Seems like a great deal in the run up to christmas. It is the 1gb model but for a 7 inch tablet with full windows and a year of office it seems a pretty good price. New as well!

Why are you not bothered??
The first poster is denied the credit for a good deal. I have had several good deals taken down for what appears to be rather dubious reasons, including 'a company based in an EU country'(the companies own website, not a dealer), which is rather strange given that Amazon is EU based.

The Linx Tablets come with a 1 year Office 365 subscription installed.
You can activate the subscription on another device, or even sell/gift the subscription to someone else by following the instructions below.
1) Run Office for the first time, it should take you to an activation webpage.
2) DO NOT SIGN IN. Copy the web address, you should see 5 sets of 5 capitalised alpha numerals in a string of 5, similar to the one below
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
3) THATS IT! Thats the code you'll need to activate on another device!

Just like the Nokia phones I am really impressed with these Microsoft tabletsand phones and I am not really a fan of Microsoft but it beats the memory limitations of my Android phone and tablets hands down - just so smooth , plays everything and easy to install stuff and manage , its like having an IPAD without the posh nob label...
I would personally go for the 8 inch version - it can be had for a tenner more!

does anyone get this with the tablet?
Tablet is on standby (screen off), try turn it on with On/Off button. back-light is on and visible but no background/login appears. can't swipe up or anything to login.
I tried shutting down manually with just the On/Off button but it doesn't shutdown(basically does nothing. however this showed the message with the option to swipe down to shutdown (background also visible).
had to reset the tablet by holding On/Off + Windows button for 10 seconds.
This a bug? it happens every now and then. but not always.Usually when I leave it standby for a long time.

i hope someone can help. i have no use for the office 365 subscription as i can get it elsewhere. i am looking to extract the key and following the instructions above.
looking at the code in the URL when i go to activate (didnt sign in) it's in the following format
XXXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
when the above instructions say it should be 5 lots of 5. XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Basically the first lot for me is 7 digits. I assume i discard the first 2 digits then my code begins from there?

Beware of return with this company and this device.
The unit I received proved to have a faulty screen straight out of the box and linx tech support told me to return it for a replacement... laptop outlet offered me the option of replacement or refund and to put a note in with my option - I opted for replacement but have just received a full refund.
I have called them directly and even though they have them in stock (as they are still selling them) they say they won't do anything but refund as it was an ebay deal. Would never use them again, very poor customer service.

hey, I found a workaround few days ago. It's a well known problem with windows tablet apparently and microsoft are too lazy to look into it.
Set the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\CSEnabled to 0. This will disable the sleep function and turn-off the display instead.
From there you will been able to change the advanced power settings like hard drive shut down timer, screen off timer and other additional settings. You have to change this registry key before this options show up.

Standard feature on the Linx 7. The Linx 8 and 10 resolved that problem. You will also have a mechanical hiss on the headphone port. Once again, a standard feature that was resolved by the 8 and 10 models

To answer the question about why Windows doesn't have a Youtube app, you have to look across the way to the **** at Google. They are behaving as Microsoft did 15 years ago....deliberately trying to stifle competition.
But this isn't really an issue. Metrotube does a better job of playing and downloading/caching Youtube videos than any of the official Youtube apps.
As for Skype - it has now been integrated into the Messaging app on the November update.
Baytrail tablets always take forever to charge when in use. This is a full x86 processor, being charged by 5V 1.5amp USB. The only way to charge it quickly is by dimming the screen (or ideally, switching the screen off entirely).
You get used to it.

Ah I see, well is it worth it to buy a screen protector for it? I've still got that 'peel off mask' protector on since I'm scared I would damage the screen.
Will definitely need a case though.
Did what you said and updated to Windows 10, much better now. everything seems more user friendly. Haven't got Cortana up and running yet, should I? I hear it collects/tracks your privacy, even when privacy settings are turned off.
The reason I was unhappy about Windows app store was that I was searching for the Official Youtube app for like 5mins, then researching and realizing there wasn't any. Instead I had to download 'Hyper for Youtube' which did what I needed. I didn't think I'd have to resort to 3rd party apps for this. Why haven't they got Youtube?
I have the Skype app on my windows 8.1 laptop (rarely use this since I have a PC), but I cannot find it anymore on the app store. Did they remove it? the one on the app store ('Get Skype') forced me to install a desktop version. :disappointed:
Anyways, I was basically configuring the tablet for the parents to use and to minimize the problems they could encounter. So making it as simple as possible was my goal. Accessing Youtube and skype etc. Yet it took more effort than expected. Just bad luck I guess..
About the battery, it takes forever to charge, barely gets 1% when charging and in-use...and this is browsing the app store...

