Its worth noting that not everything you install can be installed on a microsd by default.

But for most people it's pointless. You can't easily move complete apps over to the SD card, only parts of them.
As an Android developer I'd recommend 16GB as the minimum. You may get away with 8GB though only if you don't plan on installing many apps.
