this.
My signal strength is Good (88) and the Quality is 100 on BBC One HD.

May take it back on that basis.

One other thing, has anyone found any way of renaming the Sources. My old Sony Bravia allowed me to add a short description to each source (e.g. WII, PS3, NOWTV etc)
Another peeve is the TV guide. Audio cuts out whilst viewing the guide.

Had the 43" and it was fine, took it back because the misses said it was too small, got that 49 inch and we have had no bother with it.

We have had the screen go black but only when it has been inactive for a whlie, id imagine it is sleep mode.

It's a good screen after adjusting the settings, no frills but what do you expect for the price.

Yes it's no frills, but I've said it before and said it again, Smart TVs are a marketing gimmick. There are loads of devices out there that will do the job better, for less money, and will retain support from manufacturers a lot longer.

Chromecast, Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV/ Stick the list goes on and on.

I have found for gaming sharpness set at 0 gives it to fuzzy a look. Have turned sharpness up to 8 and seems better all round, especially on SD broadcasts.

Ty, so another useless 4k tv, surely cannot expect a good response for games.

I got the 43inch version yesterday and am mostly very pleased with it. I thought the SD channels looked fine, and the HD movies are awesome.

I experienced the 1 second screen blanking issue on ps3, though I unplugged my Chromecast and it hasn't happened since but I'll keep an eye on it (it is quite annoying!)

the biggest down side currently is some slight shadowing in the top two corners. has anyone else experienced that? I'm not sure if its annoying enough to try and replace it (though could be there on the replacement)

Your Blu-rays are 4:2:0. Virtually every piece of video online is 4:2:0. Freeview and satellite transmissions are 4:2:0. Future media will be better, but right now, you can't really expect more from a £300 TV, surely.

No idea about gaming latency, but if you're outputting 4K directly, lag should be lower and people on here seem to be happy about PS4, which will be upscaled from 1080p (meaning extra lag).

Outer edges of the stand are width: 59cm, depth: 21cm, so you'll need a stand at least that big.

Another tip I've found is when choosing format go for unscaled and not auto, picture quality seems a lot better when doing this.

Just got the 43inch, picture quality is good, sound is good, connectivity easy only took a few minutes to set up. Overall seems like a good purchase.

My understanding is that this tv is a total failure if we compare it against a normal 1080p tv and some very good 4k tv out there. The lady does not realize that by upgrading her old tv surely very old (usually plasmas without any sharpness at all and badly faded) she is mislead herself as she could have spent less and better on a normal 1080p tv instead. It is obvious that it must be a good upgrade but only against the one she had possibly.

1080p videos and 4K videos are stunning on this TV. For this price, am happy with mine. :sunglasses:

I have had this TV now for over a week and I'm loving it. Very 'bare bones' in terms of features, but that's great for me if it keeps the price relatively low.

I agree! The picture quality is very good. I prefer strategy of having a simple 4k screen with lots of connectivity & not a smart tv with bundled poor apps etc so I only need to upgrade my plug in boxes ( chrome cast, nowtv, kindle fire ) and not my whole tv.

A bit much hassle to deal with the telly, I end up bought LG 43UF640V which is the cheapest around the market. Very good quality of picture, very easy to setup, update itself, not heavy and I can control it with my iPhone.

Have been following this thread for a while and have recently purchased the 43inch version of the TV, with the intention of using it as a PC monitor. I have been using 3 27inch 1080p screens, all being fed from a single GTX 970 and have temporarily replaced them with this TV and I must say, for the money it gets a 10/10 from me. Once you have the funky scaling options setup, manually adjust the refresh to 60hz, you are left with a big, ultra clear, smooth display. Played an hour of Battlefield 4, plus a few other games and the input lag seems no different from my other displays. I haven't used the built in speakers, nor the TV side of this screen, but as a simple big 4k monitor, for the price I'd give it 10/10. Very pleased.

I'm running 60hz, GTX980. UHD4k. Massive monitor! Side by side with my Dell 24 inch.
Of course its not like a monitor! But for £299. This is the best deal you can ever get on a 4k at the moment!

