I requested an unlock code but was told I need to insert the sim for 24 hours before they can do so....anyone else had this response ?

No, just insert it. Make a 2 second call to you land line then take the sim out. Then request the unlock code. Should be emailed to you in about 48 hours. Mine wasn't so i went on online chat and they emailed it me straight away.

All completed. Thanks. Phone £240, cancelled contact after two days and now just waiting for unlock code which I ordered online without issue. Told it can take up to 7 days. Was told i'd be charged for 2 days airtime, they will take the full £21 but will then be refunded through a claim.

i think you should report it to trading standards and complain to ofcom. i jave done that as it is unfair that they start billing me even before the phone is delivered....! in my case it was delivered three days late!!!

Small Print on the deal

This document contains some important information about your Device Plan Consumer Credit Agreement (CCA) with Telefónica UK Ltd(trading as O2). Telefónica UK Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We’ve produced a summary of the Pre-contract information (SECCI) for you to keep. This tells you the amount of credit you’ll take and your monthly repayments.

You can also have a copy of the Device Plan CCA to consider before you sign up. You’ll also be agreeing to our Pay Monthly Mobile Agreement (Airtime Agreement) which covers the terms and conditions relating to services under your Airtime Plan (e.g. calls, texts and data on the O2 network).

Please consider all the information, including this document and the SECCI.You are entering into a credit agreement called a "Fixed Sum Loan Agreement" which allows you to pay back the cost of the device(s) (and sometimes accessories) you're buying over time. The credit provided is for the equipment listed only and cannot be used for anything else. The amount of loan will be applied as payment for the goods (less any upfront payment you choose to make). You must pay any upfront payment when signing up.

You can withdraw from the Device Plan within 14 days (cooling-off period). The 14 day cooling-off period starts on the day after you sign the Device Plan Credit Agreement or when you receive the equipment (if that’s later). You can choose to continue with the Airtime Plan if you withdraw from the Device Plan within 14 days and settle the credit amount or if you pay the Device Plan in full later on. You can then upgrade to a new O2 Refresh deal at any time.

You’ve the right to cancel within 14 days from when you sign up or when you get your sim / and or device (whichever one’s later). You don’t have to give a reason. You can either return it and cancel your whole Refresh deal (both the Device Plan and Airtime Plan agreements) or change it for another device (you can only do this once). If you’ve signed up to O2 Refresh by buying out your old contract early and then changed your mind, you can’t go back to your old tariff once your new service has started. And you can’t get a refund on your old contract buy-out fee. You’ll need to return all the equipment to the same place you bought it as soon as possible, but no later than 14 days from when you tell us you want to cancel the contract. The equipment must be in the condition in which it was purchased (including removing any software / security features and other protections that would disable it or prevent us from accessing it for assessment or refurbishment). If you’ve taken a bundle, this means returning all the equipment in that bundle. If you received your equipment in the post, please follow the return instructions on your despatch note or email confirmation. Tell us clearly that you wish to cancel. You can do that by contacting us or you can use the cancellation form on our website (o2.co.uk/help/phones-and-devices/our-returns-and-repairs-policy#qs ). If you cancel, we’ll reimburse you for all the payments you’ve made (except for enhanced delivery charges or an old contract buy-out fee), but we might make a deduction for the loss of value of any of the equipment supplied, if damaged. You are only responsible for the reduced value of the equipment as a result of handling, apart from what’s necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the equipment. And, if you asked to begin the performance of services during the cancellation period, you’ll pay for the services (e.g. calls, texts, data) that you’ve used. If a reimbursement is due, we will make it no later than 14 days after the day you return the equipment or after you provide evidence that you’ve returned the equipment. We may withhold reimbursement until we’ve got the equipment back or you supply proof of having sent it back. If you cancel your Device Plan without returning all your equipment you will have to pay for the equipment in full, straightaway.

If you do not keep up with the Device Plan repayments or Airtime Plan payments (either individually or both together): Your device(s) and / or SIM may be barred and only reconnected when your payments are up-to-date; We could require you to repay the full amount of the credit early.Failure to make payments could also mean:You may have to pay costs and expenses that we incur enforcing the credit agreement (like legal costs or admin fees for debt collectors). We may take action under your Airtime Agreement.Your credit records may be affected, making it more difficult or more expensive for you to borrow again or take contracts from us in the future. If we are ultimately unable to obtain repayment, we may have to take legal action including bankruptcy proceedings against you.

