Just happened to stumble on this great deal, a real USA Gibson Les Paul (Classic with slightly wider, faster neck, +15dB switch for a solo boost, '57 zebra p/u's, coil taps) that's up there with the Standard in terms of build quality. Also has the nifty G-Force tuning system and adjustable brass nut.
Has great review from Guitarist magazine, they think it's a hot rodded Standard! : http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/guitars/gibson-les-paul-classic-597120
You can get this in Desert Burst for a little more, or the old fav Cherry burst for the same price.
+ 3 year warranty!
I got mine and it's stunning, best guitar I have ever owned. A real step up from 600 quid Korean guitars and I'd say better build quality than my USA Strat. Lovely case too and a photo of when it was born :)
Very versatile guitar, that neck is so playable, that and the boost switch will make this appeal to modern players.
I ended up getting this and the cherry!

Whats your price limit and do you need to gig with it? Lots of options for every price range.
You could go from a simple but decent Roland Cube for under 100 quid that will be real good for bedroom practice,
or step up to a mini valve amp such as the Purple Wind or similar (but you will need a speaker cab also),
then going further up the price range try the Blackstar HT1R worth a try
I'd also check out the Orange tiny terror valve (again you will need a speaker cab) or the Marshall DSL15H . You can get a decent 12" cab for about 100 to 150 like this one if you go down the head and cab route.
If you are gigging and want real versatility the get a Kemper Amp Profiler or a Marshall JVM Head and Cab but now we are talking serious cash, and volume!
Above that, look at Mesa amps if you are up for spending above 2000 and want real quality
Also remember don't be scared of buying second hand, there's lots of good deals out there on certain sites rhyming with VJ
Hope that helps!

Nice - although the mini toggle instead of the 2nd tone is a bit yak.
Sorry I'm a traditionalist.

great at this price but wouldn't be caught dead paying £1600
they're like iphones, the label is a significant part of the cost on top of the rest

That 'ill be Les Paul's last known signature before he died! I'm undecided if I like that or not.

I'm skeptical about newer Les Paul's as they have a hollowed body. I have 2000 something Studio that doesn't have this design.

Dont be...it's still heavy (beby!) and sustains for ages. TBH it's probably a step up from a studio (although I love studios and would have bought one if this was not on offer), with the better finish, the maple top, the binding, better pickups, the GForce, adjustable nut and Gibsons PLEK setup ...watch this: WATCH
Anyone who owns this or similar...whats a good amp that would get the most out of this guitar without going high end or breaking the bank? Something for home practice but pairs well? Any pointers or links appreciated

For a quality bedroom amp for a good guitar like this use a valve amp with attenuation. So many to choose from but the laney cub 12r at £200ish price is good low end. Many better amps out there but the price goes up (and up). Peavey classic 30 is one of the best bangs for your buck.
If you want a bedroom amp, I would very much recommend a LIne 6 Amplifi. They aren't deafeningly loud but you can get a lot of very good sounds out of them and they are really reasonably priced.

Seriously tempted by this, haven't played in years though. Have a silverburst Les Paul custom that hasn't seen daylight for about 5 years haha. that seafoam green is to die for though

My 13-year old daughter has been learning on a Yamaha Pacifica and a Lindo electro-acoustic for a couple of years now. I'd say she's doing pretty well. I'd really like her to get a "nice" guitar. This is beyond what I had envisaged paying but still seems to be a bargain, all things considered.
I just don't play guitars, so to ask an opinion or two of those who do know...
1. Do you think this be overkill for my daughter? Should I be thinking of something a bit more modest?
2. I've read these guitars are "thick" and "heavy". Do you think this might this be an issue for a young lady?
and finally
3. Would it hold its value?
All advice gratefully received.

1. No, it's a guitar she'll always want to keep and it will inspire her to play.
2. It is slightly heavy but the plus side is that it sounds great because of it....but it's no heavier than a PRS or a similar shaped guitar.
3. Yes it will especially at this price. USA Gibsons always do.

This is gorgeous, I don't feel good enough to play it though. Also, guitar depreciation is the absolute worst. If I got rid of my old guitar to get this it'd go for 10% of the price to some unappreciative slob that will try to knock you down further.

Does anyone know the difference between the classic and the Less Plus?
I want to order two, one for me and one for my dad but don't want the same colour and not keen on blue so looking at other options....
Thanks OP BTW, voted hot

What he said - it will hold its value - but the neck profile is quite different from the Pacifica, so it would be worth seeing if she could try a Les Paul to check the neck profile.

The Classic has a slimmer and tapered neck. Also, the pickups are different: I guess the ones on the Classic are slightly more expensive than those on the Less Plus, but the sound/characteristics of them will be subjective.....so down to personal preference.

very nice indeed, still can't afford it, even with that discount - lol, but looking to upgrade from my Pacifica 120H probably in the new year (still very much a newbie to playing guitar)

Hot Have wife's family that knew someone who worked in the assembly of Gibson guitars in Tennessee, wish i had known at the time that i visited how good these are supposed to be, he said that the one he would sell me for £155 back then would end up being a collectors item for some reason and could possibly be worth thousands but i was thinking about how hard it would be to carry from america to UK with three kids and i do not play so said no thanks. Remember so clearly the kids were petting baby manta-rays in a pool in the same mall as the shop.
