How to book: DIY holidays are when you book flights and hotels separately and are required to make payments to various suppliers. You will need to click the separate booking buttons which can be found above (blue buttons) and make individual payments to each of the respective suppliers. You should always check that the prices are the same and/or similar to the prices displayed on our screen shots, to ensure that the components of the offer have not gone up in price. If the listed dates or airports do not suit you, or you want to extend or shorten your stay, just go ahead and tweak the search according to your own preferences! This may, however lead to the price increasing. Additionally, the hotels and flights we have used are only an example of what package can be created, and you always have the option to select a cheaper or more expensive hotel to suit your budget.

Makarska may look beautiful but its not that brilliant. It's just a basic holiday town with a small, nice old town.

Definately a holiday for summer July is usually great weather
ps. Why drive the coastline when you can get a ferry from split to Bol or hvar and then onto kotor and onto Dubrovnik
Or many other of the Islands

Average temp in Dubrovnik is 12 Celsius (7 min 16 max) in April, I prefer a bit wormer holidays.

I agree with the plitvice comment. Stunning place. If you find that you've got extra time whilst in dubrovnik, Kotor is about 90 minutes drive into montenegro. Fantastic place, I recommend you visit and take a bit of a hike up to the fortress. Stunning views of a beautiful area.

This certainly looks like a good deal. You could do it without car hire too if you don't drive as the bus service in Croatia is really good.
I highly recommend you fit in a day trip to Plitvice while you're in Croatia. It's possibly the most beautiful place in the country and is what attracted me to book a trip there myself next year. With that itinerary you'd do it from Split.
Makarska looks beautiful, I hadn't even considered it for my own trip so might have to fit it in now!

The last time I explored this stretch of coast was in 1994, in a white-painted Land Rover. It would be nice to see it in a different context.

The stretch between Split and Dubrovnik in 1994 were still a holiday for the people in white painted land rovers
