HomeServe Cover 8 provides cover for all sorts of issues at home (boiler, plumbing, electrical...). £9.50 per month with £50 excess (£114 per year). It doesn't include an annual boiler service.
There's £84 TCB/£80 Quidco and you receive a £50 Argos Voucher.
If you assume TCB pays out, you're essentially paying £30 for a £50 Argos Voucher even if you value the cover at 0. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/homeserve/ http://www.quidco.com/homeserve/
Home serve doesn't allow you to claim under the policy in the first 28 days, so you're effectively paying for 12 months for a 11 month policy.

I'm not going to list all the problems we had with Homeserve but needless to say we didn't renew our policy in November.
On the plus side Quidco did pay the cash back and HS did pay compensation when one of their engineers left all the bleed valves open on the upstairs rads & didn't tell the engineer who turned up a day or so later to fit the new part. Needless to say we had some wet carpets!

TopCashBack are a joke, I wouldn't trust them with any large cashback sum.
They probably pocket the £84 themselves and tell you that the cashback was declined or didn't track.
Putting in any sort of manual claim is a complete and utter time wasting mechanism for TCB....

They were much better than Quidco up to a 1-1.5 year ago but now they are degrading more and more. I have got 4-5 tickets lingering over a year with big cashbacks I am not hoping to be successfully resolved.

Boiler insurance - read the Terms carefully.
We had boiler cover with British Gas, during the annual service they recommended a Power flush, magnetic cleanser etc etc ... for a lot of money.
Natually we didn't take them up on their recommendations as there was nothing wrong with the system.
When the boiler developed a leak (unrelated to recommendations) they turned down the cover saying that we didn't take up their recommendations and thus are not eligible for cover! Yet, they were happy enough to still receive the monthly payments - the cheek.
All in all .. a total rip off. You only get cover if you take them up on their overpriced recommendations.
I anticipate it will be a similar case with all boiler insurance these days. Check the terms!!

Something going on at Homeserve at the moment. I had a renewal for £196. Phoned to cancel as had already got similar cover for this year with home insurance. Immediately knocked off £90. Said i'd think about it, just to get off the phone. Rang a few days later to finally cut the cord and the bloke basically asked me what i was prepared to pay in order to stay with them. I said well unless you'll do it for £30, and i'm sure you won't, then i'll have to cancel. In the end we settled on £54 for full cover with no excess. If i'd paid a £50 excess i would have indeed got the cover for £30.
Always pays to question every quote you get.

You get what you pay for, the price is great but in my experience with HomeServe they aren't very good at the "Serve" bit. Terrible after sale not turning up for booked appointments, turning up 2 hrs late and returning to fix issues 3 or 4 times because they didn't do the job correctly the first time!

At who's prices? If against the cost of replacemt via your preferred installer, fine. If only applicable against Homeserve's inflated- price installers, it will likely cost you more to accept the £200 contribution!

I have called them out many times.
My upstairs toilet pipe getting blocked all the time.
First few times they came and jetted it clear but it was happening every few weeks or so.
I got on the phone after third or fourth time and asked them to do a proper repair because it's the same problem every time.
They sent 2 vans and stuck a camera down the drain and found it had collapsed.
Dug up the garden and repaired it.
All was well for a bit then same problem. Called them again and they stuck the camera down again.
This time they found that when the drain collapsed a chunk of clay drain pipe had worked its way down the soil pipe.
He broke it up and flushed it through.
Been a year or so.. No problems.
All for 50p a month!.
I thought it would be rude of me not to renew.
Overall I am extremely pleased with their service.
If they had dropped the camera down on first or second visit it would saved a lot of hassle

A warning home serve are appalling as other members have confirmed.Came out on a house insurance policy for a specific plumbing problem.guy said he would need to contact head office as it needed a plumber to sort it out , then charged 85 pounds for 5 mins of totally useless information. Of course it needed a plumber !!! .I advised Norwich Union that these cowboys are taking liberties. I had a 200 limit for repairs for which home serve used half telling me the obvious.luckily after complaints to N U they ignored the home serve charge and let me use a local plumber who took 15 mins to solve easy problem.
Very best of luck using home serve. !!!

Didn't pay out my tcb. Their contactors came out 5-6 times to the same problem and never fixed it. Deemed my 4 year old boiler beyond economical repair! Thankfully homserve didn't agree with them, subcontracted to the manafacturer and new heat exchanger sorted it in 20 mins. Will be going with domestic and general next year.

HomeServe Argos voucher offer expires on 22 December.
Which URL are people getting 404 on? The HomeServe, Quidco and TCB URLs all work for me.
I think some people are slightly missing the point. If you think TCB/Quidco will pay out (97/98% tracking stats), and you want a £50 Argos voucher, you can pay £30 for that voucher.
You can just ignore the fact that you get some cover that you can choose to use or not.
