I use Sainsburys as took advantage of this same offer last year. They're awful with bringing short shelf life items and unlike other supermarkets, they charge you the substitution price rather than charging the lowest price. I've also had meat delivered that had gone off. I've complained several times. The drivers are all friendly enough but that's not enough to keep me as a customer so I'll be going back to Tesco

Because there is a cost to delivery and they are busineses and not charities? If there was enough profit or the business case to simply offer it free to win market share then I'm sure one would do it. However sensible business model would seem to be to charge a relatively low 'annual fee' thus making the customer think they are tied in or feel financially obliged to use it for a year. Getting a year of delivery for 30 quid seems excellent value to me.

Good point re: substitutions - when they substitute essentials like bog roll with more expensive variants you're effectively forced to pay the extra if you can't do without the product. That's why I don't use Sainsburys delivery any more.

Really depends on your area. Nothing really wrong with them, substitutions etc are all reasonable. Drivers friendly and on time. The meat, like chicken say, that's a huge no go area. I could write all day about how filthy it is here. Went vegetarian in the end! Sainsbury's is definitely better quality for meat by a long shot.
Everything else is pretty good, once you get used to their rotating 'offers' and are a bit flexible on what you buy (sometimes stock up a little when something you buy regular is on sale) it's maybe the best in terms of value/quality.
I just fancy a change. Sainsbury's gave us some vouchers and we tried them and everything seemed fine. Bit pricier on some stuff but will work that out and get the cost down :man:
Worst in our area is.. surprise surprise Waitrose! Their substitutions are ridiculous. Every time we had their delivery I had to go to our local Morrissons to patch it up. If you buy say 350g of something, like stir fry, they'll sub it with some posh stir fry, with odd ingredients, and only 100g. So after they've done that with a bunch of items, you end up with a more expensive shop than usual (because their min order is higher) and much less food than you need for the week. So off I have to go to Morrissons when I was hoping to relax on Sunday. :smirk:

Same experience with Sainsbury's regarding substitutions - ended up complaining and got money off voucher for the next shop, but I am not planning to do this every time a more costly substitution is given. We did online shopping with all retailers for a month (each) and Tesco was the overall winner - the easiest to use website, substitutions always charged at lowest price and great drivers. Sainsbury's food is in most cases better quality than Tesco, I can agree with that, but then again we also noticed that price is also 10%-20% higher than Tesco, so you do pay for that quality. Average shopping with Tesco £50, same basket with Sainsbury's closer to £60.
Shopping in Lidl + Online Top-up of items which are not sold there with Tesco always worked best for us.

We are thinking of switching from Tesco to Sainsburys (thanks for the heads up on this pass!). Tesco drivers are really helpful; Tesco customer service is really good - but when I look on the £130 weekly receipt and see, 'We are pleased to tell you, you have saved 40p this week by shopping with Tesco', I kinda think that's not enough to keep me and Sainsbury's always seems to taste better???

re substitions I have set my preferences so that I get NO substitutions. I once got stung with the random substitions. Once was enough. My sister once ordered soup and got gravy granules.... yeah the woman on the phone who refunded her couldn't understand it either.
I used to use Tesco's but I wasn't impressed with the quality. Tried Ocado, quality a bit hit and miss, also too pricey for the minimum order. Have been with Sainbury's for years, very few issues and they are quick to refund which I like. Also managed to bag a few free items over the years that I never ordered!

Before signing up we were browsing the groceries and there was a good selection. After logging in and booking a slot, the selection was almost halved - presumably because our local delivery store does not stock all the products. Annoying.

why is everyone complaining about the substitutions? You don't have to keep them once they arrive. they just return them and refund you on their handheld device.
everyone already knows the price you order is not 100% until packed, so you should expect to be charged more or less on the day.
If you don't like subs. just change your preferences.