You will have to repay the amount of credit early if your Airtime Agreement comes to an end before you have settled your Device Plan (e.g. if you end it without notice by porting to another network, or where it ends because you or we are in material breach of the Airtime Agreement or if we exceed our rights to increase prices under the Airtime Agreement). Each year, your Airtime Plans price will be adjusted on your April bill every year by the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate announced the preceding February. If you are in breach of your Airtime Agreement it means we could take action under the Device Plan Credit Agreement (e.g. we could require you to repay your Device Plan early). There are other ways you can be in breach of the credit agreement, for example, by becoming apparently insolvent, and there are other instances of default – ask us for more details.

Make sure you read this, the SECCI and your Device Plan Credit Agreement carefully before you sign. Got questions, just ask us or go to o2.co.uk. The offer in the SECCI is only valid for the day and in the channel you receive it as our pricing may change. If you want more information about your rights under the Device Plan CCA, contact your local Trading Standards or nearest Citizens Advice Bureau.

These are your notes before you sign the agreement online.

No, total price payable for the phone should be £240 (plus the up front £19.99), not £360. You need to click on the correct tariff - the one that has the £10 a month phone repayments, and not the £15 a month ones

I bought this deal a few days ago as Ive been after an S6 for a few weeks now.
Phone arrived a day later. Phone itself is like new condition wise - not a mark on it at all, and came with data lead only, which is fair enough. (Plus the O2 sim card)
I tried it with my Vodafone sim card just to see if it worked. It didnt. So went on the online chat to get the phone unlocked, at which point I was told I needed to make a chargeable call with it first. I put my O2 sim card in it and made a quick 5 second call. Job done. Back onto the online chat, and they took all the details for unlocking it, and told me the code will be supplied in the next 7 days by email.
Got the code this morning (after 2 days).
Had to ring the 202 number for customer services to both pay off the £240 for the device, and to cancel my airtime contract. All done and dusted in about 5 minutes, although they pestered a little bit for why I was wanting to leave.
I have cancelled the O2 direct debit with my bank account, just in case they try to take anything out, mistakenly or otherwise. Reading the T&Cs I think I can maybe expect a bill for the 5 second chargeable call that i made with the phone.
If theres anything Ive missed that I should have done different or still to do I'd appreciate the advice

They said it was wrongly charged and I should cancel my DD from my bank account.
She also said the money wouldn't be credited to me until 3nd of January 2016.
But she said I should not worry about it. HOW?
that means in December 2015, the payment request of £420.00 will be rejected and how will that affect my credit score?

are they supplying the fast charger with the phone? (apologies if this has been answered before!) O2 usually doesn't supply a charger arguing people have spare chargers with them! but these old chargers don't have the fast charge tech! considering the feedback on the S6 battery. I will only be able to use it if I can fast charge.

Ahh my phone is faulty. Takes about 10seconds to focus when you first open the camera app. Sometimes you have to shake it to focus, which is a well known problem with these phones on a google search. Jeez don't o2 check there phones before they send it out or just hope the buyer doesnt notice the faults. I had to have my Note 3 replaced twice due to faulty phones and this isnt just a coincidence. They say these phones are customer returns before 14 days more like customer returns for minor faults then sold as refurb!

Just rang O2 customer services.

Cancelled the contract without any issues and paid £240 for the device. I have been told that I will get a final bill for air time which will be pro-rata'd based on usage (of which there has been none) - I believe this is £21 but if it gets pro-rata'd then I believe this will be only a few $s. Will confirm when I get the bill.

info: Welcome to O2, someone will be with you soon.
info: You are through to Jordan
CUSTOMER: Hi
JORDAN: Hello, it's Jordan here. I hope you're well. What can I do for you?
CUSTOMER: Im looking at buying a reconditioned iphone 5c 8gb on refresh
CUSTOMER: I need some help with an explanation of how refresh works
JORDAN: I'll explain.
CUSTOMER: Basically the phone costs £5 a month for the phone and £13.50 for the airtime yes?
JORDAN: Alright.
JORDAN: The device you’re interested in is available on O2 refresh.
With O2 Refresh, this will include two contracts and two monthly bills - one for your device and one for your airtime (minutes, texts and data). All bills must be paid by direct debit.
The device plan is a 0% APR Representative credit agreement with Telefonica UK Limited which means Telefonica UK limited loans you the money to buy the device and you repay it through monthly installments over 24 months. You can also make additional payments (which will reduce the monthly cost) or repay the full loan amount early at any time. Once you have paid off the device, you can stay connected to an airtime or data plan for as long as you want to, or you can upgrade to a brand new device. This gives you flexibility to change your device whenever you want.
As the device plan is a regulated credit agreement, O2 Refresh is subject to eligibility, credit checks and an affordability assessment.
CUSTOMER: ok
CUSTOMER: so with o2 refresh even if i only had the contract for 2 days and decided i wanted to pay the phone off and cancel the air time contract i could do so?
JORDAN: You can pay off the device cost after the first bill.
CUSTOMER: Ok, sorry for questions just it all seems to easy so want to make sure before ordering. I do like to change my phone often and dont want to be tied to one comany
CUSTOMER: So using the iphone 5c refresh £18.50 a month as an example
CUSTOMER: I could pay the £120 for the phone cost
CUSTOMER: and one months airtime of £13.50 and i would be free of all contract?
CUSTOMER: so on that total paid would be £133.50?
JORDAN: Yes, somewhat around the same.