Only 4:2:0, I'm afraid. Coming from smaller 1080p screens, games and menus etcetera are all significantly clearer, albeit rather blindingly bright. Obviously modern AAA games need more horsepower than what I have to hit that 60fps constant, but I was fully aware of this. For music production/casual gaming/web browsing/watching movies and youtube it is very suitable. If you are requiring a video/photo editing screen then I'd guess absolutely no good. Only 4:4:4 test screens have looked a bit **** so far, everything else looks kinda beautiful.

There are no weird red and blue edges around text at all. Other than red background and blue text and the reverse, everything looks perfect to me.

Games certainly do use 4:4:4 chroma.

Get the black screen thing every now and then, too. This is using a PC into HDMI 1 input. Have witnessed it maybe 5 times now in the last 30 hours or so. Hard to know how often and therefore to diagnose. I have not updated the firmware from factory. Still really liking it, though, but hopefully a firmware fix is either there or soon to be.

Before I returned both of mine to Argos I updated the firmware.The black screen still appeared on both TVs.

I can't see anything obvious on that link to provide a new firmware (other then the generally available 003.010.000.000).
Am I missing something?

Bought the 43" version this week. Seeing it in my living room, glad I didn't go for the 49"!

Very pleased with the picture quality at both SD and HD, haven't tried 4k yet but I'm only bothered about that for a bit of future proofing. Did need a few tweaks on the settings before I was happy with it, but then so has every TV I've ever owned.

Connecting it to the PS4, video in HD on Amazon, iplayer and All4 looked fantastic. Had an hour playing BF Hardline and Tomb Raider (TV set to game mode); results were excellent and a massive improvement on the LG lcd it replaced, no input lag I could perceive, nor was there any ghosting etc.

Haven't tried the wifi connection as the extra channels don't look worth the bother. Had no interest in any smart features (consoles/fire sticks etc do it cheaper and better), but USB recording is a nice extra.

For the price this is outstanding and I'm very pleased.

Okay so I turned mine on this morning and I'm getting no signal on any of the HDMI ports... Time to dig through all these posts to find anyone with the same issue.

can the GAME MODE be enabled to be used with the PC?? Also is anyone been able to get 4-4-4 chroma [email protected] with these latest firmwares??

Yup, I'm using Game mode on my PC right now via HDMI 1. I belive [email protected] is 4-2-0, but it still looks absolutely beautiful!

Ty, great. Yee I know 4-4-4 does mostly affects text, on game is imperceptible. A good question for the gamers, how does compare with your existing monitor in terms of response?

Hi, I am currently using 150% windows scaling, 100% chrome zoom, large cursor icons preset and the PC mode on the TV. It is all pretty large when I''m sat 2-3 feet away, sometimes 8-10feet away (sofa). My black screen glitch seems to have gone away and apart from this morning everything was green and had to adjust nVidia settings to get it back.

I can only get 4:2:0, at UHD 60hz, which is fine for my usage. The input lag seems very low to me, although I have never tried a flat panel, ultra responsive screen, or beyond 60hz refresh, so my opinion will differ greatly from others.

I had intended on mounting the monitor above 3 27inch screens, but decided against this as I like this screen so much. Now have 2 1080p screens either side of this in portrait mode. Not too much 4k video out there, made the mistake of signing up for Netflix to then realise PC's don't get the UHD format!! Crazy. Still gets a 10/10 for me, even if it was £1-200 more I think I'd feel the same. It's a TV so has usual TV quirks.

now you will get Netflix with your new 4k tv. I remember I did when I subscribed for free and with the PC. The PC is the only one guaranteed to get all the 4k films on Netflix, I could only get 2 or 3 with the Samsung 6900.

I subscribed to the biggest package with Netflix, where I should have got UHD quality on their limited UHD selection and what I saw was 100% not ultra HD. I then tried to find out what I was doing wrong and from numerous forums I was fully led to the conclusion that Netflix 4K is not supported on Windows Pc's. Did not try the Netflix 'App', just a normal web browser, so maybe that was the issue.

I haven't been able to run the test (as I don't own a digital camera), but I have been testing input lag while playing Rocket League, FIFA 16 and Battlefront. Didn't notice it all on the first 2, and on Battlefield it is so minimal it doesn't even affect my score (which is normally in the Top 3). All this in Game mode.

