yep - its the top one. My point was she will insist any clothes are washed even after a few hours wear. Might have to get her to pay the leccy & water bill :smiley:
She spends an absolute fortune on clothes. My jeans are 10+ years old :confused:
I probably spend less than £100 per year all in on clothes and trainers. Prefer to spend my money on more enjoyable things like the pub etc :smiley:
if you look at the programs(against your model) in the manual you will see that consumptions(energy/water)& time have not changed much for the programs we would use every day.
The super eco ratings A+ A++ A+++ are done by programs that take longer and use less water.
Why is she wearing jeans round the house why not some house clothes like sweatpants/leggings?
I take mine(Jeans) off as soon as I get in, get more going out days out of them.

I wish my gf took your point about washing clothes that aren't really dirty. She only has to wear a pair of jeans around the house for a few hours and they just have to be washed. Mine have to be dirty :wink:

This is standard for just about every machine out there now to get their ratings, not real life washes.
They will have a go faster button that will bring the time down as on our newish bosch).
Whats your model number? can have a look at that against the current model.
I think the issue for domestic washers is there is little left to make them more efficient(in terms of water and power) without more time.
The other thing is the standard washes for the specs are for dirty clothes many people don't have dirty clothes so never need the long hot washes just short ones enough to refresh.
The standards are based on 220 washes a year
The current Bosch 9KG specs are all A+++ their partial load wash is 270mins and use the same amount of water as the one here,

You'll find modern machines take a lot longer to clean, because they don't heat up as much. That's how they save energy. The trade off is that the clothes need to spend much longer in the water to achieve the same cleaning result.

Relays? Wow, that must be really old - they've had thyristor control since the 70s. All the other improvements are standard nowadays though, so the marketing guff about it being "clever" is just that.

Actually it will be a lot more. In the region of 50p a load. I work for a major white goods manufacturer so I know the figures. Example, an A rated machine and an A+. The A+ uses 10% less. 15 year old machine? Guessing D rated at best

No, it's an a rated machine and no way would any washing machine use 50p in 49 minutes
A 3kwh kettle wouldn't use 50p lol
Edit;- my manual states 40c cotton is 0.55kwh so about 6p in electric per load
Methinks you're in the wrong job :wink:
Still, it's a great deal if you don't do multiple loads in a day

Most washing machines draw cold water. At this time of year the temperature will be lower than the summer. They have to heat this to 30 / 40 / .. / 90 Water has a massive specific heat capacity so the heating element and power consumption will be large. Less water used = less water heated = low costs. Also the older machines have huge motors to spin the drum, the newer ones use smaller more efficient units. Also the new units can sense load, wobble and so can balance the load during a cycle. The older model just had relays contolling the motors driven of a mechanical mechanism.

My new Bosch has longer wash times than my old one. New Eco settings and less wear on the clothes is the reason. There will be faster cycles but they will wear the load more.

These guys OEM parts for Bosch and Siemens Neff. They are one of the top five white good vendors globally. Not yet well known in the UK. I think they are one of the top OEMss for TVs and will own the Sharp range from next year.
