no staff are up at this time, they not paid near enough to update in real time booze deals

So why all the questions about Scotland? If I'd have said we're actually a United Kingdom I'd still be accused of my agenda hohum
Though you'll find the nationalist socialist SNP do want to really clamp down on drinking in Scotland, higher taxes on stronger volume beers and the like.

Have you worked out how much of a loss leader this is?
£15 minus VAT = £12.50
Duty = £27.66 per litre of pure alcohol. So 40% of £27.66 = £11.06
£12.50-£11.06= £1.44!

It's way superior to Gordons. Bombay Saphire is 40% proof as opposed to Gordons 37.5%. After tasting Bombay, you'll give up on crappy supermaket branded gin, that's for sure. Sadly it's a premium gin, that commands a premium price, when it's not on special offer :-(

Perhaps I should explain myself a bit here, merely a case of I'm marooned in Austria and earlier today I was listening to some SNP pleb MEP on FM Vier I think it was saying Austria shows a bad example to Europe with low taxes on alcohol and then he went off on some tangent about Stroh Rum. Like saying the strongest one should have an 80% tax hmmmm I assume that's a figure he just grabbed out of the air because it's 80% volume then :man:
According to him Westminster is dancing to the SNP tune when it comes to tackling the menace of binge drinking and spirits will be far more taxed very soon, superamarkets will not be allowed to do special offers on any alcohol bla bla bla, Oh and Brussels should of course go along with SNP policies on this too, nothing like self important delusions of grandeur then.
Hence I said that what I initially did about Eck and the midget, nothing quite like the nanny state to go in to ful swing for socialists, sorry nationalist socialists, to start rubbing their hands with glee about outrageous taxation

Jack D is around €16 a bottle over here, all the supermarkets do 25% off all spirits events probably monthly so you can get it for for around €12 a go which is like 8 quid.
The simple maths tells you two bottles equals 1.4 litres which sets you back about 16 quid.
Hmmm it's hardly a fine Cognac so it's cheap as chips anyway, is this really such top deal?
Sorry to be a killjoy but I'm not getting this mental hysteria that has dragged on all day now. Like it's a pony septic whiskey with mega branding rather than an exquisite tipple of quality without a global logo :man: you can get scores of better whiskeys in Scotland and across the water in Ireland, hundreds in fact.
You get what you pay for and with Jack D you don't even get that because you're merely paying for the marketing #justsaying

I totally echo your sentiments but do people really like this drink or do they like it because it's a big name brand with some kind of social acceptance status?
I'd also put it in there that many of these people, the majority of them in fact, will mix it with some form of carbonated coloured water brimming with sugar. Sorry but in my book you might as well just l buy a three quid bottle of General Lee bourbon off Del Boy because you're not even tasting, never mind enjoying, what you're drinking by mixing it with pop.
I absolutely hate all vodka bar the Polski bison grass variety but if I have one I wouldn't dream of mixing it with Coke or Red Bull or Almdudler or whatever. You can't taste what they've distilled by mixing with tat, you just can't

 so you totally echo my sentiments regarding It depends on what people like, everyones tastes are different. but then go on to slam them for mixing it with soft drinks
Personally I believe its none of my business what people like and how they like it. If people didnt mix things in life most drinks wouldn't exist.
I don't mind a JD and coke but I dont mind it neat either, In malts I only like a drop of water thats from melted ice. But I could drink say bushmills and coke/lemonade.
I'll try anything because if you don't ty you cannot fully appreciate Alcohol in its entirety.
Chasloyal
10 Dec 15#316
I'll 'slam' anyone that gives it the "I love JD" or whatever drink for that matter when they mix it with anything, even plain soda, because that totally undermines what they are saying.
When people claim they love a drink but need to mix it to enjoy it I reserve the right to dig them out about it, I think them trapping off such utter tosh does make it my 'business' to have my quid's worth.
It is a bit like saying I love my mrs...........when the sort from the across the road joins us in the pit
My next door neighbour back home in England is a self confessed life long alc yet he had never even heard of 90% of the German and Belgian beers I drink till I moved in, but that melt goes on about loving his drink all the time and does drink more in a day than I do in a week. Ironically I'm not an alc but I take my enjoyment of beverages most seriously, am I making sense?

10 Dec 15#325
Well I hate milk big time, proper filth puss that it is, and why on earth would I want to sweeten a savoury almost bitter drink?
I would rather lick the water out of a puddle than drink that plastic instant rubbish and the only time I ever do tea is when I got man flu and make it like some hot remedy abortion which does include gear like freshly squeezed lemon juice and honey if that's what you're angling for.
I'm not really sure comparing a squidge of HP on some cheap processed meat in a sarnie to destroying a fine cognac, or any decent quality spirit, with a splash of fizzy E numbers is quite the same thing so I am not getting your vibes on that one :man:
one_way
10 Dec 15#326
It is the same really, its like getting a sauce on fillet steak or something, many would say that you ruin the taste of the steak many would say it makes it taste better. Peoples choice everyone likes differents things. Only closed mind people cant see this.
Chasloyal
10 Dec 151#327
Putting sauce on anything destroys the taste of it, I'm not sure I even tried to dispute that. There's plenty of people, not just kids, that won't eat chips without ketchup.
If anything that backs up my argument all the more, smothering grub with sauce takes away the flavour of the food like filling up a shot with pop takes the taste n bite of the spirit away.
You reckon stating the obvious equates to having a 'closed mind' then?

