If chucking money at your problems is your idea of a 'fix', then I guess you are well suited to being in the Apple hardware camp.
Apple being the same company that made iPod's obsolete by fitting a non-replaceable battery that was only designed to last 18 months. The same company that STILL only offers a 1 year warranty...when companies like Nokia/MS have been offering 2 year warranties for years now.
Willy waving about your new iPhone really won't get many brownie points on these forums. All it does is show that you would rather burn money than get a hardware fix. Mother nature doesn't like your type

Money not a issue I upgraded to a Apple 6s Plus. I told the guy in the shop what I was going to do with my Lumia when I got home. And I did! Stamped on and put it in the bin!

Buymobiles have treated me very badly. My phone developed a fault days after the 12 month warranty expired from Apple. Without looking at the phone Buymobiles declared it was wear and tear (!). Apple insist I deal with Buymobiles. I am in the process of taking them to court to try to get them to honour their legal obligations as sellers. AVOID BUYMOBILES!

Well, yes, I was less than impressed with Apple. It wouldn't have cost them much, if anything, to keep me loyal. As it turned out, they don't care. Once you are out of the 12 month warranty or extended purchased warranty they don't want to know. Strictly speaking they are in their rights so I can't complain, but an obvious defect just as it goes over the 12 month warranty is poor. It's not like I was trying to blag a repair/replacement just before my contract was up,
Anyway, soon the sorry saga will be behind me and I am looking forward to my 950XL whilst I throughly enjoy my Surface Pro 4. Good luck anyone buying from Buymobiles, you will need it.
I assume you've read it? If you haven't, then it would seem that BuyMobiles should be providing far more assistance than they are. What is the fault with the phone? You may be able to find some legal precedent regarding the particular fault (with someone that has been through the process under the EU statutory law). You could then file a small claims court proceeding against BuyMobiles. You can bet that they wouldn't want to be dragged through a legal wrangle - ESPECIALLY if legal precedent shows that your fault should be fixed...even outside of the 1 year warranty.
On a side note, it's disgraceful that Apple sell phones that are in 2 year contracts, yet only warranty them for half the period.

haha - I popped back into this thread after placing my order with Amazon, but after speaking to Microsoft, was informed they would price match. Said they would forward the chat log, but didnt. Just got off the phone and have now ordered. The refund is done straight after it shipped. Within 5 minutes of putting the phone down I noticed the buymobiles thread @ £446.
I rung MS straight after and theyve agreed to honour buymobiles. Phone ships on the 3rd and MS have informed me the docks are limited to a first come first serve basis - so not only cheaper, I have a better chance of the dock. (If they didnt send that, I would return the phone)

Yes, thanks, I used info from the Apple link in my previous letters with Buymobiles. There has also been a recent update in the law:
As,far as I tell, it doesn't really change much, other than look more recent.
The onus is still on me to prove the phone had a defect.
My position is a phone that develops a fault (not user damage) during a 24 month contract is not fit for purpose. I had the phone inspected by an Apple genius, they gave me a report saying the screen has an internal fault. Actually, Apple were very clever with the wording to not point blame to the phone being defective.
Interestingly, I took this opportunity to tryout Section 75 with my credit card company (Barclaycard). They initially were very helpful, but then said I need to provide an professional inspection report, indicating the nature of the fault etc etc.. So that is less than helpful. Keep that in mind if you ever try Sec 75 for something like this,
As it is.. I have just ticked the seeking expert witness box on the small claim paperwork. Yes, it's a small amount of money (£200) I am seeking.. But it has gone beyond that, Buymobiles have annoyed the **** out of me and it's been a while since I have been in court, I am keen to go again. I expect they will try settle 'on the court steps', as just turning up will cost them more than my claim.
*sigh*. So as an aside.. I pay extra attention to warranties now. Pun intended.

That's the problem with Windows phones. It's a good OS which is not resource hungry and runs snappily even on phones with mediocre specs, the app store is getting better by the day, and the ecosystem has a lot of potential.
However, the current Windows mobile OS market share is under 2% and is not forecast to hit even 4% by the end of the decade. The recent writing-off by MS of billions of dollars spent on their recent Lumia acquisition doesn't bode well for the future of the OS either. If MS themselves are sending out negative signals on their own OS, one can expect devs and 3rd party hardware vendors to follow suit. Many of them have already got the hint.
The problem is that iOS and Android are now entrenched and have captured both the top and medium-bottom ends of the market. There is no room for a 3rd OS unless there is exceptional support from MS, other Windows phone hardware vendors and devs and that seems a fair mile away.
Shame, as I really liked the OS from trying it out on a cheap Lumia 520 a year ago as I'm sure are many early adopters. I definitely will not be spending £400+ on a flagship with so much uncertainty going forward.

I don't agree with this at all. I've had all manners of phones and the only real reason you'd opt for an android/windows phone would either be price point or development. Apple optimise their phones to the hardware, so they run smoother and are generally much more reliable. It doesn't suit everyone and people choose the device that they want, for their own reasons. But simply dismissing a product like that shows that you are very narrow minded and misinformed. Still, I enjoyed my OnePlus, and I would recommend one to anyone.