Ive used tesco asda and sainsburys over the last few years and if i was to pick the best would have to be sainsburys. Always friendly drivers and long dates on the items delivered and hardly any subs. This is where asda And tesco fall down from my own personal experience. Sainsburys have now extended there price match online which is good. I think there are definitely inconsistencies between stores and what area they are in.

i once had an awful experience with Sainsbury's. Lots of fresh stuff went off within 2-3 days.
They refunded me for everything. I try not to do groceries online though. Especially a big shop - as it gives them (I have tried the big 3 mentioned) more room to mess it up. Sneaky substitutes that break deals.Short life items, etc.
Drivers always seem in a rush & you dont get a proper chance to cross check your items with what you ordered...

If you already have a delivery pass then you can't add another, i.e. it won't let you stack them.

Thanks OP.
I find the groceries from Sainsuburys are bit more expensive than Asda or Morrisons. Voucher (eg. £5 off for £50) from Sainsbury sometimes not worth it as the items will cost more than 10% compared to other supermarkets.
Anybody share similar observation?
neeny
2 Jan 161#48
Asda and Morrison’s are cheaper than Sainsbury's there is no denying that but there is a difference in quality on their own supermarket brand, that's why I choose Sainsbury's. If you already use Sainsbury's this is a good deal!
konicky
2 Jan 16#49
Drop times would have to go up considerably to allow you to do this which would mean delivery charges would increase too, as online groceries barely makes any profit for the supermarkets as it is ! Just phone customer services if you have any issues and they will deal with it.

Tesco - every little helps, and it's true on their delivery service too.
Asda - unload the shopping at the front door on the door mat
Sainsbury's - unload the shopping at the front door on the door mat
Tesco - bring the crates inside - tiny difference, but this really helps - we know our delivery people, they even play with the kids who help unload (or hinder). Delivery folk are excellent (although stressed by rubbish scheduling)
Had problems with all deliveries in one way or another - late / missing items / short dated:
- Sainsbury's mess the offers up when refunding - e.g. take back one item on BOGOF and they don't refund - just charge full price for the single item. Or quibble refunds.
- Asda - refused to take back a short dated item, then customer service (in SA or USA) refused to refund.
- Tesco - slightest problem - full refund, never a question. Even had one pizza where packaging was ripped open so dough was hard on one side. Driver refunded item, and said keep pizza as well to see if half of it was edible (half a free pizza is still a free pizza!). Did the same with short dated mince - refund and keep item. Late van missed slot = £5 voucher to spend next time. Excellent customer service.
Tesco every time (although wish they'd reduce their delivery saver to half price as well!)

You buy a pass. It is active for a year. It is tied to the email account you buy it on so it is applied automatically at checkout. Minimum order amount is £40. You can have up to one delivery per day on any day you're eligible for (anytime is every day, midweek is Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday).
It's a good idea to buy one if you would have spent more on delivery costs in a year than the pass costs. It's a bad idea to buy one if you will rarely shop online or can't usually make the minimum order amount.

I've just cancelled my delivery pass with Sainsbury's. They are actually very good, I've only had one offer charged full price and one meat near sell by date. Also price is either just about spot on, perhaps a bit lower - why? No Substitutes. I had substitutes when I was with other shops to try and got them. Always down on quality. It's horses for courses. I live in Otley it's better than when I lived in Leeds but I don't like being tied to one shop so no thanks for the delivery pass for 3 months and definitely no substitutions

I've asked at Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Tesco, Asda and the policy is the same....... When the 'pickers' select an item, if the sell by date is current they take the item from the front of the shelf, so even if you've requested the latest sell by date you won't get it !

Love Sainsburys, they always sort out any problems and give me loads of coupons etc ended up with free Christmas cake, free cheese, free prosecco and free party food in the 4 weeks up til Christmas. Worth noting though that if you have a big family or just spend a lot on booze etc they do FREE delivery on orders £100 or over every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after 2pm so might not be worth you getting the delivery pass. I don't know any other supermarket that offers free delivery like that

5 Jan 16#84
This will vary from store to store. In our Sainsbury's store we are told to always dig to the back and find the best date and to aim for 7 days life. It can also depend on when your delivery slot is, if you have a morning delivery time your shop will be picked first, while the night shift are still putting stock out and this means there's more chance of an item being subsituted or the item having a shorter shelf life.