Enhancing the flavour is not what ketchup does lol not even HP. I'd be prepared to go along with something like Bernaise on steak to a degree or even say Hollandaise on asparagus but standard greasy spoon caf like fayre in a squeezy bottle is habit.
I'm not saying I don't have brown or red on stuff myself because I do but I think it's almost like the addiction or routine of it rather than it enhances. Could say that about seasoning too.
I did say earlier, I hate vodka but still I would never mix it with anything. To me spirits are all about being savoured, or in my case of vodka dreaded, neat. I do think a lot of people are more addicted to the sugar rush than the warm buzz you get from a quality spirit.

I wouldn't have pulled you out on your maths, but as you did with mine I couldn't help myself.
To work out VAT of an item that already has had it applied divide the total by 1.2
e.g £15 / 1.2 = £12.50
To work out VAT of an item before it is applied multiply the total by 1.2
e.g £12.50 * 1.2 = £15
What you have done is take 20% from the total to give £3. This is incorrect when working with VAT.

Best come to Österreich then because you can get this pony for around 12 Euro(£8.50) a bottle from either Billa, Merkur or Interspar every single month of the year, one of them three is always doing a 25% off spirits deal and seeing it's around €16 RRP, that's what you can get it for all the time!
Sorry I'm getting irritated with this thread now because Jack D is not even smooth, it's just a superbly marketed cheap mass produced spirit that gives you heartburn, sorry but it is what it is.........overpriced pants!

If Three Barrels was marketed even half as well as Jack Daniel's maybe people would consider it 'great' like old school Remy or new school ABK6, but it's not.
Pehaps that's because your average cognac drinker is too clue'd up to be taken in by cheap bunny, whilst lovers of American down your throat branding will swallow anything, perhaps not? Though a quick peek at any number of whiskey/bourbon enthusiasts sites would suggest JD is not even remotely close to being considered great by those who enjoy that type of tipple #justsaying

We're all dreaming - or have been drinking!
(Though my sister says what others are saying, that Morrisons is a nightmare for booze deals - we'll see tomorrow I suppose!).
Why have HUKD suddenly recruited new members?
just like tescos does they deals at 6pm the day before and add the words from tomorrow
tho as for the old offer ending it is easy to code that when they list to deal to set and expire time
no staff are up at this time, they not paid near enough to update in real time booze deals
---
tho since it morrisons, the shelfs will be bare before the stores even open tomorrow
Many thanks op!
We don't start selling alcohol until 10

Very very happy at that price.
Stratford is in england unless he is meaning east kilbride which i doubt
They had tons of big bottles for £15 not just Jack Daniels. All sorts of stuff.
Thanks to the OP, I actually brought a few bottles from Asda a week ago @ £20. Nice to stock up
Still on offer at Sainsburys at £18 as well - although £3 more worth a look if Morrisons run short.
Though you'll find the nationalist socialist SNP do want to really clamp down on drinking in Scotland, higher taxes on stronger volume beers and the like.
Sorry if that is also my agenda :man:
This deal will lead to a great end of 2015...
(Voted hot now I've got the screenshot  )
Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year and enjoy the free flowing Jack :-)
Have you worked out how much of a loss leader this is?
£15 minus VAT = £12.50
Duty = £27.66 per litre of pure alcohol. So 40% of £27.66 = £11.06
£12.50-£11.06= £1.44!
Two this morning for me. Loads left in Halifax as of 9am.
Loads in stock as you go in they are to the right, beside the self service checkouts.
Thanks for posting, OP
I got my fair share. Should see me through the next week or two.
They've still got some left, at Belper.
I've hidden mine from the Missus
It's limited to two per customer, though I'm sure there's ways round that....
ps. People at the start of this thread giving it "where, where, where's the proof??". You could always ring up yourselves and find out you peasants.
Cheers!
If you're going to do something, do it properly or don't do it at all type of thing
Why?
Heat tho, if genuine!
Make Christmas Day night go faster!
Lol
I would rather lick the water out of a puddle than drink that plastic instant rubbish and the only time I ever do tea is when I got man flu and make it like some hot remedy abortion which does include gear like freshly squeezed lemon juice and honey if that's what you're angling for.
I'm not really sure comparing a squidge of HP on some cheap processed meat in a sarnie to destroying a fine cognac, or any decent quality spirit, with a splash of fizzy E numbers is quite the same thing so I am not getting your vibes on that one :man:
If anything that backs up my argument all the more, smothering grub with sauce takes away the flavour of the food like filling up a shot with pop takes the taste n bite of the spirit away.
You reckon stating the obvious equates to having a 'closed mind' then?
Oh wait we all have
I'm not saying I don't have brown or red on stuff myself because I do but I think it's almost like the addiction or routine of it rather than it enhances.
Had to stop the Mrs being sucked in by the other "great" offers.
And before anyone else bangs about scotch whiskey it mostly tastes like cats wee.
Anyway I'm buying it and its hot because Its to my liking, neat on the rocks good sir :man: I know what I'm doing Xmas day when the in laws are gone :stuck_out_tongue:
Fortunately, a really thoughtful customer - recognising a truly dismayed expression - called out to me to point out a further stack of them at the end of the aisle.
Limited to two per customer - which is good news 'cos something had to limited me...
thanks op
