Staff get a fairly hefty discount I believe.

When trading in at Game to get store credit do they give you a voucher or put points on your reward card?

Where i live GAME and CEX are literally a 5 or 10 min walk.

I once traded in about £20 worth of micro sd cards many yrs ago and the clown behind the counter gave me £60 worth. He was newbie and didn't know what he was doing lol

Would do the same but isn't worth it. Cex is a 10 minute walk away from me. GAME is 30 minutes away via bus. Not worth an extra quid when a bus ride is £1.50 each way

I didn't post an opinion in order to engage into an argument. Also, popularity is no barometer for quality. In my opinion, the price differential between CEX's second hand prices and what the game can be obtained for brand new isn't worth the hassle in most instances.

Case in point: I bought CoD AW (PS4) for £9.99 brand new a few weeks ago. Via this very site...

I used to buy second hand goods from CEX for previous gen consoles (Wii, XB360 and PS3) as the games were pretty cheap in comparison to them being brand new, and because I used to enjoy browsing through their shelves. But at some point I realised, and especially with current gen (Wii U, XBOne, PS4) that I was paying just as much for a second hand copy as what would have cost for a brand new version of the same game - and in most cases the brand new copy was cheaper.

That's the beauty of HotUK... If you keep your eyes open and check back regularly, you can often find brand new copies for less than what CEX charge for second hand. I honestly think that if you come to this site often enough, at some point, you realise that CEX doesn't even factor into your buying equation as an option.

Sure, if I decide to buy a game brand new, it MIGHT be slightly more expensive than what CEX charge, but at the same time I'll always know that it'll be brand new, the disks will be immaculate, and the package won't be missing any manuals or extra bits. I'll also be assured that I'll be supporting the industry and that my money will be going towards developers who'll be incentivised into making more games.

Nowadays, if I have to sell a game to CEX, I always insist on taking cash. I'd rather take the cash (and walk away) than be tied down into their ecosystem.

They charge more because they're pretty generous with their tradein credit.

I popped into Stratford cex last week, their Driveclub was £12 :disappointed: don't know why

They also tend to charge more... but hey. And sell fake goods (yes I was stung by this - bought Adobe photoshop there and Adobe wouldn't activate it saying the code didn't exist - told CEX they weren't that concerned or bothered about it!).

Only one thing they are good for and that's getting cash for some goods they give over the odds for. IE buy something from amazon for £15 and sell it to CEX for £20.

I would rather use game and there over inflated rather buy cheaper digital prices than use cex or cash generator. at least then I know I haven't purchased some kids stolen game via burglary or drug addicted family member wanting a fix.

​I thought the same until I had to deal with the CEX customer service team. Rude, unhelpful, misleading, ignored several emails. Look deeper into reviews online and you'll see how bad they are. Wish I'd used anyone else even if it cost more.

You can't seriously be comparing the quality of CEX and Amazon?

Its hardly in stock in any Argos stores however (within 25 miles of me anyway) so postage has to applied on top for a delivery. Amazon is in stock agreed for £13.99 but again, postage on top in most cases as its under £20 (bringing it to £16. So CEX is still a decent deal.

Battlefield for £12 is decent. As the premium upgrade can currently be had for £16 on PSN (down from £39.99) until tomorrow. So your effectively able to buy the full Premium Battlefield 4 currently for £28 which is an absolute bargain.

So I popped to town and used up some vouchers I've had in my wallet for years (really!) and got the above along with Driveclub for a whole 20p.

People criticize GAME a lot on here but when it comes to the condition of pre-owned games i have received GAMES have been in the far better condition than CEX (based on at least a 30 sample size of each between me and my brother)

Game price match (plus £1 extra) on trade ins. Just show them the price on your phone. This is for cash or credit.

I do this all the time as cex offer better prices 99% of the time but I'd rather have game credit.

Prices didn't match 2 x London stores today. Their online orders are slow to be delivered in comparison to other media retailers (one week+ in half a dozen situations for me).

I've just been to CEX in Torquay. None of the games had been reduced to these prices.

I took my PS4 copy of blops 3 in after a couple of days and the fella behind the counter bought it straight away for £50.
I only paid £35 for it new!

Of course all companies have issues, I'm just saying that companies like Tesco and Amazon are quick to fix theirs whereas CEX aren't or don't at all, is that too hard to understand for you?

Yeah my fiancé bought me batman for £48 but we got it a week early lol

I get them to price match all the time. Getting them to price match the trades helped pay for my Pipboy. I have traded games for more than I bought them for, when you can get more trade than you can sell a second hand game for helps absorb some of the overcharge game add. Also trade in instore and buying online also helps.

One thing I want to know does anyone ever play CEX's stupid prices on newish games? I mean £48 for for Black Ops 3!

I just use my trade in towards PSN credit or something. Even Game can't inflate those prices! :smile:

I have never ordered from them online as usually when you factor in the £2.50 postage they aren't worth it. My local store is fine though.

They do give better trade in prices than CEX. They beat them by a quid if you go in armed with the website loaded up on your phone. In fact last time I went in they whipped out an ipad and checked for themselves.

I agree they arent the best online but if i want anything from them i just go down to my local store.

Because the day your order doesn't turn up or you have an issue with it, you know Tesco/Amazon will refund you and take care of you promptly. That's gotta be worth a couple of pounds.
