I use one of these for a Slingbox so that I can reboot it remotely if it locks up even when abroad via an app on the phone. Don't forget Quidco or TCB for around 6% cashback.
Just ordered a spare for $14.87 and used this code keryetGB for 7% off so around £9.91 @$1.50 exchange rate.

Reading the reviews on amazon it would appear that this plug will only work on the same network, so no good if you're trying to use mobile internet or a different wifi network.

You only need to be on the same network when setting up, so once paired you could effectively control it from anywhere in the world!

They work fine on 3G/4G mobile networks but, to do so, you have to set up a username and password using the app first.

Got one had it for a month use it to switch on the floor lamps with the timer setting has 7 day program really good. Don't know why there's negative review on Amazon regarding working on 3G mine works fine just need to make sure the time zone is set correctly along with day time saving setting... App does what it suppose to. Great little kit to have lights on when your not home!

Yeah but the negative reviews are about trying to control it from anywhere in the world. They're saying it will ONLY work on the same network.
I really want to get some but not much use if only working on the same network. What the heck! for a tenner its worth a shot
Thats great assuming you know you have been hacked, and also assuming you know how to change the password, but yes agreed, this would fix the problem. Until you get hacked again.

How often do you get hacked? Maybe change your password to something a bit harder to guess

There are some good troubleshooting tip in the user reviews on Amazon.

I have one and it works fine over mobile networks. They keep updating their app whereby the occasional updates has a few glitches. I'd say if the app is working fine, don't risk updating it! But indeed, it's work a punt at a tenner. Worst case you can just set it up as a timer for a lamp when you go on holiday

If your network has been hacked twice, I'd say that your bedside lamp turning on and off from this switch is the least of your worries.

Just received one and I must say aside from the poor setup instructions, I am impressed.
Anyone managed to control these from outside your home network and if so how?
