They don't wan't to be tied into a 2 year contract, what are you finding difficult to understand about that?

A great deal. I can't wait to get rid of the landline and get one of these. Still under contract tho for another 6 months

Is this going to be £27.50 x 24 = £660 after the contract for 50GB per month cap download?

50GB isn't much though. Not for home broadband, I get through nearly four times this amount.

Although a good deal, it was even better deal for black Friday.. Only £25 for this deal at that time.. And those with vouchers can get it another 20% cheaper...

Would appear to be the cheapest way to buy EE 4G mobile data. We have the Osprey 2 and it works great, but with the frequency of the EE 100GB free for two months offers, I don't personally think this is a hot deal. But it isn't a vote from me either way...

Seems a good deal - so I'll add heat.
I guess it all depends on your coverage as to what speed you get. I'd have 6 users to feed, I know they use about 4Gb via their phone/month, that leaves about 4.5Gb each for their other devices per month, nice... I guess I need to feed at least 12 devices, but then they are not on all together, a little juggling perhaps. Tempted, but I don't really want a 2 year contract, monthly rolling contract would suit me better - that way I could figure out the "dead" areas....

Still a bit too expensive to ditch the landline!
Getting my internet for 13 a month, unlimited and 16mb.
Hopefully can get rid of it in a year when these come down to more like twenty on 12 month contract.

Doesn't the Osprey 2 Mini switch off after a short period of inactivity? And that you have to manually switch it back on to go online again? If so that's going to be a massive PITA.
The first generation Osprey, which I have, doesn't do this and WiFi remains on all the time, regardless of whether I'm using one of my devices or not.

I can report that it doesn't do this. I bought the Osprey mini 2 - payg - with 100gb (1 month only) for £27 from Currys a few weeks ago and was worried about reports that it would power down after a while if inactive, but it has never done this. Maybe they changed it, as it does sound like a pain if other units did this.

Yes I sent an Osprey back because it powers down all the time and there is no way to turn it off

Am I missing something? Why not go for the ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT DATA from 3. For a 12 Month contract a £18 per month, you get truly unlimited 4G data and 200 minutes to boot. The only downside is that the tethering is limited to 12GB per month.
Is this not a good alternative?
Tigeryang to tpol
28 Dec 15#25
This sounds like a mobile phone tariff your describing... The EE one is a dedicated data sim so there is no tethering as such. I have an EE data sim with 25GB monthly rolling contract at £30/month so this is extremely tempting but as mentioned before being tied up for 24 months is a definite deal breaker because, as mentioned also, the deals are getting cheaper all the time with more data becoming available. The minute a 50gb/month with monthly rolling contract becomes available i'll be all over it!!

I had the AYCE SIM from Three but eventually cancelled - Couldn't get signal anywhere I needed it such as on commute for streaming music (M4) or around my home area. Data speeds were incredibly slow for '4G' as well :disappointed: I suppose you get what you pay for.

Good deal so I went for this as an upgrade.
They let me have something similar (25gb & 25gb customer loyalty bonus) for £28.
So my customer loyalty has cost me 50p a month
Still, better than the hassle of opening a new accoung and closing the old one.

Forget the osprey guys. This is the best contract data sim deal out there by a country mile. For us country folk gives brilliant connection speeds. No need for a land line.

I agree on the above comment but the battery is so bad on this thing just last less then 2 hrs on my device if full throttle downloading is in progress.

I don't think it's so much as to 'you get what you pay for' in this instance. I know as my son still has the old AYCE on 3 and he used to get 40-50Mbs when on 3G and still around this speed now they switched him to 4G. Like all networks, 3 still will not be suitable for everyone due to coverage. I don't get any EE signal where I am and where I spend most my days, O2 is best for me followed by 3 and Vodafone equally.

Very unreliable these little boxes, I've had 2 that have died in a month from Argos when there was a deal. Both of which had no sign of any life even plugged in. Good when they worked but I can't trust them anymore.

I succumbed to temptation and went for this. Thanks for the above tip ^. I just got the same deal for 24/month with a free normal osprey thrown in for free. Fairly happy as i have just doubled my data and saved 6 quid a month and have a new osprey as a back up when my old one packs in. Due to this being my main internet connection, i'm probably going to invest in a decent LTE router.

You couldve stacked three 100gb / month for 2 months to take you to glasto sim then 3 more back to xmas sim. That makes it 20% of the price of this and twice as much data. Anything more than about 15 pounds you may as well get a line rental free talk talk unlimited landline deal cold from me

Currently building a house out in the sticks and whilst I still have a long way to go, I've managed to get it semi-liveable. Been contemplating how best to get broadband in the house. My neighbours (all with BT) can only achieve 0.5mb per second. I went with EE mobile broadband and can achieve 50mb per second!
Thanks OP. You've saved me the hassle of phoning BT and OpenReach and trying to arrange a landline connection. I doubt I would've even achieved it this year, as I need to go down the route of moving telephone poles and all sorts. This way, I got high speed internet straight away.
This shows though that the UK needs a serious overhaul of its internet infrastructure if it thinks that 0.5mb per second for a landline connection is acceptable in this day and age.
Have some Heat OP.

Can this be used as a home broadband alternative? I live out in the sticks at the moment and the best broadband we can get is 2mb. I am an avid gamer and just wanted to know if I can use this as a stable and good internet connection, thanks!

Interestingly I was offered a 4g router yesterday with 50gig of data 12 month contract for £33.50 per month again with EE. I turned it down as I already have a 4g router but I was tempted. Better to have a router with LAN ports than the Osprey for gaming. As to the gaming though my son blitzed through 100gb of data at Christmas with his new Xbox as he he was buying games and having to completely download them. As to stability and speed there were/are no issues. Just ensure that you are in a 4g area. I live in the sticks but have both Vodafone and EE 4g available.
Opening post
Was £55 a month, now £27.50 a month (24 months)