Heads up Amazon also have this for £40. I just ordered another one but from Amazon so I can get it next day via Prime.
I bought it last Thursday before I saw it posted on this site. I asked to be delivered to Argos, got it Monday. When they dropped the price, they had just sold over ten thousand in a year. Since Thrusday, they've sold another 7,000+.
The seller seems reputable, just high demands.. Anyway paypal/ebay/bank protection are there. I think it was posted from Essex somewhere. Probably overwhelming the local post office too. I'd say people who bought on the weekend or before, should get it within 48 hours. Since he's sold another few thousands since Monday.
P.S. I got dispatched status by ebay email Monday noon and it had already arrived at Argos too. First time ever happened like that. Think he's overwhelmed and sending dispatch notifications late. At one point during weekend he was charging £15 for Argos delivery, probably too much admin work.

Speaker on this is tiny but not too bad. My download of win10 was about half an hour, not bad, also from next room to router. to adjust brightness in windows 10, control panel display seems not showing, instead:
set to tablet mode to OFF (desktop is much better anyway). Settings: Systems: Tablet Mode
swipe from right edge in
choose: All Settings
System (top)
Display (top)
Brightness gauge is at bottom, low is good at night and for battery
You can long press on display, pin to start. Then drag to desktop which gives quick access to the correct section for it.
for a quick 4 step ONLY control (25 percent), click battery icon on system tray bar at bottom. Or swipe in from right, click on expand just above 'All Settings'. Below it click on sun icon below. The top method gives detailed control, not just 4 levels.
Also swiping you'll see screen rotation lock on / off.

People upgrading to win10 should not click on 'get ms office' but click on ms office icon to start 365 days version. Win10 is working good as on my higher spec dual os tab. Just tested my linx 7. Can confirm there is a low level buzzing interference noise when my earphone plugs into the headphone jack as lots of people previously raised. To me it seems only one side is affected (you can tell by the buzzing sound emitted from right channel when the connection end is loosely plugged in and then from the left channel when fully plugged in.
It's a nice tablet so far, screen is not as bad as what other people said. It's better than my previous android tablet at least.

Added shortcut for display settings to desktop, in control panel then click & hold to create shortcut
Menus in left panel, set display from smaller to 125% medium, then tablet becomes usable
Can also set auto rotate on/off
Installed Maxthon Browser (chrome engine) as on my laptops & android, since it's fastest, works well on linx too
Installed TouchMousePointer for few times detailed operations are necessary
Installed classic shell button to have Windows 7 start button, will update to Windows 10 this weekend
Put shortcut of Intel hd graphics from control panel on desktop too
Desktop set to black to save battery and eyes
Installed winamp radio for hundreds of thousands of radio stations & streams, imported my favourites from laptop
At login, clicked bottom left icon, changed ease of access style to hard contrast. Basically gives the black theme which is highly desirable (difficult) on Windows 7 etc. Folders etc have the chic pro look of black background.
The only thing needs fixing is the tv screen is not full screen, some say turn off over scan but not in my tv menus.
Ordered the only usb hub reported to charge and run device simultaneously for under £3 on eBay.

No, it doesn't. It just has a bit of a grainy screen coating (which cannot be removed). This has always been the case with the 7. The Linx 8 has a much better screen by comparison.
& yes, it is absolutely worth updating to Windows 10. For one thing, you get a myriad of excellent Microsoft apps that make the 8.1 apps look like intern projects .
By the way, what apps are you unhappy with? I can probably advise of some good alternatives for most things...

Windows 10 has a full and unrestricted web browser. The Fire 7 will not stream flash content (or silverlight).
On browsing alone, the Linx would be the better option. Plenty of nice Youtube apps on the Windows store - and there is also a number of touch friendly PDF apps as well.
If you don't have a big need for apps, then the Linx will serve you very well. & of course, with the use of a bluetooth mouse/keyboard and a HDMI cable, you have a full Windows 10 computer....with full/free versions of Word/Excel/Powerpoint.

