Is 1gb of ram enough to run all types of apps these days? I am tempted to buy as an xmas present for son but don't want him to be limited in what apps will work

not really, depending on the apps you open up at the same time it can struggle

No. With maybe the exception of the original nexus which handles it's ram extremely well for some reason

I ordered one at about 5.30. Just had an email to say it is out of stock and they will send when they receive further stock, if it's within 14 days, so I'm not sure how I stand.

waited all day to go check this out at John Lewis, liked it, but it was it out of stock in store and online. Curse my horrible luck!!

I have an Asus Memo Pad HD 7 that I bought for the same price from Tesco Direct in April and the microsd card slot broke. After a lot of faff which involved Asus making things very difficult, Tesco have agreed to refund me (no replacement available). This tablet seems quite similar, just slightly bigger and less ppi. Do people think it's a good replacement? I am looking for an Android tablet to watch TV shows on the go. Thanks.
I have the HD7 and I am after a replacement. The digitiser is on its way out again after having already been fixed once under warranty by Asus.

In theory, I've bought one; however, the webpage keeps swapping between listing it as being in-stock (more than 10) and being out-of-stock. Is something broken, or are they just releasing them in batches?

Will all apps work by themselves aslong as you dont have too much running in the background, or are there certain apps that would not be compatible with 1gb ram?

How does this compare to the LG pad 8.3 ?. I have one of those & rest of family taken shine so if this is same/near spec would be bargain to get my own tab back!

It gets good reviews on the JL website. This tablet is exclusive to John Lewis.
The Lg Gpad 8.3 is superior to the 8.0 - Full HD screen and Snapdragon 600 SOC compared to 1280*800 and Snapdragon 400 in the 8.0. I picked up the 8.3 a while ago in a Tesco deal and have Cyanogenmod on it, works flawlessly and still is my go-to tablet.

Many people won't have even opened their new Lenovo 8" boxes yet, so it's a perfectly valid question. I also wonder if this is worth the extra £20. It's got an extra years warranty and probably similar performance..
Edit. Good review here. In summary, the LG has better battery life than the Lenovo A8-50 (which is also quite good) but not quite as good quality screen
People on HUKD need to move on. That ship sailed long time ago.

This or a Nexus 7? Nexus 7 looks better CPU and more RAM...

As someone else mentioned, is this better than the Lenovo that was £50 at Argos? I have the Lenovo but want the best tablet for my daughter for Xmas.

Laptop Outlet are currently selling it on ebay at £99.99, so it's not exclusive to JL, but the JL price is the cheapest it's ever been.

Maybe now, but it has definitely been sold by rakuten, laptops direct and others in the past. A quick search on hotukd brings up a number of old deals for lg gpad 8

Forgot to say I got this when it was on hotukdeals in summer for about £74. Can't remember who from, laptops direct I think. Still, good price now.

JL state this is exclusive to them.

I've got both the 8 and the 8.3. Both great tablets. 8.3 is definitely more snappy and is still a very good tablet with a great screen. 8 is a slightly lower spec tab all round but still good. It has very good battery life. Great tablet for the kids, especially for watching videos on long car journeys.

I was just about to post that this was over £100 a couple of months ago and that the 7" version is £109.95 so I suspected that it was a Black Friday deal. JL's website has been updated and this is now listed as a Black Friday deal -