What amazes me is the amount of defence as well. I have noticed previously a glut of Windows Phone users on here pretty much refuting the fact that it does not have an app problem and that it has 'all they need'.

I think Microsoft have actually cracked the nut- Programs that run on the PC will run on the Phone- that's every program "app" out there designed with Windows code will work with it,

Bells. It was on live chat, but then after on the phone.
They do price match on pre orders - but you have to have an order in place. They did it live for me without me already having an order, but that was because they didn't forward the "chat" notes which I had a moan about.
Annoyingly the guy who took my order over the phone promised to forward the t&c which shows they do price match. That didn't turn up either. Luckily I do have case notes, so when I phoned back, it.was confirmed the Amazon price match was on my account and the girl added the new buymobiles.com match. I've no doubt it was done.

iOS and Android are paperweights compared to the capabilities of a full Windows PC. Since Mac's are prohibitively expensive...and app limited...Windows will always have a place.

Actually, you are wrong about at least one thing. The whole Android app paradigm has been ditched from Windows Mobile. The Android subsystem was causing serious issues with all of the Insider builds. They have therefore focused on the 'Islandwood' app bridge for iOS (which I personally am v.pleased about. Don't need the Android cludge in the Windows store!).
Also, x86 programs will not run on the phone. The only apps that will run in Continuum mode are those that are 'universal'. There should be a great many of these in the near future - but at the moment, there aren't that many of them.
I will be picking up a 950 in due course as I personally think the technologies in these phones are fantastic. Shame that the design is so bland!
Why don't you sign up for Insider Preview and test Windows 10 Mobile for yourself. The Insider Preview is now running the same software version as has been released on the 950/XL. & it is a huge improvement over 8.1 (which I was actually v.happy with).
I would personally never switch to Android. The only OS I would move to is iOS - and that is prohibitively expensive and bland!

I does have a problem with the mic though, seems a common problem. As MS give a 2 year warranty, i will get it fixed when i get the XL and use it as a backup for nights on the beer and out on the MTB.
Not sure why people feel the need to come onto a thread and tell people not to buy?? The XL trumps an iphone hardware wise, and i'm confident the new OS will work well eventually. I was on the W10 preview for PC's and they have been very quick to sort new releases and bug patches.

Still showing as ETA 12th on my pre-order- and the actual status has changed to "Arriving 12th" rather than expected.

I was initially very happy with it, especially for the money. But over time it's come to be incredibly frustrating. The camera doesn't focus and videos are worse - the focus just 'hunts' in-and-out all the time. The screen is unresponsive - I'll be typing a message and half the letters have been missed, so it's just a bunch of auto-corrected nonsense.
My Amazon order also says arriving 12th, whereas JL say within 14 days. :disappointed:

I have an email from Amazon saying the release date for the 950XL has "been changed by the supplier", its now 22 December :disappointed:

Just had first play with continuum. Not impressed. Very fee apps actually work with it.

To be fair, it is brand new tech, and these phones are the first to use it. Will take some time for devs to update their current apps to work with it. Shame MS tend to make early adopters Beta testers for them!
Good to see a new update is out already, they aren't sitting still with it.

Go to software update, should be one waiting. Downloading mine now. The preview testers had this last week. Now official for the 950's.

just an idea to those guys who have the 950 XL.... get a quote from CEX https://uk.webuy.com/ on selling it in to them. I worked for them many years ago and they would give premium prices for products prior to the release just to one of the first companies to have it. If they had a phone 12 days before its uk release that will retail at £529.. i am guessing they would pay around the £600 price mark for it. (then buy the phone new on the 22nd December again from Amazon or Carphone for £469)

I received my 950XL from Microsoft last week, updated the Lumina offers app and have now received my display dock on Thursday. Havent opened the box, looks ok, not too fussed about the dock .. yet.
Phone is great.. the camera is stunning. Upgradable memory and easily replaceable battery. My iphone 5s 64Gig is a DISTANT MEMORY.
Havent quite optimised the surface pro 4 - 950xl - band2 "all in" microsoft experience.. but that will come in time.
So far, pleased.. thanks Microsoft, and **** you Apple and Buymobiles.net.
Terrible customer service from BOTH companies. Good luck and merry xmas.

Am using my band with the phone and it works well. Text and emails coming via the band is cool, haven't got Cortana and phone operating with band, but am pleased with the interaction so far. Connected my phone to pc today for the first time and like the quick and easy way to move files from phone to pc and the reverse

Been using my 950xl for a wile and its seriously amazing had no problems as of yet too which is a bonus. That camera is crazy how perfect the photos come out even in the pitch black as my 920 wasnt too good with night time photos. Highly recommend it too anyone looking for a super fast and everything is customizable phone. (bit gimmicky but the eye scanner is pretty good haha)

You paid your contract off early so you can buy another phone????? Surely it would have made sense to buy a new phone anyway then?
TROLL!
Every couple of years Microsoft announce that the app issue will be getting better but unfortunately it never changes, they really need to devise some sort of app for running android applications like Bluestacks for PCs, then it will no longer be a problem...

