Marshmallow is due for release in January with carriers to release at a later date. I'm with EE so I'll be waiting well in to next year for it. Marshmallow might be the hope I have that the battery will get better without putting a custom ROM on the phone.

i think a good rate, there is a feature of excellent features such as Corning Glass Gorillas 4 better than the previous version of the body protector . so tempted....... struggling to find a decent 5" phone for ~£250/£300. The Nexus 5x is probably the best compromise, but a little too big.
All that puts me off this S6 is the reports of battery life...
andy182
26 Nov 15#30
Battery is poor on the s6 but using quick charge it isnt really an issue. You will get 1 days usage, just charge it on a night for hour and a half (which is full battery) and you are good to go. Carry a little power bank around if you are that worried you may run out
asondh1
26 Nov 15#31
I have an S6. The battery isn't the greatest, it can drain super quick sometimes, esp. when playing games.
But this is definitely the best android phone I've ever owned. I keep the quick charge cable on me and it shoots right back up in no time.
justy79

26 Nov 15#35
justy 79 - out of interest - are you a power user or is it really that bad? On paper, it shoud be adequate,. In online reviews, it seems to hold up all day. However, everytime an S6 gets posted here, people say 'poor battery'. Im just wondering, how poor? Would you be able to share?
Purposefully crippled phone - like the Note 5. No replaceable battery and no SD card slot. Which is even worse, given the appalling battery life plus the fact that when the battery inevitably fails you won't be able to replace it.
Get an S5 (cheaper) or a Note 4 (better) - this is a bad phone.
Very good deal .... I would like to have S6 64gb or Note 4 at this price.

danielson1978
26 Nov 151#42
I bought one a few weeks ago and initially I had concerns about the battery but it seems to have levelled out, I easily get a day out of it, the app optimisation app seems to help and also I've turned off all the Google stuff I don't use (movies, books, music) so it isn't syncing all this stuff all day - It is also faster than the Note4 I sold to buy it
mruk to danielson1978
26 Nov 15#43
is 32gb sufficient? with the lack of memory card I am concerned that 32gb might not be enough.
justy79
26 Nov 15#44
Just as an example - it was fully charged this morning, probably used it for 20 mins in bed, 20 mins on the commute and it was down to 69% battery when I got to the office. I don't have anything on to auto sync either - even the LG G3 was better than this, and that wasn't great either. Seems like Samsung went for slimness rather than putting in an adequate battery.

depends what you do inn those 20 minutes remember. playing an intensive game isnt the same as replying to texts and emails.
however that does look extreme. id check your battery stats and see whats the main drain. perhaps a better battery app might help further identify.
also take a look in your apps and see whats running. loads of services you dont consider run in the background and may be syncing.

Apps I've completely disabled are:
Flipboard
Google play games
Google play movies/TV
Play Music
Google +
Smart Remote
S Health
S Voice
I also have the screen brightness fairly low (manually set) and all the motions and gestures turned off - this is mainly because I don't use any of that stuff, I also pick a darker screen saver.
32gb is fine for me but I do have an iPhone 6s with 64gb so have the option to store things on there, it depends on what you want on your phone I suppose - I think around 12gb is taken up by OS and apps

Wow, that's worse battery drain than on my near 3 year old S4 with it's worn out battery, that's shocking . I may as well save £290 and just get a new battery from Amazon for my S4!!
Imagine how bad it could become if Marshmallow doesn't improve matters when the non replacable battery then starts to wear out in a year or so.
hi_j87
26 Nov 15#48
If you already have a Giffgaff account (may be from your previous SIM order etc), you can choose not to get the new SIM with the new phone, thus saving another GBP5!

Haven't got the link, but from a battery test I watched the other day, s5 vs s6, on streaming YouTube on WiFi the s6 died on 5 hours, the S5 still had 29% battery left.
I think the guy had brightness whacked up to 100% on both, with no stamina modes, but the s5 having almost a third better stamina is a big pointer away from the s6 for me.

I have an S6 and the battery life is fine. Comparable to iPhones, and will definitely get you through the day. I'm also a reasonably heavy user.
Just be careful as to what launchers etc you use, and don't enable apps that you're not going to use such as S Health.
Absolute steal at this price.
