The pic is me weighing at local post office to get an accurate weight to cook it but on the packaging says min weight 1.9kg. Mine was 2.29kg. I've looked everywhere and this was the cheapest I could find a fresh one. Sorry if already post did do a quick search to check.

Just saw a staff member in Asda stick a 2p reduced sticker on a fresh turkey crown and give it to another staff member, not sure that isn't really naughty especially as the sell by date was 26th December so might even be price tampering (and yes I am **** that staff can get away with sticking reduced stickers on in-date items when Joe Public has to pay full price)

I've seen staff at Asda Kinmel Bay using similar tactics, saw a gathering of people and went over to be nosey, was a load of marked down stuff being grabbed by staff, and a bulky security store worker blocking customers!

Fraud for sure. Used to work at Asda & the lady who did reductions for staff used to over reduce stuff then hide it so she could buy it.
Last time I saw her was being led away in handcuffs by the police in front of her family at the checkout. Turned put she'd been marking stuff down by 95% instead of 40% AND marking down stuff that had long dates on it.
Reducing stuff like that turkey to 2p will set alarms off so to speak, there's a report that's printed showing huge reductions like that & goes to each dept manager to explain.
Was easier to get away with years ago with hand written whoops stickers now they're printed they can trace them back to the individual that did it

Turkey crown sound like the best idea (who does eat the legs?) BUT do be careful as sometimes a low per kg price is not the best indicator if what you are getting for the money. Make sure the crown does notinclude wings and other bones.
Got a very nasty surprise buying turkey crown at Aldi last Christmas - after taking the wings and ribs etc out the weight dropped by over 1.5lb !!!! that hiked the real price per kilo to not such a bargain after all :disappointed:

Crown should not have wings and legs - that is why it is a crown after all.

How else can I show what was hidden underneath the nicely looking breasts
Looking at it from the top, as its presented on the tray for sale you could not see what was lurking under - thats the problem, I did not see the hidden bits till unpacked at home :disappointed:

Wrong a crown just means it's been cut up to be a crown you can still get the legs etc included. If you buy a crown from a butcher 99% of the time you will be paying for the whole bird even if you only get the crown
wised_up
23 Dec 15#34
Wow, Rich44 - a crown of bird would not include legs for sure. And just in case some are not too familiar with the anatomy my pictures show a crown upside down with WINGS (just the first part of them, not complete) not legs and the part of a rib cage. You are looking form middle of the bird towards the neck area.
Bought turkey crown from Asda and Morrisons subsequently and none of them had wings etc included, just two breasts on the breast bone.
If in doubt ask at a butcher counter what the crown should include when you are in Morrisons - they are quite helpful.
And if a crown is more than a crown then that should be stated on the packaging, like for instant some boneless chicken breast I have seen a while ago that in a very small print stated that a part of bone is still in (and it was).

Not surprised you are annoyed with that bird. But recently we got something from Aldi that had won some sort of award. It was a slow cooked shoulder of lamb. Both of us put most of it in the bin. It was not nice at all. I don't personally shop at Aldi and don't think I'm missing out on much after tasting their 'Award Winner' and seeing these pics.
I think the turkey might have a bit of water in it don't you think with that weight

Have to say if I were to buy a chicken to roast and would not want to pay the Marks or Waitrose price, I would always pick Aldi's fresh/uncooked chicken. It has more flavour than any other basic supermarket chicken. And being brought up on freshly cooked meals and mostly home reared and processed pork and poultry I am rather fussy ;-)

Me! Thigh is the best bit. I also love gnawing on the wings while the beast is resting. I think breast meat is the most rubbish part. For Christmas dinner I wouldn't want to get the opposite end of the crown (the legs and wings) because it's all about the spectacle of the turkey, but for any other time I'd happily ditch that tasteless white bulging bosom.
It is a sort of snobbery, I'll admit. If you don't know how to make real gravy I also snigger behind my handkerchief at your quaint attempt at festivities.
Now Merry Christmas to you.

There is no Bisto in my cupboards I assure you ;-) As for the poultry meat give me the chicken or duck's legs any time! Was just commenting about the majority of a population in general as have seen them liking breast, while the rest of the bird is going to waste, hence a solution of buying a crown instead.
Ho ho ho, merry Christmas