I have bought one of these, like a lot of IT purchases I'm not quite sure why I need it, but it is too cheap at under £40 not to get. Yep. You can add 4 years worth - at which point, take out a month subscription to 365 Home on Office.com (then cancel the sub).
You will then have 4 years of Office 365 Home, giving Office 2016 + 60 Skype minute per month + 1TB OneDrive for 5 users.
No cheaper way to get an excellent amount of cloud storage - and of course the best Office suite.

Yes and no respectively.
You can use Magical Jelly Bean to find out the key but it'll be tied to the CPU serial on the tablet.

Yes you can, thats exactly what I have done with mine. You dont really need a keyboard as has on screen keyboard but a bluetooth mouse or wireless usb one is good. It only has one usb port so you cant charge it and use the wireless usb for mouse/keyboard etc. Which is why its better just get bluetooth controller I have one of those mini remotes with keyboard on it via bluetooth. You raise a very fair point. People may ask why you care but everyone would like to be credited for the time they spent sharing the deal, especially when HUKD get the cash for it. Not to mention many think if you've never posted a hot deal that you shouldn't have an opinion on this site. You might think you sound petty but I say credit where credits due. Probably so that HUKD can put a proper affiliate link that'll bring em more dollars... In any case my credit goes to you, not the tool whose messing about.

Essentially it's thew app store. Google Android store has more apps than Microsoft's, so if your children like to have the latest and greatest apps (but don't have an ipad) the Android is a better choice.
Windows has all the main apps - your social networking, banking, movie apps, popular games etc, but it has fewer overall, and tends to get them later than Apple or Android.
Also, Android allows you to download unathorised apps from the internet, windows does not. That's my biggest issue with Windows.
Hope that helps.

Great price - I got a refurb Connect 7 (Linx 7) clone a few weeks back at £5 cheaper, but the extra fiver is great for New AND Office 365 - though is the offer still running? On the tablet I got it said the offer had expired, NOT redeemed (as I understand it):
Here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2987493 it says "When you purchase a new device that comes with an offer to redeem a subscription or Office, there is a limited amount of time for you to redeem the offer. Your limited time starts when you activate Windows. When you launch Office, you will be shown the last date to redeem the offer. If you don't redeem by this date, the next time you launch Office you will receive the message that the offer has expired."

I would personally go for the 8 inch version - it can be had for a tenner more!
This a bug? it happens every now and then. but not always.Usually when I leave it standby for a long time.
looking at the code in the URL when i go to activate (didnt sign in) it's in the following format
XXXXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
when the above instructions say it should be 5 lots of 5. XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Basically the first lot for me is 7 digits. I assume i discard the first 2 digits then my code begins from there?
thanks
The unit I received proved to have a faulty screen straight out of the box and linx tech support told me to return it for a replacement... laptop outlet offered me the option of replacement or refund and to put a note in with my option - I opted for replacement but have just received a full refund.
I have called them directly and even though they have them in stock (as they are still selling them) they say they won't do anything but refund as it was an ebay deal. Would never use them again, very poor customer service.

(These things have been mentioned throughout this thread...so for most people, it won't be a surprise)

Just sold off the office key for £24, used £20 worth nectar card points from initial purchase so essentially get the tablet for free
There are loads on ebay. But most of them have really poor worded English.

