Saw this on Zavi and thought is was a good price for a 3D and 2D blu-ray.

Never been a fan of these types of films but really enjoyed this. Must watch in 3d like others!

Finally got round to seeing this last week and it is fantastic. Great sense of humour throughout. Even better on repeat viewing. The 3D is surprisingly good. Doesn't outstay it's welcome at just over 2hrs. Wish I'd invested in my 3D copy sooner.

Well if you read the comics, there's plenty of backstory to the characters which is continued in the film. I'd say it was a film for comic fans, rather than starting from zero for the benefit of the cinema goers. I'd rather they get a film out with all the characters now rather than wait 6 years for each one to have their own personal setup. Going into their backgrounds would take too long in one film. Like how Drax is the reincaranted soul of a man whose family was killed by Thanos, and he was imbued with special abilities in order to kill Thanos. Or how Thanos is deranged in that he has an obsession with the universal abstract Death, and wishes to impress her by bringing death and destruction.
There is some child humour, but also some adult too. Like the blacklight joke, or the Drax metaphors. Which got massive laughs from adults in the cinema. It's aimed at a wide audience, much like Avengers. Which has lots of silly slapstick in there too.
I also don't recall any hype. No idea what you mean by that. I saw one brief trailer, thought "what the hell is this", and then saw it at the cinema on a whim. I recall a lot more hype for Avengers, and that scores almost the same, or even worse, on IMDB/Rotten/Metacritic (8.1 vs 8.1, 8 vs 7.8, 66% vs 76%).

Guardians of Galaxy was such an awesome and feel good film. Characters were awesome, casting was perfect. Humour was on point and the whole tone of the film was amazing, imo there was no real hype going into the film - the buzz was mostly due to the fact that it was outlandish and Marvel brand recognisiation.

Basically it was a cash in on the Avengers.
Marvel spent about half dozen films creating the back story to each character and setting up the film.
Guardians of the Galaxy put it all into a single film and a single plot.
It doesn't work well at all, you never really feel for the characters or setting and the story suffers because of it. They added in some child level humour and hoped the hype would carry it.
The average rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 7.8/10 and Metacritic score of 76/100.
I could really rip into everything wrong the film (I was really looking forward to it, so was really quite disappointed), but bottom line is it was it's an okay film which doesn't live up to the hype.

Way over hyped film in my opinion, but seems a good price.

I had Deal Fever briefly there and was going to grab this. But your post reminded me how hugely mediocre the film is, so I'll vote HOT but keep my wallet in my pocket. :man:

The IMDB (8.1) and Rotten Tomatoes (91%) scores suggests otherwise..
I think contrarians are inbound...