Do you get the continuum dock for this? I thought that it is only for retailers listed on the MS store site...
Are buymobiles any good? Like to buy from somewhere that is easy to return to if i have a problem. Do we think the Continuum dock will be available if bough here??
Hoping as soon as they go on general release next week they will get more in and pricematch. 2nd Dec is when buymobiles are expecting to have them. Happy to wait a couple more weeks as reading the forums, the Yanks are having a few minor teething issue with software.
Anyway, soon the sorry saga will be behind me and I am looking forward to my 950XL whilst I throughly enjoy my Surface Pro 4. Good luck anyone buying from Buymobiles, you will need it.
http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/
I rung MS straight after and theyve agreed to honour buymobiles. Phone ships on the 3rd and MS have informed me the docks are limited to a first come first serve basis - so not only cheaper, I have a better chance of the dock. (If they didnt send that, I would return the phone)
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/how-citizens-advice-works/citizens-advice-consumer-work/the-consumer-rights-act-2015/
Every couple of years Microsoft announce that the app issue will be getting better but unfortunately it never changes, they really need to devise some sort of app for running android applications like Bluestacks for PCs, then it will no longer be a problem...
Well I am sorry fanboys, I own a Windows Phone and absolutely love the OS, but I most certainly am not deluded to realise that it is missing even in many areas a lot of HUKD members are passionate about...shopping and discount apps.
They have even allowed Andrioid app codes to run on the software. Says a lot for technological advances
1. Microsoft need to start chucking their money around to get more app support (or allow android applications)
2. The public need to buy more Windows phones so there is a decent sized user base.
It could happen......
Much rather deal with MS direct as they have a no hassles return policy
Guess if i don't open the box, if they don't pricematch at £446 i can return it.
I'm sure they will, but.if they don't I can call back with my "case reference" ,with the knowledge it's been recorded.
*Update: I rang Argos and even though their website does not state it is exempt from 14 days return - it is. So unless its faulty you buy it, you own it.
On the app thing, is there not some emulation software that will allow IOS apps to be installed?
I heard that Candy Crush was done using this, and this was a few months back on 8.1. Hoping it starts to explode once more W10 devices ship as it will work on the mobiles as well as PC's [and even Xbox One eventually].
Want to run the live roll out of windows 10 on my 1020, but looking forward to my 950XL. Am dissapointed the Dual Sim version isnt being released UK, but i can live without it.
Regarding Apps... personally never bothered me as apps i wanted tend to be available, that being said... Am frustrated that Sky, BT and Virgin do not offer apps for TV viewing via account on phone as have a great data deal on my phone sim....but struggle to use as i can't use viewing TV through phone outside standard territorial TV services
iOS and Android are paperweights compared to the capabilities of a full Windows PC. Since Mac's are prohibitively expensive...and app limited...Windows will always have a place.
As for Windows Mobile...who knows what the future holds. But I reckon a billion Windows 10 devices will compel developers to build universal apps. & when they do, 950 owners will be scooping up the goodies on their Continuum enabled phones!
Cheers op ordered this may as well give myself a wee upgrade since its close to Christmas and that
Cheers op ordered this may as well give myself a wee upgrade since its close to Christmas and that
Just pre-ordered with Microsoft at £529.99. Will ask them to price match with buymobiles @ £446.99 as soon as i get it. Went throigh TCB at 5% too, that would be nice if they paid out at £529!!
If they don't agree to refund the difference i will send it back. Seems MS are pretty good with returns, 30 days to send back if you don't like it!
Edit - TCB tracked at £22.30.
Deal heated for price.

No review for the 950XL yet tho.
Did they pricematch buymobiles @ £446.99??
Hearing conflicting reports that some people are being refused a pricematch. Mine will be sent straight back if they dont agree. Which agent did you speak to??
I think she said her name was Nina but I.will confirm.that when.she rings me back.
I ordered the doc last night too. I don't have a nano SIM so.needed to.nab one to open.the app to.create the order. You can't do it over WiFi - has to be using GSM.
Case and protector arrived today so will get the SIM.sorted tomorrow.
Shame the phone is currently at the local collection point as my Wife was doing the school run......gutted!! Wont get to play till i can get there after the kids go to bed
Hope you get it sooner!

Happy days!! Do like Windows10, been rock solid for me so far. Let's hope the devs start on more universal apps!
Got round to putting the sim in today. Happy so far, but I'm seeing the lack of apps as a problem but I do think W10 is going to take off.
I am at this moment just moving my stuff over to my Blu Win HD LTE. It seems to be a great phone so far...
Obviously not flagship kind of quality - but then again, it cost £50 delivered.
So yes, I'd be interested to know what issues you have been facing with it (to prepare myself!).
I will get the 950 in due course...but only when I can get it second hand. All of my previous Nokia flagships were bought from Gumtree - and I always save so much buying there.
Still showing as ETA 12th on my pre-order- and the actual status has changed to "Arriving 12th" rather than expected.
My Amazon order also says arriving 12th, whereas JL say within 14 days. :disappointed:
