It's up cheaper than Zavvi, and Amazon

(If you used Welcome on the Zavvi order there are chances of it being cancelled due to their promo code conditions)

and If you use GAME there's a high chance you'll get charged into bankruptcy.

FWIW, I've never had a single order go wrong with zavvi, even with my constant abuse of the WELCOME code. On the other hand, GAME has failed to supply pre-order bonuses three times, cancelled my order twice, and charged me 5 times for super Mario maker.

I think I'll take my chances with Zavvi thank you very much.

Nice price, but I'll stick with my slightly dearer Amazon order. I don't trust GAME at all after the crap they have pulled with the last few special editions of games, and at least I have Amazon Prime I suppose.

People complain about Zavvi (not had any issues with them in the past) but I've seen A LOT of super **** off GAME customers on Twitter. Those really lost their temper with GAME.

Anyway, I pre-ordered it from Amazon and will be getting the game for a total of £35.52 (bought £30 voucher, got £7 voucher free and had a £5 free too). If only Amazon decreased the price to £44.99 would be even better!

EDIT: Here's the pic @ http://images.eurogamer.net/2013/articles/1/7/9/2/4/8/9/fallout-4-fans-furious-as-game-cancels-pip-boy-edition-pre-orders-14468123576.png

Y'know, they should have been actually grateful GAME cancelled it for them because the Pip-Boy is just an overpriced and oversized McDonald's Happy Meal toy.

Personally never had a problem with Game... then again their distribution centre in Basingstoke is very close to me so stuff arrives real fast.

Is the Wii u region locked?
MadonnaProject to teh arn
7 Dec 15 1 #11
Region locked and gamesave locked. So if you have two, you can't play your save from one onto the other.

Oh and on a side note also if you have anything pre-downloaded onto one console and you link it to your nintendo ID, you still cannot take it to the new console if your old one dies.
Gamer_U to teh arn

Yes. And the GamePad is region locked, FYI.

With the new Nintendo online system coming in March 2016 it seems things are going to change for the better.

I will never buy anything from Game ever again. I haven't for the last ten years. This company needs to die as soon as possible so they can stop damaging the games industry with their practices. Game's pre-owned business is 10000x more damaging than piracy ever wishes it could be.

PS buying pre-owned games is no different than piracy. Except instead of not paying anything you're giving money to the biggest crook of them all, GAME.
SVRich to CABellamy
7 Dec 15 #38
Disagree with you there, the used market is nowhere near as damaging to the industry as piracy. Every used copy of a game was once a new game, one game can be copied an unlimited number of times in the case of piracy. Many people, myself included, trade in against new games so some of the money (as well as extra money) goes straight back into the industry. I guess if you split the industry into console/pc it seems worse as piracy is mainly a PC issue and the used market is console.

If stores like Game and Gamestop were such a problem why do publishers suck up to them buy giving the exclusive editions like the Pip Boy fallout 4 and dlc etc? Why don't digital prices on the consoles undercut the stores? Fact is they are still needed to sell consoles and games, whatever damage people think the used industry does Game and it's like are still needed by the industry.
Gamer_U
7 Dec 15 #22
Yes it is. Buying a used game entitles the user to own a legal licence to play the game whereas pirating you don't.
Waveset
7 Dec 15 #23
Don't be ridiculous, you're purchasing a legal copy of the game and not breaching any copyright laws. Like it or not, Game is part of the games industry therefore you're money's going to support it.
Corranga
7 Dec 15 1 #24
It's not quite as ridiculous as you make out. The point is that none of your money goes to the developer / publisher / console manufacturer etc. with a used sale from GAME, which, from a creators perspective means that it is identical to piracy - they earn nothing from it. Also, GAME aren't part of the games industry, they are part of the retail industry! Of course, buying the game new from GAME does support the games industry...
I guess the problem is that someone who actually goes in store to buy a game may well pick up a used copy for £5 or less or so saving (which in my opinion is criminal in itself!) with virtually all profit going to GAME.

Of course by that argument, you'd have to avoid buying anything on eBay, Amazon and anywhere else that sells used games, or allows them to be traded in (which obviously leads to a sale somewhere down the line!)

Personally, I think you have to make a choice and order the item where your priorities are.

I ordered from Amazon as I think they are more reliable, it doesn't cost much more, and hopefully they will reduce prior to shipping - but then they still accept trade-ins of games, and also don't pay full corporation tax in the UK. The question is, do I feel guilty?
unreality
7 Dec 15 2 #25
Amazon stopped accepting trade-ins of any sort, so you can feel slightly less so!
markythestud
7 Dec 15 1 #26
I'm sticking with Amazon for the following reaons.

1. If the price drops even soon after launch Amazon will honour it and refund the difference. Zavvi and Game do not.

2. Game failed to deliver games to me on launch day too many times. Amazon have the benefit of their own delivery service which is reliable.

3. Games payment system isnt the best. They have had too many screw ups recently. Failing to charge people and cancelling preorders and also charging pre orders multiple times.

4. If I place an order with Game I'm never certain if I will receive it.
Gamer_U to markythestud
7 Dec 15 #29
If the outer box comes damaged or whatever they'll also give a partial refund if the customer is that picky about it.
Waveset
7 Dec 15 #27
Yep, financially I know what the point is but to say it's the same as piracy is still ridiculous.
Game retailers are part of the games industry, trying to wall them off in another sector is just silly. Game publishers and hardware manufacturers rely on them to get their product onto the highstreet and onwards to the consumer, hence exclusives and pre-ordering.

7 Dec 15 #31
I don't mind Game. Never really had a problem other than the odd tardy staff member but you get that everywhere.