:smirk:
Shopping in Lidl + Online Top-up of items which are not sold there with Tesco always worked best for us.
Subs can be annoying at times but a lot better recently. What's great now is the price match with ASDA which means I get best of both worlds.
for the rest
I used to use Tesco's but I wasn't impressed with the quality. Tried Ocado, quality a bit hit and miss, also too pricey for the minimum order. Have been with Sainbury's for years, very few issues and they are quick to refund which I like. Also managed to bag a few free items over the years that I never ordered!
Before signing up we were browsing the groceries and there was a good selection. After logging in and booking a slot, the selection was almost halved - presumably because our local delivery store does not stock all the products. Annoying.
Obviously there's limited stacking on to existing passes.
everyone already knows the price you order is not 100% until packed, so you should expect to be charged more or less on the day.
If you don't like subs. just change your preferences.
BTW OP, Hot deal. I only use them 4x a year so it's still cheaper for me to pay for delivery.
I phoned up customer services and they offered to cancel my pass, which lets you take advantage of the half-price offer but you lose out on the remaining months. After a very little bit of moaning they finally offered to give me an e-voucher for the month I lost.
I find the groceries from Sainsuburys are bit more expensive than Asda or Morrisons. Voucher (eg. £5 off for £50) from Sainsbury sometimes not worth it as the items will cost more than 10% compared to other supermarkets.
Anybody share similar observation?
I don't know for sure, I ALWAYS turn off the auto renewal right away and I just checked mine, says my anytime pass renewal price is £30, mine doesn't run out til the end of Jan, so I've taken a screen grab in case they decide to take the £60...
I have just bought the £15 Midweek pass. Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday delivery.
Good value for us as we do not live close to the big supermarkets and grocery shop online most weeks.
Have some heat.
No more 7 mile round trip, no more going out in the rain, no looking for a parking space, no more forgetting my shopping bags every time!
Edit: BTW the thing I like about sainsburys is its fresh, I can buy 5 days worth of fresh food and not throw an once of it. Try walking into an ASDA or Tesco and coming out with meat and veg that lasts 5 days! Also they throw money at you :stuck_out_tongue: they forgot some eggs and I got £8 back. Just got £10 off £100 voucher too.
so you can get one free delivery a week with either of these passes, and any other orders need to be 40£
is this correct?
Thanks op!
I started at asda went to tesco then sainsburys and tesco is still my fave, be switching back this year. You also get clubcard with tesco but ive never used it, i maybe have loads points for this boost thing unless they expire ha.
It's the fruit that gets me, I want to restock twice a week but I'm not buying £40 worth of grapes.
I've gone for it, the voucher back if you don't use it seems to make it worthwhile.
We'll work out if your plan cost more than you'd have spent on delivery
charges, if it did we'll give you a grocery eCoupon for the difference."
It's a good idea to buy one if you would have spent more on delivery costs in a year than the pass costs. It's a bad idea to buy one if you will rarely shop online or can't usually make the minimum order amount.
:innocent:
As with usual IT issues, switch it off and back on again
This site has gone down the pan!,
Just got this email:
"We recently sent you an email about your 12 month anytime Delivery Pass being up for renewal. We spotted that you just missed out on our half price offer but we'd like to extend this offer to you and renew your pass for half price.
You don't need to do anything; we'll automatically take the half-price payment when your current pass expires on 27/01/2016."
Well, yes, I will be having it for the £30 thanks, seeing as that's what the bloody webpage said I would be paying when I clicked the renew button! I feel I should be forever grateful for them doing me this great favour, lol...
Anyone know if they're likely to run this same promo again, and if you can apply under an account that's ready had a discounted pass?
