It is potentiality £5, if you are a customer who usually consumes their media through play store purchases then you will be using the £20 anyway, so for just another £5 over and above your usual price for media consumed you are getting this product too.

No buffering here unless I cast the whole screen and that was just a one off. Since purchasing I have stopped using my android tv box, put kodi etc on my nexus 7 and use that to cast to this, I find it easier as the pads in my hands dont need a keyboard and no buffering plus better picture. Also find bubble more stable than allcast if using showbox etc. .

Don't get confused here - the "Original" version, had HDMI output, but would allow video media and music to be streamed to your TV/AV. The same goes for "v2" of chromecast.
The Chromecast Audio, has a 3.5mm/toslink jack/port. Which is meant to be hooked up to audio gear, like speakers/amp.
Are these better than original chromecasts. More times than not I would get buffering issues when watching just a YouTube video

That sounds like more of an issue with your local wifi setup. I've used an original chromecast for casting all kinds of content without much issue. The newer versions support the AC protocol though, so if you've got a router that supports it the newer versions are better.

FinderOfDeals to Zandana
4 Dec 15#25
It's going to be down to what they're plugging into the 3.5mm jack of the Chromecast audio. If you stick in rubbish speakers/amp/headphones/earphones, you're going to get rubbish audio out, even if you send great audio in. If you want to talk about the audio processing chip, it can't be that bad really since it's also got a toslink in the same port!

Yes you can. Depending on the program you're using to stream, it will still send something to be displayed on a TV, but the music will still play. For example, Google Play music app, sends the album cover, album name, track title and a timeline. Since I have my Chromecast in the back of my A/V, I can still use that, but have my TV turned off, and use it like a hifi.

The credit has nothing to do with where you buy it from. The serial number of the device is linked to your Google account. Once that serial number has been linked to account that offer can't be used again, even when factory reset and linked to a difference account. It's Google themselves that are giving the credit.

I have. Works fine for apps and movies and music. Basically buy chromecast plug into tv and micro charger it comes with then use the chromecast app to attach to your wifi. Once connected to your wifi it will likely update it's software slightly. Then I check the chromecast offers page on chrome from a pc as I find easier. If I sign onto my Google account it adds to mine but I have also signed in on my kids gmail account and added to them. Also I have used things like the free music trials before then using a second chromecast got a second trial on my kids tablets account. Note for play music app can have 2+ accounts that can then choose 1 that's signed in so can have my apps Gmail and access to the trial that my daughter has active but if choose that not my own owned music collection.

I've also been using a Bluetooth adaptor with AptX for my system, the quality is pretty good and I was very happy. Tried a friend's Chromecast Audio and the difference in fidelity made my jaw drop. Bluetooth is a heavily compressive technology, even AptX, but audio over wifi is not. Plus you don't have to go through the faffing around with pairing and unpairing devices with wifi audio and the Chromecast, it stays connected so long as your wifi signal reaches it. Try it, you'll be blown away if your system is half decent.
With a cheaper active speaker, yes you probably won't see a significant jump in audio quality.

Thats because it's not coming from your device, it streams the audio direct from the cloud so the phone is just basically a remote. If you're using an Android 4.4.2 device or higher, it is possible to mirror your tablet/phone's audio to Chromecast Audio. More detail here:
But would the audio be as good as coming from the cloud? have heard that you can get issues like lag, stuttering or degraded quality mirroring the audio because it has to go from your phone to the router then to the Chromecast.

That depends completely on you. It would seem you are the type of person who never spends any money in Google Play, and the credit would just sit there unused, so for you yes the cost is £25 (still a good price for a great bit of kit though).
On the other hand, people like myself who would have spent that amount of cash (and more LOL) in Play it means the Chromecast is effectively just £5.
There are ways of converting credit to cash anyway (in-app purchases in your own app for example), so no matter how you use the Play Store you can still get your chromecast for just a fiver (but if you enjoy being annoyed for no real reason, don't let me stop you).

FLAC audio on NAS > non-Chromecast app (Samba Player) on a cheap dual core tablet > router on a different floor > Chromecast Audio
Just needs 'TNT' in big white letters on the side
If I got the Audio chromecast would it cast music to my hifi from youtube obviously without the images.....at the moment I cast to my TV which is connected to my hifi which works fine but wondered if getting the audio chromecast would save me switching the tv on ........
Bought a new all singing and dancing Sony Smart TV a few months back and noticed I could cast directly to that instead of the chomecast,, ie when clicking the cast icon I now had another choice labeled "Sony Bravia".....so tried using that a few times and had issues so just went back to casting to the chromecast
Plex + Chromecast = Perfection
"Chromecast Audio only supports audio apps and this currently does not include YouTube"
But also found some posts that says you can , but by sorta by a sideways method along the lines of useing the cast tab function on the video version.....
Thanks
On the other hand, people like myself who would have spent that amount of cash (and more LOL) in Play it means the Chromecast is effectively just £5.
There are ways of converting credit to cash anyway (in-app purchases in your own app for example), so no matter how you use the Play Store you can still get your chromecast for just a fiver (but if you enjoy being annoyed for no real reason, don't let me stop you).

It's not something I do very often though, Spotify and Deezer have me covered for 99% of stuff.
I got one at £20 and it's one of my favourite bits of technology. Optical out is a real bonus.
