For in-ear, I normally use Sony EX650.
I ordered a IE8i. I hope IE8i has enough improvement on performance over EX650 to justify its price.
I did not go for IE80 as it is too expensive.

I received my Bose AE2w, I am over the moon. I am so happy with it.
Before I purchase, I really doubted it as I do not like Bose bassy sound.
But in AE2w, I found the sound to be balanced, not overly bassy, the amount of bass is just what I like.
They are lightweight and so comfortable. I cannot believe the softness of the cushion.
I do not particularly like the look due to the bluetooth unit stick out, but I got it in the lighting deal for £99. The new version looks better but for £240 on amazon UK. For what I paid, I really cannot complain.
I prefer AE2w over Plantronics Backbeat Pro. I know on normal price, AE2w is a lot more expensive than Backbeat Pro. But I paid similar amount.
For wireless headphones, I made my pick and settled although I still got Philips Fidelio M2BTBK on delivery.

I think headphones are really so personal. It depends on your music taste, (basehead Vs Classical Vs Pop Vs etc..) and your expectation of quality Vs sound isolation Vs convenience etc. .And the technology moves on and prices come down...
I loved this comment on the What HI-FI review of the BT Bose Their basic looks might not do wonders for your street cred, but on the plus side at least they’re not ostentatiously nickable

On the subject of the AKG 451's - my son has a pair and he loves them.
If we all liked the same things they would only make one of everything - one car, one sofa, one pair of headphones.....

AKG K451 have very good reviews.
I have a pair bought from Superfi.
I do not like them at all, do not like how they sound, and they are uncomfortable to wear.
I do not get why people think K451 is good.
I bearly use them in two years.

I like Plantronics backbeat Pro mid and high, controls, battery and everything else.
I found its mid and high are really good, clear, warm and detailed.
Except the bass, when I play bassy music, the bass is muddy and covered up everything else.

I plan to use them on the train. And I do not like wires. I use Sony A15 walkman which support APTX on bluetooth.
I cannot take wired headphone + bluetooth use outside.
I just bought Philips Fidelio M2BT wireless.
Was thinking of Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Wireless, but too expensive.
Was thinking of Bose AE2W, amazon Germany reduced to €155 before. But really do not like the look of extra bluetooth unit stick out.
By the way, tomorrow amazon UK has Bose AE2W in lighting deal at 8am for Prime members.

The clue us in the name that range was their attempt at a Beat Killer -so the jacked up the base response.
The Plantronics, Beats etc are popular designs. I think you should listen to any monitor headphones (not DJ these for listening to when they are around your neck, not just on your head) Vs the popular brands that are not flat but have a raised base response. The brands from Harmon Kardon - see Wikipedia (AKG, etc) or any of the monitor / studio headphones with a separate BT adaptor. Sennheiser are a very strong brand in the studio space. Shockingly the new Beats Studio line are supposed to be really good. I've not seen or tried them but they've been improving the engineering from joke level to almost credible. The studio market is very conservative and things like availability of spares etc drive this space. I have some ADK electrostatics ideal for listening to strings - 30 years old and I can still get pads for them!
These look like the QC25 drivers with no noise cancelling. The Bose drivers are OK.
I prefer the sound of the AKG K845 units with 50mm drivers (these are over ear and larger) they are BT. I got a second pair from Amazon France last week for £106 arrived in 2 days from Amazon UK. Price is back up now just checked :disappointed:
Worth doing the research and waiting for deals. I got somer Sennheiser headphones from Peter Tyson when they had them on offer - Nice thing with these is the LiION battery slides out in a module. Knock off replacements are under $10 US for a pair. Official ones are $35US.

There is a wide range of good wireless (BT) headphones. I like the Sennheiser (I have the small MM450 and the MM550 - could not decide so got both!) and AKG sound over the Bose but that just me. Best to try out some headphones if you can. The wired version use the same drivers as the BT one so that's an indicator of sound. But wired will not sound the same as there is no BT processing.
The Bose QC25 had a good reputation for mid range Noise Cancelling. My Sennheisers are not the NC varients.
For in ear the Sure units are my favourite MUCH better than others. Note with In ear you get noise isolation (better than NC in most cases, the isolation on the Sure is so good you can only hear 1) your heartbeat 2) the sound of the headphone cable if if touches something! An unlike NC the sound is very, very pure - using wires. Small and no batteries. The foams are critical on the in ear units and after a year of use you notice they degrade and you lose isolation. But a replacement pack of offical spares is around £15 delivered. One thing to note with the high end in ear is that you must keep and use the cleaning tools as otherwise wax will block the tiny ports in the driver units - most of the good ones have 3 drivers per ear!
Worth looking at the entry level headsets too e.g. etc it also depends on your phone and the music source and listening environment.
Mine and dads arrived today, he's tried them before but this is my first trial of voice cancelling headphones.... Wow, they are incredible, it's like going deaf as soon as you flick that switch! What a dream for travelling or just getting rid of any background noise! So so impressed and great price

I purchased some AKG headphones from Amazon.DE and they had some mad ship date, arrive in 48 hour from Amazon UK even though I purchase from the German site. The box and label we all UK items, send from a UK Hub. I don't have prime but had to pay for "delivery from Germany" its all mad. But I got the AKGs for £150 less than the UK site!

No these are OVER EAR headphones they must be positioned with care, movement etc will knock them off axis. They are large and have a lot of mass so will slip off / move. They cover your ears so you will sweat inside the enclosed ear cups.
For the Gym look for either noise isolation (NI) IN EAR headphones. Sure make superb NI units and Bose are good at NC.

i have both! the bose are lighter. maybe slightly better sound quality. but i have stopped using them since getting my plantronics as they are wireless! i got the plantronics due to long battery life. with noise cancellation the app tells me battery life is 25 to 30 hours. i dont find a difference in noise cancellation with music at work. good for phone calls too. my main concern is batteries and if they will die after a few years. the reason i got bose is because they take two aaa batteries. but loving the wireless plantronics.

You need batteries for the noise cancellation feature. It runs an algorithm whilst the noise cancellation is on to negate certain wave frequencies so the headphones need power from the batteries.