I'm currently considering this set primarily for gaming on pc, would be running an r9 290 @ 4k with a display port to hdmi adapter @ 60hz.
Currently using a 43 inch samsung plasma, would it be worth buying this purely for the 4k....mainly fps games like battlefield 4.

Yup, on high, that's doable. However, speaking as an ex-Crossfire user, I'd urge you think twice about getting another 290 and really have a good think about a GTX 980 Ti or Fury X. The experience is just a whole lot more stable even if your raw frame-rates may be slightly lower.

No doubt its a more stable and cooler solution but I couldn't justify or afford nearly £600 on a new graphics card....especially when I'm pushing the budget for this tv at £300!
Can anybody confirm if they've tried running this tv at 1440p as a compromise in the short term, it would be good to have the option of lowering the resolution to keep the frame rate nearer the 60 mark without comprimising too much on the eye candy.

you can but I suggest custom PANORAMIC resolutions UNSCALED for games only, ex:3840x1600, 3840 x1440, 3200x1200 or smaller, any size res. can be created if you use it on the desktop. AMD software is crap for that despite they included new software to create custom resolutions recently. I got 2x290 but prefer my gtx 970 sli because of the flexibility the software gives. At 2560x1440 unscaled you still get an equivalent screen of 31" unscaled but amd forgot to add a little software which would do that for games as they all expand as it stands unless there is a way which I have not found yet

Still early days but my first impressions are the tv is quite good for using as a pc monitor as I haven't seen any bad input lag, have noticed some lightbleed in the corners when the screen is black though. so wouldn't recommend as a primary tv set for the living room on that basis.
Im curently running at 2560 x 1440 resolution, looks nice and sharp with decent colour reproduction. Still awaiting my display to hdmi cable to allow full 60hz...currently running at 30hz which isn't ideal.

Just turned the TV on, and it's a blank screen slightly lighter than if it was off. What an absolute waste of time, piece of crap. AVOID!

I've been trying to get 3440x1440 but every time I test it on the Nvidia panel, screen goes black. What resolutions are working for you, and are you patching anything? Thanks in advance!

OK, on any resolution different than the initial 3840,change the timing to manual first of all (do not change anything on that section) and if you do not want any resolutions to be stretched or adapt to a non native resolution. Not needed for ex:3840x1600 or 3840x1440 or 3840x1200 and so on. Then go to the "adjust desktop size and position and choose "no scaling", tick " override the scaling mode set by games and programs". IMPORTANT "perform scaling on: DISPLAY not the gpu, not many do realize that by choosing gpu will not have any advantages and also at least more that 10% of the gpu power is lost. Always choose the refresh rate at 60hz as there is no way that you can get more and smoothly at the same time as you will lose frames during gaming and make it worse, even at 61hz can make it worse if the panel cannot handle it.

Gave 3840x1600 & 3840x1440 both a try, but the TV still goes black and says No Signal. Every time I hit Test for any of those resolutions even on Manual and 60hz, it goes No Signal, until it times out and comes back to the regular one. Am I missing something?


EDIT: Tested with a 970 a few days ago, and with a 980Ti right now.

this tv might not have support but my understanding is that should because all you do is to get an unscaled resolution in within his original resolution, when you get the black bars they are also active pixels in reality. If unscaled then can be considered as the tv not supporting it. Let us know
I got 970sli and I do not get any problems at all with my Panasonic ax802 and I remember when I had the Samsung 6900 series it was working too. Try with different cables just in case, any old hdmi should work at 60hz also try other smaller resolutions and see if it works.

Try with the CVT timing in the timing box. I had a similar problem with the new crimson drivers for my amd 290 and with the CTV timing it was accepting the whatever resolution

I got one of these (43PUT4900) to use as a PC monitor. Excellent deal, but I had a small color issue, which I finally tracked down. Seems that at 3840x2160 resolution, at least on my device, there is still some pixel smoothing or something still being applied on red.
Green and blue are nice and sharp, but red is smoothed to almost flat color. This is most evident in text in a DOS cmd prompt which should be white on black, but has a distinct cyan tint, and black on white, showing a distinct reddish tint. High res text that is - close to 1 pixel thicjness at 4k resolution.

In the image, each of those lines should be 2 pixels wide, red green and blue. On my screen the red is blurred out, not sharp like green and blue (3840x2160 setting)

I jsut updated from 002.130.000.000 to 002.180.000.000, where does 003.010.000.000 come from? I don't see that on Philips support site. Geographic filtering? I'm trying to see from UK.

