Lots of people - Eddie Mair column funny, letters at the back, good article usually by Andrew Collins on film related stuff, radio listings - if you love listening to the radio where on earth else would you find them? Yeah TV stuff bit hit and miss but then so are the programs.....
Not even too many obtrusive adverts - I've stopped buying Empire because it became a Cosmo-alike ads mag instead of a film one.

Thanks, just ordered. Do I need to cancel the direct debit just before it's up or can I do any time the £1 has been taken?
Watch out on cancelling the DD tho, last year I did it straight away after the xmas issue and they just stopped sending me the other 9 I was supposed to have for the £1, lol!
Also in their T&C that they can refuse you if you have cancelled a trial sub in the past...

If the 15 treats for Christmas are the best that's on offer, you could commend the RT for it's contribution to energy saving.
Saw the Guy Martin Vulcan programme (for younger readers, it isn't a SciFi) a few weeks ago. One of the more interesting parts was the crew that bombed Stanley runway revealing that of the 21 bombs dropped, only ONE was on target. Strange how the photos from various media at the time showed the runway peppered with multiple bomb craters. Nothing changes.

Ordered, but the offer is for 10 issues for £1 (not 12) & the first issue I could select was publish date 24/12/15. Looks like I missed the Xmas issue, but I took a punt for a quid.

I have had problems with this. I bought 12 issues for £1 starting in October. I never received the Christmasa double edition (the main reason I bought it) and when I queried it they said it must have got lost in the post. A week later I had ££33.80 direct debit taken (that's before the 12 weeks was up) I wrote and complained and was told they had suspended my subscription because the Post Office had returned an issue to them! That sounds most odd. They will refund my dd in 28 days by cheque. I am not very happy at all. They had suspended my subscription and weren't sending me copes but still thought it was OK to set up a direct debit!

Also had problems with them lately. They used to be really good at customer service, but now they're sometimes downright difficult. You can never be sure of getting the magazine unless you receive a paper confirmation, and that often takes a long time. They're also getting very picky about taking on 'new' customers who've had this offer (or a similar one) before, and their database stores a lot more than you might expect it to!

I've cancelled the direct debit in my online bank account... do I have to inform the subscription company?
If it's cancelled do the bank just block any future payment attempt?
Newbold to TGPips
15 Jan 161#35
Technically, yes you do need to contact them, but in practice it's unlikely to matter. Once the DD is cancelled payment can't be taken, and if it is (in error) you'll be able to claim it back under the Direct Debit Guarantee.
TGPips
15 Jan 16#36
Yeah that's what I thought. Obviously as far ad subscription company know, I technically still want it as they haven't had a cancellation. And they will still have my account details, so could be in for an avoidable refund scenario, unless I just contact them.
I'm just paranoid if I contact them now I might lose some issues if they nause up and cancel sending out the remaining ones, thinking I don't want those!
Will have to remind myself to email them closer to the end of the deal...
Newbold
15 Jan 161#37
I wouldn't worry about that. Just tell them you want to cancel, but still receive all 12 issues that you've paid for. They'll always send all 12 if you make that clear.
