Not bad oil at all. If the specs match, you cant get better for £10-13. Of course Shell Helix Ultra and Quantum Platinum are better, but double the price at around £20-23. But you will get more quality. Or if you want the best oil on the market, then buy some Millers Nanodrive at around £60 for 5ltr.

i have been using this oil in both my daily drive changed every 5k no problem and also in my forged c20let motor 380bhp but changed every 500 miles as i dont use it much. ive had sump off to check on mains and bore scoped it no problems with 2k miles done so im happy using it.

Yep, you need PD engine oil ideally the Quantum stuff (main stealers), only stuff I have ever used for oh 1.9 tdi PD. Eurocarparts also do PD engine oil. They are crooks with their promotions and price fluctuations on website , clever marketing.

What makes them 'better'?

Higher quality protecting elements when oil is hot, and wont weaken as quickly and burn as quickly as lower valued oil. Most performance mapping places recommend Quantum, best all rounder for price+performance.

Similar situation if your car supports 5w30/5w40, The two oils will be the same viscosity when cold, so both are good for getting oil around quickly when cold. But 5w30 will be thinner when hot, so when pushing the engine and creating allot of heat the oil may shear (loosing protection) where as the 5w40 will stay thicker at the same heat. Also oil temps will go up quicker with thinner oils. Downside of the heavier weight 5w40, potentially there may be an area of an engine very tightly confined and the oil struggles to fluently seep through. I doubt it but possible....

In reality most manufacturers moved to 'lighter oil' to reduce engine drag which in turn improves fuel economy. I'm still no convinced on 0w20 that some manufactures have started using.

As for the 'better' by question by Ricky. As new oil apart from a difference is additives (mainly for cleaning but also lubrication) there is probably little between them. Most of the development in recent times has been spent keeping the oil specs for extended intervals.

So many manufactures now have different service schedules. One standard and one extended. So for example for standard they may state that the minimum spec required is MB229.3 but the extended requires MB229.5.

I have just bought this (car currently using Shell ultra) and as It does about 16k a year will change it twice during the year. I have no issues using this for 8k-10k changes. If I was extending them to a year and 16k+ I'd by an extended life oil.

Probably best grab a couple of filters to add to your order. Don't save on your oil and then overspend on an over priced filter from Halfrauds. :smiley:

Been using this in all 4 cars for ages, old transit, Honda civic, ford Ka (with fiat engine) and an old ohv fiesta, took a couple on the halfords deal just before this popped up... Grrr...... oil pretty much is oil, not even sure them PD engines need PD oil, what kind of 'magic' additive must it have in to beat fully synth oil??... me thinks PD engine a sheite design and VW's get out is blame the oil...

Absolutely. Save money by using Tesco sunflower oil rather than this fancy pants synthetic rubbish. Top tip: Use EP90 gear oil in your Fiesta engine, it will help quieten down the tappets. After all, oil is oil.

Hi, just to add,,

for my vw polo it takes either 5w30 or 5w40 for extended and regular service intervals respectively.

5w30(extended) is less viscous when hot and should be used when you do mainly motorway miles etc.
5w40(regular) is more viscous when hot and be used with city driving, frequent stop start, romping.

Regular oil changes should be done every 1 year/10k miles. Extended can go much longer (castrol edge can go 2 years/18k mles).