CUSTOMER: Great, not had one of these contracts before so just seems to easy
CUSTOMER: Thanks for all your help

Read above, they guy i spoke clearly said you can cancel AFTER your first bill

30 Nov 15 #77
I'm paying monthly for Experian but I believe there is one that let's you check for free, can't remember the name though unfortunately. Main thing is that if like me, you don't have (m)any credit accounts, it can greatly reduce the average age of all your credit accounts as it appears as a one month loan. If you plan on keeping the phone and airtime it might be fine as the average age won't be substantially affected, but even still, lenders like people to have an average age of 33 months or more. Doing this O2 Refresh 'trick' single handedly pulled it below that. It's not going to ruin your credit history and likely won't be the reason you don't get credit but it certainly won't help.

Even though it says it shouldn't affect your credit score. I've done 2 of these and both come up as negative markers. Luckily the rest is all good but if it weren't for this my score would be nigh on perfect. Won't be using o2 refresh again even for a personal phone.

Taken from http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/phones/2014/10/beware-split-tariff-mobile-contracts-if-youre-about-to-apply-for-credit

"Meanwhile, an Equifax spokesperson says: "Prospective lenders will likely view the handset loan in the same way as any other personal loan when assessing an individual's ability to repay.

"Having two separate agreements is unlikely to be detrimental to an individual's credit rating, and the rate of interest for the handset loan will be irrelevant in the context of the credit file. As with all credit agreements, any missed payments or defaults would likely cause concern for a lender.

Credit checking and mobile contracts

Anyone who takes out a mobile handset is likely to be credit checked, which can in itself have an impact on your credit file. This is the case even if you don't end up getting the product.

O2 and Tesco Mobile have both confirmed that anyone applying for a pay monthly mobile contract will be credit checked, although those taking out the split mobile tariffs will only be credit checked once.

So, business as normal for most people - if you've got a good credit rating, and make the payments nothing to worry about.

Having too many credit checks done against you theoretically can affect how something like a mortgage application is viewed - it's one of the reasons why you're careful how you shop around when looking for mortgages... so I can see how having two done at the same time for essentially the same thing might be something that would concern people.

In practice it's probably not much of an issue, but with something life changing like a mortgage application, it's the not knowing that's most of the problem!

OMG! I've been trying to order the 32gb version since early Friday! (S6)
The web site is showing 3 x S6 in stock, but won't let you order - this is because someone has them in their basket at which point they are 'reserved' for 30 minutes. If you keep refreshing the page, you may be lucky and grab one once the 30 mins has elapsed. I currently have the 128gb on reserve but hoping that the 32gb will come back into stock!

Maybe worth checking if they will have stock for Cyber Monday.

I think most people would like to pay in bones, my butcher sells them very cheap however I think O2 (and almost all other retailers in the UK) insist on cash payment.

29 Nov 15 #36
Looks like a good price, but since Samsung in their wisdom removed the ability to insert memory cards when they brought out the S6, I won't look at anything other than the 128GB version. It's much harder to find deals for this version :disappointed:
plewis00 to hhukdd1
29 Nov 15 #38
I think you've just explained and answered the reason why Samsung removed the memory card ability, because for power users like you, 128GB is the only choice and there is the up-sell.

info: Welcome to O2, someone will be with you soon.
info: You are through to Jordan

Yes, I copied everything from chat, post has been updated now,
the main point, So if you cancel your contract you pay "cash amount", if you stay on the contract you pay "Total amount payable for device"

Can someone please explain how o2 refresh works a little confused atm?
jonalexander970 to shaz1211
29 Nov 15 1 #14
Your monthly cost is split in two, so for example if your tariff is £28 a month say your phone plan could be £10 and your minutes , texts, data would be £18.
It allows you to pay off just the phone plan rather then the combined cost if you wanted to upgrade early.
Hope that helps

Hot, shame cheapest refurb deal for S6 Edge is £379.99 (£19.99 upfront plus £360.00 to pay when airtime contract cancelled).

Bought iPhone 5S refurb deal for daughter this summer and no problem cancelling airtime and keeping phone. Did get charged for a couple of days of the contract but not a big issue IMHO
