Yes me and my son have given up on it, Its just rubbish now a fifty year old man running around being silly and so boring I actually fell asleep in one episode.

It's not Capaldi that's making it boring....
It's the writer Steven Moffat.
Doctor Who has been sub par ever since season 5. (Matt Smith).

He tends to write pretentious, boring, art house-ish episodes despite writing good ones when he collaborated with Russel T Davis and the other writers.
Now he has a monopoly.

No offense to Moffat but seriously....you've kinda ruined Doctor Who for FIVE WHOLE SERIES. Let someone else have a go!!!

Moffat only made good episodes when he write as part of a team of writers.
If the modern DW era, series 1 and 2 are impeccable. Series 3 and 4 were not as good but had some gems....but then it went sorely downhill from series 5.
I remember that awful Matt Smith episode that was like a soap opera with Amy complaining all the time as she was pregnant and Rory was just treated like an idiot. Terrible.

But the 50th anniversary was good I suppose. I'm just wondering why Billie Piper looks so different!
And Christopher Eccleston should have been in it, in person (and not just digitally put in).

Series 5 and onwards have been awful.
I'm not gonna be ageist and say Capaldi's too old but I'm blaming the writer.
Series 9 is better than series 8 and the Matt Smith era (less annoying at least)
but at the price of still being quite bland.

They really need to either fire Moffat or preferably make him work with the old writers again like Russel T Davis.

Series 1-4 were brilliant,
particularly 1 and 2.

Moffat's been ruining the show writing by himself for FIVE SERIES now.
He needs to drop the monopoly and let others have a go!
Doctor Who has become too pretentious, art-housey, soap opera-ish and just plain slow and boring. :disappointed:

​I agree it is mainly the stories which are at fault but think Capaldi is a much better doctor than Matt Smith. My favourite is still Jon Pertwee though :smile:

Seriously though I thought Matt Smith and Karen Gillan were a good pairing at a time when the series relied more on the story than the special effects.

I think now it is disappearing up its own backside in an attempt to be different from what's gone before. Definitely a show in need of a rest before it is again abandoned for decades.

Still think David Tennant nailed it in recent times.

Not been the same since David Tennant left and John Simm was the Master. They were classic times. Peter Capaldi is a good actor but not suited to being the Doctor. I agree that Russell T Davis should come back or just give it a break.

Yes, it alternates, and sometimes even at the same time.
It's that bad. (Most of season 5 - 9)
Other times it's just annoying or bland.

Jenna wasn't bad initially but then she got really
passive aggressive and kept bangin' on about
her boyfriend. :man:

Modern Who never relied on special effects.
Look at series 1 episode 1....while the special effects are certainly forgivable....
they're not that good (understandably with the budget of a new series at the time in 2005)
but the stories in series 1 and 2 were generally golden compared to those
of the newer series (5 and onwards).

Moffat has made terrible and good episodes in both eras:

E.g. the Vashta Nerada episode (apart from a couple of scenes)
was fairly bad.
But the weeping angels one (while not perfect)
was a brilliant addition to the Who collection.
That DVD extras storyline was genius.:confused:
This is why he needs to work with other people.

But I just meant that my point was it's not just the actor
that determines how good an episode will be....
The writer definitely has influence too.
Hence why I'm blaming Moffat for (fairly) consistently ruining
the series for 5 whole seasons with 2 different doctors...
I can only conclude it's the writer's fault.
Not the actors.
Not the cinematographer.
Not the director (ok maybe).
The writer.
