Great handset with excellent screen. Also runs the new Windows 10 Mobile OS very well too, though not officially released yet. Both myself and my wife have this handset, great camera and 4k UltraHD video recording too (if that's your bag).

daymouse, where did you get the refurbished one from? I checked on the O2 website and it says out of stock

I've just spoken to an advisor at O2 and she said that you can't unlock a payg phone in the first 12 months. I find that hard to believe. Anyone had any such experience?

She is speaking absolute rubbish right there.
I ordered 50 Nokia 105 phones earlier this year (£5 on O2's website, with £5 Quidco cashback per handset = free phones  ).
I unlocked all of them using my O2 contract account.
I have also unlocked second hand O2 phones which I am pretty sure must have been on pay as you go (Lumia 620 & 735).

Did you have to put your pay monthly sim into the pay as you go phone in order to unlock it?
wenttoabetterplace
28 Nov 151#15
Nope. I didn't even open the boxes for the Nokia 105's I bought.
Yep, choose 'pay monthly' for type of account, and give the phone number of your friends pay monthly account that you are using to unlock the phone. Then just include the IMEI number of your new Lumia 930. Unlock code takes around 24 hours to arrive.
Don't open the phone until you have received the code

Many thanks. I've ordered one. Can't wait for it to arrive on Tuesday .

Another piece of information that I got from Nokia/Microsoft Care centre in Edinburgh this morning and might be of use: if you get your Lumia phone unlocked by using a code, the Microsoft 2 year warranty won't be void. Unlocking the phone by using software will void the warranty.
I still think that it would be best to get the phone unlocked by the network provider if possible rather than a 3rd party.

It's a great phone - with a superb camera. Windows 10 Mobile is also a really nice step forward over 8.1 (you can get the latest Windows 10 Mobile build by becoming a 'Windows Insider').
You are going to be v.happy with this phone, of that I am quite sure . & it doesn't matter where the unlock code comes from...they all originate from Microsoft. O2 or whoever else are just the third party agents requesting the code & then waiting for MS to deliver it.

Cheers for the heads up and info on unlocking. I spoke to their Pay & Go team today and they confirmed as above that they'd allow a SIMplicity contract be used to unlock.

this is tempting - i have a 925 since release and so was gonna treat myself to a 950 - but this is sooo cheap, must resist!

£192 for a year-and-a-half old Windows Phone?
I don't think I'll bother.

Still has a better camera than most other smartphones. Also has built in QI charging (the rest of the market is still catching up). Most phones still don't have super-senstitive touch (for use with gloves) - and there are plenty of high end phones without 4K video recording.
Oh, and if you like recording quality audio with your videos, then these phones with their HAAC microphones really are excellent.
Lots of things still to like on these phones.

right. just google "nokia 930 mic problems" and you will see how great they are. It's not software issue!
It seems to be a hardware issue with a specific (big) batch of 930's. With a bit of luck, these O2 930's will be from an unaffected batch.

Although locked, it should still work with GiffGaff, if you want a PAYG option.
I have this, and the camera is great, and believe me, i'm a fussy **** when it comes to camera quality.

I have a 930 and prefer it to my work Galaxy 5S and the many iPhones I had previously. The 950XL should be out on the 5th Dec from what I have seen

Flashed the latest UK un-branded firmware (RM1045 Product code 059W004)
Ordered an unlock code from a certain auction site (item number : 111795547571) for £7.48
This will be getting Windows 10 upgrade when released.
Hope this helps others
