It doesn't say anywhere on Vodafone's mobile site whether this is the 8GB model with 1GB of RAM or the 16GB model with 2GB of RAM. If it's the former, then the Smart Ultra 6 is a far better buy.

8GB internal memory is not enough. Bought the Mrs one of these when they were on CPW upgrade offer in August. Now she keeps running out of storage space on it. We have tried moving photos to the Micro SD card, uploading them to Google Drive, even got rid of Angry Birds2 yesterday still it keeps on giving warnings that it is running low on space. 8GB = big mistake. Once you have put all your life's memories on a smart phone in a few months, it is not easy to just lose everything and change the phone.
jazzuk777 to Razi
23 Dec 152#26
Sounds like you have too many large apps (or lots of music and video downloads from Play which can't be moved) - I've run with a Moto G for ages without issues. Big games can be a problem. You only need the onboard storage for (most, not all) apps and Play downloads - everything else can be on SD card. With a little housekeeping it should be fine.
EDIT: And with the imminent Marshmallow update you'll be able to use the SD card as if it was main storage - voila, problem gone!

Lanius to the wolf
23 Dec 15#35
The standard supports up to a theoretical 2TB so there's no reason why a 64gb and 128gb won't work. When the specs say they support "up to 32gb" all that really means is that that's the maximum size that they exhaustively tested it with to guarantee it.

For those concerned about the 8Gb, this phone will get the Android Marshmallow update which will allow the SD card to be used as internal memory. while the SD slot only supports 32Gb it will overcome most of the issues that a measly 8Gb internal storage present.
NOTE: once you've done this the SD card can't be removed and read by any other device. and you 'lose' the original 8Gb

As said here, I'm using 64gb card in a second generation Moto G without issue. Of course there might be implications with using it as adoptive storage in marshmallow that could mean 32gb does become the working maximum, but I wouldn't have thought so.

The Play will be £200 after Xmas again I should think and I'm really looking forward opening mine on Friday and finally getting to play with it. Still twice the price though. Arguably the entry level 3rd gen often falls between 2 stalls - only real reasons to get it are if you want the better camera (2nd gen is already quite good in my opinion) or the waterproofing, or longer firmware updates. Otherwise generally a 2nd gen is going to prove better value, although it will be much closer call if the 3rd gen is at £89 and won't be a bad choice. Tesco were clearing out 2nd gens at £69.50 in their phone shops but I expect they've all gone now.

The Ultra 6 also has 16gb storage compared to the Moto G 8 gb which is just as important IMO. Yes they both have a micro SD slot but quite a lot of android apps cannot be moved to a micro SD card and even those apps that can be moved always end up back on the internal storage every time there is an app update so have to be moved again each time. I have a Moto G (2nd gen) and although I like it, the constant juggling of apps, videos, etc is so irritating I would now go for the Ultra 6 with the bigger screen and more internal storage myself now. My son has the Ultra 6 and it is a very good value phone.

It's not all about storage though - they have different amounts of RAM too. The 8GB has 1GB of RAM where the 16GB has 2GB. A quick google suggests that 1GB is becoming a limitation. Eg How Much RAM does a phone need?

I have this phone, which I bought as a replacement for the second gen one (which was good, but sadly perished when I landed on it after tripping and flying into concrete at a full sprint and with a distinct lack of aerodynamic grace)
I have a handful of apps, and regularly have to delete some to allow space for updates. These are not large games, but banking apps, and a few utilities, along with a couple of small games. Everything possible has been moved onto my 64gb SD card.
The phone is laggy to the point where it's very difficult to scroll the web browser (the lag is so bad that scrolling gets interpreted as clicking on page elements - I've never had this problem with another phone, even going back to android 1.5). Hard resets and full reflashes have not helped.
The only thing this has going for it is that it's waterproof (though the screen can't be used whilst wet.)
This is a good price for this... object -though I suspect anyone would be better off with a Chinese off brand phone.
jazzuk777 to cheesemane
24 Dec 15#68
I can't see why'd you have run out of space given your description of what you have on. Sounds similar to me and I have 1.57GB of storage left (though I avoid some unnecessarily bulky apps like Facebook/FB Messenger and just add a shortcut to the mobile page on homescreen instead). Phone has been running absolutely fine except for this morning for some reason. Will do a cache partition wipe and see if that helps...

24 Dec 15#72
The reason why I went for this phone over one of the Chinese ones is it seems to cover most (if not all?) of the 3G/4G bands, whereas the Chinese models I looked at (Doogee, etc) didn't seem to support as many. This will be a secondary phone for me - for travel - so the spectrum support was more important than RAM or storage space (and I didn't want to spend the extra on the 16 GB model!).

Yeah I was surprised at running out of space, but with 8gb, most of it will be filled with the OS and bundled apps, and you need about 500mb empty to allow space for app updates to be downloaded before installing. Having to flush cached data continuously gets old too.
My new LG G4 has 10gb used of the 32gb before installing anything, though it admittedly has more bloat.
Frankly 8gb is ridiculous for an phone these days, and SD support doesn't make it less so, as many apps don't support it. Minimum should be 16gb for basic operation and apps.
houston26
24 Dec 15#82
Just for everyone commenting on sd card size, 32gb is the best to use, yes ones bigger will work but once you fill it more than 32gb you WILL notice issues with running apps, this isn't the phones fault but android itself since the changed the security for permissions on vanilla, hopefully marshmallow will fix this

jazzuk777
24 Dec 15#83
As I say I still have some headroom - some apps are ridiculously bulky, but the facebook and messenger apps are 2 bulky ones that can ignored for a svelter and more usable shortcut to the website. As for your overall issue, as noted a number of times here, Marshmallow will do away with the issue when it comes (should be very soon) as all apps will be able to be stored on the SD as M can treat the card as main storage..
