So the best option is to get a decent battery and a separate solar panel, due to overheating of the li-ion battery. Brilliant, thanks for clearing that up!

There was a discussion on the last Xiaomi battery deal a few weeks back. I couldn't face diving into the 1000+ comment long thread....but the two cheaper Xiaomi options on Ebay at the time both had wording to the effect that it wasn't a genuine battery.
That isn't unusual on Ebay. After all, there are sellers selling 128GB micro SD cards for pennies. If you look at the description, they state that the cards are remanufactured and could have as little as 4GB of space!
Tread with caution on Ebay, and ALWAYS pay with Paypal

I bought one last month, decent battery pack. It had 75% of charge and had my iPhone charged for at least 3 times. To charge the battery pack it takes a while, for mine at least 8hrs.

Are you stating that there are Ebay auctions that are stating they are selling XIAOMI power banks that are not genuine? That is in breach of Ebay rules. Can you give a link to such an auction?
If you want to check if your Xiaomi power bank is genuine, compare it with those on the manufacturer's power bank page here.http://www.mi.com/en/powerbank/

Garbage customer service. I was a loyal customer until the hassle I've had over the last few days with a missing order. "would I wait another week" was the reply they gave me in around 3 messages, ignoring my reasons as to why this couldn't be the case. Then a request to check at the post office. "The" post office? Is there just one? Since when is it the buyers responsibility to track down missing items before a refund is issued?!

The one thing you don't want to do with a li-ion battery is overheat it....yet that is exactly what you have to do to get it to recharge on one of those solar batteries. The input power is also woeful on those little panels.
You would be FAR better off getting one of these Xiaomi batteries, and a proper solar panel that can charge two devices simultaneously.

The battery pack can hold a lot of charge and works great on my phone and tablet however it takes quite a while to charge. Also it has pass through so you can charge the battery and your phone at the same time, however if you do that then the phone charges but the battery pack won't.