I get the point about second hand games, but they'd still exist other places, and people would just be buying them off Ebay and classifieds. The second hand market is flourishing due to the lack of longevity offered in games, not vice versa. Top J-RPGs and titles that are supported well after launch with reasonably priced expansions (not content cut from the original game) tend to be rarer on the trade in shelves for a reason.

I like that I have the option of whether to support a developer / publisher with my trade, and still play what I want. If I pick up Battlefront, for instance, it won't be new.

I know the Wii had its issues with home brew and piracy but this method, on top of the poorly designed digital system they have in place is just asking for hackers to come and open up your system.

2nd worst Zelda ever. As a standalone adventure game, very, VERY good...but compared with other games in the Zelda canon it falls short. I say this as a huge Nintendo/Zelda fan - having played every game in the series (thus far).
MadonnaProject
7 Dec 15 #42
I wish they would but I don't think hackers are so inclined anymore, plus most have beenm bought off by the companies. Also in terms of the wii u, the userbase is not large enough for it to be of any benefit to the hackers. Hackers initially designed exploits and utilised modchips which netted them huge profits in the eastern and asian markets, and even here but that is just not viable for them anymore. I mean look at how expensive the carts for the 3ds are, not to mention apparently people can't even order them in the uk legally, even paypal has banned them. We are all slaves to the corporations, and that's blah blah blah normal but some people are willing slaves to companies like apple and nintendo and that is always amusing to see.

Going with GAME. I am aware loads of people have had issues, but i never have. I am hoping the bad press has made them wise up. 2 reasons I am going with them is that they pack their items really well, had too many special editions arrived all bumped and bruised. And also It is likely with GAME that closer to the release they will announce some kind of preorder bonus.
PLEYOR
8 Dec 15 #45
They've already hacked the Wii U to play 'backups' and have a big time hack under developement that will allow full control over the system.

Nintendo annoyed me with the Wii U, Nintendo hid away the ability to play GameCube games on that system. Yet it's taken hackers to uncover and unlock that, for me that is a system seller. Nintendo haven't done anything with it either?!

Amongst over things, the above is a massive missed opportunity, Nintendo are so far behind the times. I will be avoiding their next console tbh.
CABellamy
8 Dec 15 #46
And you can't sell one copy of a game an unlimited number of times? There is no limitation on how many times a game can be sold unless it is a one-shot CD-Key. Each time you buy a used game, more money goes into the pocket of the store and not into the pockets of developers. How is it any different?
SVRich
8 Dec 15 #47
Well in theory but realistically unlikely. The used market allows people to buy more games buy using their credit against new games, Game give me £25 trade in and then sell the game for £35 say, sure the dev of that game doesn't see anything from it but Game don't get £35 profit. The credit I got goes back into the industry, maybe a different dev but still into the industry, with piracy nothing goes back into the industry.

There have been loads of game I have bought that if it wasn't for the ability to sell/trade I never would have taken a punt on, the prospect of putting £40odd on a game you may not like with no way of getting anything back is not appealing to me.

I understand the argument and a lot of the time it is cheaper to by new online than used at Game which is why I rarely do it but as I said before the industry still needs stores like Game and Gamestop to sell consoles and in terms of console games a significant number are still bought in stores, like I said publishers wouldn't suck up to them otherwise and they would be happy to undercut them digitally.

The used games market isn't 10,000x worse than piracy for the industry but unlike piracy it does generate revenue. I'm not saying it is necessarily good for the industry but it is not imo worse than piracy.
Corranga
9 Dec 15 #48
Amazon have price matched for those of you wanting to avoid GAME

I understand what you are saying, but every time you trade in a game, in your case, 1 new game is sold, and 1 used game goes on the shelf which will be sold to someone else, potentially taking away a new sale.
You only have to walk into a GAME store and look at how much shelf space is dedicated to used items, to see that they are pushed harder than new ones. I don't know what the new to old ratio is sales wise in GAME, but I'd imagine there are more people trading in used and buying used, than doing as you do - which is echoed by the number of new vs. used items available in the store.

As for the industry needing these shops, I don't think that's true. Even when GAME were on the brink of going under, and in administration in 2012, the publishers didn't keep sending them stock in lieu of payment. They made no take over bids. GAME were toast. There was then an opportunity for the new owners (who I think were the owners of Comet which went under about 6 months later?) to turn things around.
What we got was more pre-owned sales push, a move into used mobiles, and the same old crap customer services, cancelled orders and over-priced games we all hated online. At least they stopped writing in black marker on rare games, whilst still charging collectors prices for them..

Should GAME exist, well, I don't really know. My local high street has a GAME and an Argos where you can buy games. There is a HMV as well, but their selection is pitiful. There are supermarkets, and Toys R Us, and that's it.
I buy solely online, but then I know a thing or 2 about games, so don't need the in store hand-holding or pressure, or over pricing! Do I buy from GAME online, sure, when the item is cheaper and doesn't need to be well packaged (or not cancelled!)
SVRich
9 Dec 15 #49
Publishers were never going to buy Game out when they were struggling and they were weary about sending stock because if Game did go under that stock would be considered an asset of Game and the publishers/distributors would be very unlikely to get anything for them as they would be way down the creditor list. Fact is if they were so bad then distributors/publishers wouldn't supply them with stock, they wouldn't give them exclusive DLC and editions of games. Game, like it or not still make money for the industry. If publishers really wanted to try and harm the used industry then they would make digital distribution realistically priced for consoles.

Don't get me wrong, Game have a lot of issues and I'm not saying it doesn't take some money from devs but it is not worse than piracy imo. CEX it could be argued is as nothing it does brings in money to the industry. Ultimately though as Game makes next to nothing from new sales it needs the used market to survive and while people like us buy online a lot of people don't and with quite a few supermarkets reducing their games sections in smaller branches that could leave areas like my local shopping area with nowhere to by games aside from CEX.