But you can the problem in the top line, the red test text/pattern. Can read the bottom two lines fine, though they're not that good. Probably because there is lots of red in them?

I'll look into that further though, see if I can get a definitive on what the chroma subsampling is.

I can't see any chroma comments for that, but does look like the issue.

I'm wondering if this might be some weird chroma mode chosen by my graphics card? (Intel 4000 series on a Thinkpad T430)

Originally those chips could not drive 3840x2160, and to do it I have to add a custom resolution of 3840x2160 @24 Hz, any higher frequency gives me a bandwidth exceeded error, even though many linux/ubuntu systems can use that resolution just fine.

Next test - ubuntu bootable CD.

Anyone had any issues with the ARC functionality connecting to an external AV amplifier? Sometimes it seems to lose connection and if I try to turn ARC back on, I get a message saying 'Failed. TV Speakers Active'.

I have to spend ages turning various CEC (EasyLink) and ARC settings on and off, aswell as the TV itself and my Amp to get the link set up again. If this is going to be a constant problem, I'm going to have to return it.

In the 43PUT4900 spec sheet it says:
HDCP 2.2 on all HDMI
Computer inputs on all HDMI @60 Hz up to 4K Ultra HD 3840 x 2160

Kind of implies that it has 4:4:4, use as a monitor is definitely indicated in the user manual, even has a computer activity setting, so it's been allowed for.

It does look like 4:2:0, but that subsampling I thought would be applied to YUV (YCbCr) so I would expect both red and blue to lose resolution (not that I understand how to read 4:2:0)

HDMI supports three video pixel formats: RGB4:4:4, YCbCr4:4:4 and YCbCr4:2:2. (And presumably plenty of OEM specific extensions presumably, like 4:2:0)

Are you suggesting that this is RGB4:2:0?

I'm still supicious of the Intel HD 4000 graphics chip. Pixel clock limit is 165Mpix/s, which 3840x2160x30fps breaches, but 3840x2160x24fps can do. Or maybe the mini-displayport to HDMI (active) adapter I'm using. Apparently that needs to regenerate a TMDS clock for a third HDMI channel, required for 4K operation.

Need another 4k source to identify which end the problem is on.

You could be right though. Hope not, I like this as a monitor a lot, and anything else is out of my price range.

Actually, I don't think it can be the mini-displayport to HDMI. Signal is digital, if the incoming data is skewed or anything, that wouldn't result in two digital values being half in one pixel and half in the next, unless checksums or something are involved.

It could be the sending thing not correctly interpreting the capabilities stated in the EDID of the receiving thing.

I had a NO signal problem today on all channels, I had to switch off and unplug the set and plug back in and switch on to get the channels back.

Did you have much problem exchanging it? Luckily I kept packaging

Erm first one i took the tv and remote and they exchanged on the spot. Its been three weeks now for this one so I'm after my money back. Same fault, no packaging but hey ho. I doubt ill get third time lucky

It's Just happened again, I switch off the tv for a few minutes and upon return switched on NO signal.

I done some testing, as the tv wasn't detecting a video signal also from my Humax freeviewbox, I disconnected the hdmi lead and switched back on the tv without the need of unplugging the tv, it worked.

Plugging in the hdmi the freeviewbox with tv was on worked, but again switching off the tv, the same problem occurred.
I only used my freebox for the first time since owning the tv (the box was used in a different room)

I emailed the support, and got a quick response asking me to perform a software update (which already upto date) and also a re-install, but it didn't make any difference.
I spoke to them on the phone which was promptly answered, and after a few questions, they have escalated the problem and I now await for them to get back to me with a answer/fix.

Hi, I took mine back tonight and got a refund. If it was the first time I might have waited but feel its probably a dodgy software issue / dodgy batch.

I also loved the tv and am back to my 40" JMB (Sainsburys special) and you can see the difference especially in high speed moving i.e watching footie etc.

I think i'm gonna try the LG from richer sounds albeit £50 more.

Had the same issue as others, no signal error on hdmi ports,remote not responding.
Exchanged for another and so far so good with this one.

My first one lasted 1 week, second one 3 weeks :smiley:.