Also any suggestion's on how to improve the wifi? I have connected this up to my TV and it is working really well. Only small issue I am having is download speed. It is a tad to slow am upgrading to Windows 10 at the moment and has downloaded 650mb in just under 50 minutes.
My router is in the next room (Superhub 2ac). Can I somehow connect this to another device and share the internet with that? For example my TV is a smart TV and this is connected via homeplug. Can I connect this tablet wifi to the TV and share the TV internet connection?
set to tablet mode to OFF (desktop is much better anyway).
I still don't knw if we have to start the office trial period to get url with the key? Does anyone know?
Just upgraded to win10, windows.old folder is about 11 gig, can't wait to delete it, maybe tomorrow. People upgrading to win10 should not click on 'get ms office' but click on ms office icon to start 365 days version. Win10 is working good as on my higher spec dual os tab. If you had classic_shell start button in win8.x, uninstall it after upgrade to win10 and reboot.
It's a nice tablet so far, screen is not as bad as what other people said. It's better than my previous android tablet at least.
On Adobe website state it should.
Could someone confirm?
Thanks
Right now I have it downloading Windows 10. When I get back home tonight, I'll see if I can extract the office key. Apparently if linked to an msn account already, it's not included in the URL. Folks in the linx forum thread on it also having problems extracting keys now.
Thanks again.
Ordered the only usb hub reported to charge and run device simultaneously for under £3 on eBay.
and its probably answered but is it worth the upgrade to windows 10? or sticking at 8.1. I skimmed through the thread a while back and saw people have problems with windows 10.
this is my first tablet and I'm not very happy with windows app store, its so....limited. :disappointed:
& yes, it is absolutely worth updating to Windows 10. For one thing, you get a myriad of excellent Microsoft apps that make the 8.1 apps look like intern projects .
By the way, what apps are you unhappy with? I can probably advise of some good alternatives for most things...
(Get yourself updated to Windows 10 - then talk to me after you've seen what a proper version of Windows can do  )
usage will be reading mainly pdf's , web browsing, YouTube etc
On browsing alone, the Linx would be the better option. Plenty of nice Youtube apps on the Windows store - and there is also a number of touch friendly PDF apps as well.
If you don't have a big need for apps, then the Linx will serve you very well. & of course, with the use of a bluetooth mouse/keyboard and a HDMI cable, you have a full Windows 10 computer....with full/free versions of Word/Excel/Powerpoint.
I know which I would choose
Indirectly = a fat YES!.
Try, eg. Bluestacks, AMIDuOS, WindowsAndroid, &/or download Google's Android SDK for the task, & take it from there, etc? (amongst various methods ..... ) :-)

Srsly though, it had 5 stuck pixels within a week, I wish I did sell it.
p.s. got it.
You will then have 4 years of Office 365 Home, giving Office 2016 + 60 Skype minute per month + 1TB OneDrive for 5 users.
No cheaper way to get an excellent amount of cloud storage - and of course the best Office suite.
(I bought this deal from this store last year - aside from delayed delivery, the process was all good. I definitely recommend them).
Bought :man:

You can use Magical Jelly Bean to find out the key but it'll be tied to the CPU serial on the tablet.
On the upside, if you need to rebuild it with a generic Windows 10 disc, Windows will check after installation, find your key and automatically activate
Can I use it year by year on my laptop or they expire after 6 months for example. Thanks btw

(You just need a USB OTG cable to attach full size pen drives etc)
1. This or Amazon Fire 7?
2. Can Android be installed on this tablet? I am coming from Windows, so was hoping to give Android a go.
Can't justify keeping a Fire 7 and this :stuck_out_tongue:
at £39.99 a piece that's a cool £622,644.30
I bought 4 years worth this time last year, and did the Office 365 Home (5 user) conversion trick. 4 years of 365 Home for under £80 .
You will get at least £30 for each licence.
(Both of these issues were prevalent last year - and both issues were resolved by the Linx :sunglasses:.
//edit ordered despite not being able to run linux on it. Virtualbox will have to do I guess :/

Subscription offers on these tablets are limited until March 2016, so you have plenty of time and it comes with a free upgrade to Windows 10 which makes the tablet even faster than it was before.
One has just sold on ebay for £30.
Edit: Never mind I see under the title it says free windows 10 upgrade.
I have a snake camera that won't work on android, even with apps that say they do!
Not looking to argue, just a genuine question.
Bonus.

Could anyone tell me how old, 2008-ish Source games run on this? Left 4 Dead in particular?
Thanks.
It really should be one set of rules for everyone. And this, as it stands, isn't.
The first poster is denied the credit for a good deal. I have had several good deals taken down for what appears to be rather dubious reasons, including 'a company based in an EU country'(the companies own website, not a dealer), which is rather strange given that Amazon is EU based.

Dear HUKD users,
Why you so bothered?
Sincerely oUkTuRkEyIII
I have seen the link below but can't see it because you need to be registered.
