Great for the price but the CPU is based off an Atom (Baytrail) as opposed to usual desktop/laptop chips, so won't perform as well. Consider it similar to Windows tablets, so okay for general tasks but not very future proof. Then again, what are people expecting for £150!? :-)
Indeed. £150 is great for the spec and although the HDD will be a bottleneck, SSDs are getting cheaper. I'll leave it as is - it's more than enough for the kids to learn on.

Well done, to all those who got one.....bought this machine for my son, but returned it due to lack of performance. Fantastic machine for browsing & watching films but as soon as you open a couple of other applications together (eg Word and Powerpoint), it becomes sooooooooo slow (even after I removed Bloatware, optimised etc).
But then again, what else would you expect for £150.

There is currently an issue with UK users being unable to switch Cortana on, even though Microsoft says Cortana is available in the UK. To solve this, search for "Region & Language Settings" and change your region to United States.

multiplewicked to Crapweasel
27 Nov 151#76
The cpu should be plenty enough for photoshop use, quad core intel architecture. If I were you though, id upgrade the ram to 8gb which would cost about £20 if you can install it yourself (its a 30 second job).
The screen resolution isnt really ideal for photoshop use, but will work ok.

Received and just spent the last hour uninstalling all the bloat. After that, it runs fine. Granted it's not super-quick (HDD slows things up a bit) and a bit hefty to lug around but it's perfectly usable at home. With one RAM slot free and cheap SSDs this can be given a fairly big bump for not much.
My daily machine is an i7 HP Spectre ultrabook which was 6x the price but I could get along on this if I really wanted to. Great value for £150 - just debloat it and see.
Edit: forgot to say once I removed all the bloat, it was using 1.3gb/4gb after a clean boot on Win 8.1. That's a decent amount free (the low screen res saves a fair bit here).
Not upgraded to Win 10 yet as I plan on getting it set up with the essentials. Then, use Lenovo OneKey recovery, which works really well, to back up the install as an image. If Win 10 doesn't work out, it's a one click restore to the 8.1 image backup in 10-15 minutes.
bhunterno1 to dealmeup
28 Nov 15#94
Are you able to walk me through how to de-bloat the laptop please?
dealmeup
29 Nov 152#95
Basically use the Control Panel > Uninstall Programs to uninstall most Lenovo stuff and everything with a shortcut on the desktop (PowerDVD director, Nitro, etc).
I left Lenovo dependency and OneKey recovery but that's about it.
Make sure you get rid of Super Fish which is spyware. There's also some Metro App equivalents that I uninstalled as well.
EDIT: contrary to a previous post I made, this laptop has only ONE slot. There were conflicting reports so I opened it up to confirm. However, you can get 1 x 8GB DDR3L if you want to bump up the spec for £25-30. Verified with Crucial as well: http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Lenovo/lenovo-g50-30

FWIW Win 8.1 booted with 1.3gb used vs Win 1.5gb so RAM seems fine unless you're planning on going heavy multitasking. Both seem the same doing similar tasks around the OS - not much performance difference between Win 8.1 (debloated and updated) and Win 10. The HDD predictably is a bit lazy at times but nothing major.
I've got both backed up at this point but I'm gonna stick with Win 10 and see how it goes.

Wow, picked this up today & I've gotta say - I know it was 'cheap' as far as laptops go, but I'm so underwhelmed that I find it hard to believe people enjoy using it now, let alone at the higher price point it normally retails for!
The optimum viewing angle is ridiculously narrow, the colours seem severely non-vibrant and patchy depending on where on the screen you're looking, and you can practically pick out the pixels that make up characters.
The set up takes forever (at least 20 minutes, or so it seemed), without any kind of progress bar to indicate where you're at in the process. They do give you this fabulous(ly annoying) colour-changing disco screen however, to get you in the party mood for the entirety of this set up..
Also, not being able to sign out of Outlook once you've set it up with your account details seems a bit of a security disaster.
I hate the thing, looking at it makes me feel like I'm using some ancient relic from many years ago (okay, it doesn't weigh >2kg, but visually the screen is so atrocious it genuinely angers me).
I kind of hate to say it, but my Kindle Fire provides a much better user experience!
£150 it may have been, but I'd rather send it back & buy £150 worth of real potatoes than have this spud sitting on my desk for any longer. [Or, you know, put the money towards a better laptop].