Its certainly a software issue but when will they get a fix

I just had the no signal fault on HDMI ports with the 43" model after a month.

Did some power cycling. And then unplugged HDMI3/New Now TV box. That resolved the issue. The day before was the first time I had used that port and that device.

I haven't tried recreating the error yet, but just wondering if that rang true with anyone else.

It's time Philips come clean on this fault.

Can you take a look at this graphic at 4k (3840x2160)? That is if you're on a 43" 43PUT4900 :smiley:


(maybe copy-paste local, chrome zoom at least is little bit over-zealous in scaling)

The left image should show each of R,G,B as two pixels wide with two pixels separation. You might need a magnifying glass for that. The right image is what my setup shows; G and B are fine, R is smeared at 2 pixels. If I zoom in, the left one comes clear.

Is all of Red, Green and Blue showing clear stripes at maximum on your setup? Your red is showing resolution same as green/blue?

As you say, it's still an excellent monitor (for the price). Just the cyan smearing I see at 4k irks me.

Still have that red smearing on ubuntu, so I don't think the issue is the laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad T430)

To follow up my earlier comment, I get the No Signal fault after I have connected my Black Now TV box either on HDMI 2 or 3 (couldn't be bothered testing HDMI 1). All works initially but going to stand by and back on I get no signal.

Anyone else figure out if it's a particular device that caused your issue.

On my last set it was my Humax box on hdmi 1 freezing the TV up. I got the no signal error but also the remote wouldn't work at all. I was using cheap basic hdmi leads that I've had for years.
I got the set replaced but also upgraded my hdmi cables to the Labgear ones from screwfix.
No problems at all so far, running hdmi 1 and 2 daily.

I have found if you put on the blueray player or any thing connected to HDMI before puting on the TV the TV crashes ! loss of sound and HD channels , problem solved put TV on first then turn on device, I have also just updated the firm ware for the TV so hope it should be more stable now

I think you really need to accept that this is a 4:2:0 display and that there's nothing wrong with your laptop. It's a £300 4K TV, come on!

I have had this to and I know what the problem is, I have my fire tv stick attached at all time so when I try and change to my ps4 which is turned on I get no signal. The fix is turning off the tv and taking out the fire stick(anything attached in standby mode) then turn the tv back on and it works.

mines working a treat, just ordering a Club3D Displayport 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 UHD so can give it the beans, but for picture quality its awesome, its only for pc upstairs, didnt want bells and whistles or smart. gaming is fine been cranking the games up, dirt rally looks amazing, as well as black ops3. gona pop on tf2 later. all in all a steal imo. yes its sluggish, sound is well ewww(have a soundbar for that), tv guide is terrible, does a ood job of sd and hd upscaling

I had to return mine to argos , because of the crashing problem when I tryed to record a program with blueray recorder it caused the TV to crash - Argos was very good they exchanged TV and the replacement duse not have the problem now . picture quality is breathtaking on this TV .

So this is not a cheap 4k screen but the real deal? How is it with football and other fast moving stuff?

I'm having issues with black levels looking grey.Tried all kinds of settings. Think I'm going to try to get a refund or exchange.

My AMD R9 290 card doesn't detect this TV correctly, it recognizes it as Philips FTV and gives it max resolution of 1920x1080. Any ideas how to make it detect this correctly and get the full 3840x2160 resolution? AMD drivers are the latest there is.

you could try setting a custom desktop resolution. you can do that in the NVIDIA control panel. don't know about AMD.

I also own a 290 and AMD are crap including their crap of crap customer useless service. Anyway, wondering if you are connecting to a non 4k HDMI connection (not all sometime are 4k connections) but I must assume you tried all. About the cable itself, any cable even the very oldest should provide you with a resolution of max 3840x2160 up to 30hz, unless you see visual artifacts (they still do 4k30hz). I must also assume you tried other cables, no idea what else you could try, if the tv is capable of 4k, the 290 should 100% give that resolution at 30hz max (60hz if you use the right adapter from DP to HDMI). . As I said I also use a 290 with a hitachi 43" (vestel) and it works (no problems) on any hdmi connection. Finally, always get NVidia as I never experienced all the crap and problems that do come with AMD and making cinematic non scaled resolutions with NVidia is simple.
