Here we have a lovely long weekend in Bologna, arriving on a Saturday morning and leaving on the Monday evening which will give you ample time to explore this amazing city. Climb the tower for stunning views of the city and wander through the Piazza. If you are a foodie then Bologna has some of the nicest Italian food I've ever tasted, not forgetting of course their Bolognese!
If you want to head further afield then for as little as €9 you catch the train to Venice in just over an hour or Florence in 35 minutes. Ideal if you want to see Venice on the cheap without paying for hotels in Venice. I did this when I first went to Venice before catching the overnight train to Vienna and it's cheap and easy to do, the trains were clean and efficient.
The hotel is right next to a bus stop and a short walk into the city but the bus is only €1 and the hotel has great reviews and includes breakfast for this bargain price. Alternatively you could hire a car as the hotel has free Parking too.
Flights for 2 €71.96 @ Ryanair
Hotel Inc WiFi and breakfast £51.96 @ Venere us code PREF12Q42015
Return bus from Airport is €12pp/£17.29
Total cost per person is £70.60pp

Good deal, the only thing I would like to say on your description that tickets train are not very often at that price usually you need to spend 30 euro for a "freccia" train single ticket for the chance to arrive I 1hour and 20mins to Venice..... 9euro tickets are very likely to be "interegionale" the slow trains about 2 hours and in a not convenient time..... And to be honest you do not have much time to spend in Italy, so just better spend the time that you have in Bologna .....

Yes I agree would be better to spend all the time in Bologna, just giving some options really. There are some decent fares on at the moment and you can get a return ticket for under €30 to Venice on the faster train. There are also some cheap €9 journeys knocking about too but that journey takes just under 2 hours. Link here

Fantastic city -one of my faves Italy. If you go make sure to climb the 96m Assinelli tower. It's worth the effort when you get to the top. Great deal and may take up this offer. Voted hot.

Good deal I love Bologna a true italian city not overwhelmed by tourists and I go to the same pizza restaurant every time I visit. Is streets ahead of anything you will get over here. Agree about going up the tower also. And if you are of a left wing political stance you are on a winner.
