I have one. Some thoughts:
1.
The headphone hissing is unbearable. It changes pitch when you touch the screen, and seems to be a design fault as 'refurbished' warranty replacements were the same. You won't be able to use the tablet for movies on the 'plane / music. The only workable alternative is using Bluetooth headphones, which would probably solve that problem.
2.
The screen is bright enough, sharp enough and responsive enough. You'll see the word "enough" a few times here!
3.
Yes, you can install Windows 10 - I did, and immediately returned to the safe harbour of Windows 8.1.
4.
It's quite heavy for its size, but not that unbalanced and feels 'weighty' rather than 'flimsy'. The power and volume buttons work fine.
5.
The case (mine is black) doesn't stay closed magnetically, but I think it's good enough for the £20 that I paid. I know, paying half the value of the tablet for a case... but it does allow you to 'prop up' or 'stand up' the case.
6.
It takes Micro SD cards for additional storage. Yay. Enough.
7.
If you just want something for web browsing (see #8 below), email and the one or two apps in Windows - it's great.
8.
With Internet Explorer for the 'metro' (full screen) interface, you can change default search to Google (using an 'add-in') and install some 'tracking protection lists' to block a lot of web-based advertising. It's not perfect, but it's good enough for £50.
9.
No, it's not an iPad. If apps - especially tablet-focused apps - are you major concern, save yourself £50 and buy an iPad without buying one of these first.
10.
I wouldn't trust the battery beyond four hours.
So, in conclusion, "good enough for £50" is probably the take-home message.

I purchased one last time they were this price, rather good I thought and buying a 7''Leather Case Cover Bluetooth Keyboard For 7 inch Android Tablet PC for £12.40 off ebay made it a very usable little tool with a good battery life.

Deal should be corrected to inform people on the audio port flaw. The audio port is not properly shielded and so interference from the electricals can be heard when listening via earphones. It can't be fixed and it is distracting.

Lies. Open a case with Consumer Direct to get a case reference and then go back to them. Responsibility for problems lies with the retailer NOT with the manufacturer. A manufacturer warranty is in addition to your standard legal rights. In many instances it can be easier to deal with the manufacturer but you don't have to.
Still in stock for me but a sure sign that they must be running low (presume now running on peoples shopping cart returns?

Just something to keep in mind. Even when being sold earlier in year, this was an 'end of life' product that was being or was about to be, discontinued by HP. That said, as long as you go in with both eyes wide open and accept the limitations and/or quirks mentioned in many reviews, it can be a very good tablet.

guys this is a terrible tablet even at this price. lags on everything, Windows 10 is useless and even the browser is slow. tried watching the ufc on by sports live stream and it couldn't handle that. mine just sits in the draw I have absolutely no use for it. the sound out of headphones is dreadful too. very very poor tablet
cvyas to chrisredmayne
14 Dec 15#64
Thats due to the storage being EMMC. EMMC is just slow. If your getting a windows tablet make sure you get one which has a SSD (Solid state drive). I have one with an SSD and it boots in 4 seconds, everything opens instantly. No lag at all.
AVOID EMMC. Unless your very patient and don't mind a slow and laggy device.

It also has a problem when using a bluetooth device where the wifi drops, so the bluetooth headphone workaround isn't really a solution too.
Best solution i found was to use an external usb sound card through a usb hub. It's a bit ridiculous and quality completely depends on how expensive it is (I went cheap), but it does remove the static.
Tablet is just sat here now and since just purchased a diferent one.

My tablet sometimes does this too, you can actually make the keyboard icon show in the system tray in tablet mode (like it does in desktop mode) so you can call up the keyboard whenever you want. All you need to do is right click (or long press..) the taskbar and choose "show touch keyboard button".

I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro which is also a Windows tab. They are well built the only downside is the lack of big title games like Temple Run 2 ( they do have Temple Run Oz & Brave which are both chargeable) in the Windows app store.

Bought mine this time last year from MS. Updated to Win 10 fine. It is heavier than a Linx model but the quality of build is better. I use it for work due to its ruggedness. The warranty for mine started from when it was made not when I bought it. I found this out when I registered it with HP. I contacted HP and they confirmed this but updated their records to reflect 12 months from purchase date.

I haven't got round to selling my copy of Office365 (bought back in April off post here), I called MS support and got through to their India office, not entirely sure he knew what I was talking about when I asked him if it expired, he said it didn't, can anyone else who bought this last time round confirm whether there is an expiry date? I was told its 12 months from whenever you activate but a little concerned I sell this and it doesn't work for whoever buys it.

I bought one last time they were down to this price and it runs great. Just before anyone complains of the amount of ram. It wasn't as fast as my i7 gaming laptop with 16 times more ram, I didn't complain with myself being a bit of a stoic. I endured, persevered and after about ten minutes I came to the conclusion. It works well. I have a Samsung S5 mini with 1.5 of ram running android without to many apps and I sometimes find it a bit laggy at times.
