I got one of these for 35 the other day and was delivered the day for the mother in-law. Have to say I'm well impressed! For this money I was expecting poor screen, it to be pretty unresponsive, laggy etc but video plays great, viewing angle is a lot better than my Z3 compact. Not sure how the screen will hold up when it's sunny or if dropped but 35 quid this phone is amazing! Only thing the Mrs said is that it's a bit heavy but I like that about it. You also get a case and spare screen protector with it.
Cam is average at best and the bat has lasted ages (although I've not used it as much as I would my own phone) I'm defo gonna pic up another for a spare in case any of ours break! Best and most surprising buy for me in a long time!

The Twitter confirmation may be about the HD but their official sales channel states it will. Additionally, they effectively have the same internals.

Blu has officially confirmed this via their Twitter account and website. Additionally, the Amazon site states this and as this is the only/official sales channel for their products in the UK we can assume this is correct.
This or the Lumia 535 - currently same price at carphone warehouse (though needs a £10 top up)? Apart from the dual sim on this, are there any other differences, tempted to go with the Lumia.

I do have realistic expectations. I'm buying it as a gift and I'm trying to gauge what would be the best purchase at this price. It was a passing comment, not a criticism of the phone. If I had said its not worth £40 because it won't be updated I could understand why you're defending it the way you are.
With how often you're mentioning the price I'm starting to think it's you who can't seem to grasp it.

The point is, that given its price, it would not be unreasonable to find that it lacks long term support. I actually DO think it will receive it, as they are changing the update model for W10, but aside from that, the phone is 40 quid... Have realistic expectations!

Picked this up for £35 to replace my Motorola E where the 4gb storage was just too limiting and it had stopped picking up emails. Well impressed for the price. I actually don't know how they can put something together for this price. Does everything I need to and can have both a phone and a holiday for the price of what a lot of people pay for the phone alone!

Most people bought this phone for grandma, parents, etc XD
I think those elderly people still deserve a better phone, not just a cheap phone. Not that this phone is bad, but imagine they are not as technology savvy as the newer generation, so they will become more difficult to handle it when the phone is slow/lag, or touch screen is not sensitive. But of course the cost is a high priority for most people when considering the purchase.

Doubt it, it's such a step up from what they're used to (old flip/sliders from Nokia, Samsung etc) that they'll be more tolerant.
With regards cost, this is a perfect phone to let them dip their toes in the smartphone arena without spending loads.
Bought one for mum-in-law for Christmas when they were £35. She visits her daughter in Canada a lot and the dual sim is a neat feature.
Also checking FB on the fly without having to power up the laptop, log-on etc.
Stick some Matt Monro and Tony Bennet tunes on there and a few photos of the kids to keep her happy.
Well worth £40.
Still setting it up at the mo and being an Android user it takes me a little longer to work out how to do stuff on it but getting there.

Nice for those that can't benefit from Carphone Warehouse upgrade system. They are selling the alcactel onetouch Pixi 3, the Huawei Y330 for 99p, Huawei Y3 for £9.99 Lumia 435 for £19.99 (if your on Virgin pay as you go, and have been using it and topping up for more than 6 months!) other networks also eligible but Virgin and Vodaphone get the cheapest deals.

Excellent phone for the price - bought one when they were at £35 on friday. I've used it to replace my personal Android phone and Work supplied iPhone by using the dual sim capability (really like the way it deals with both sims). Most of the apps I use are there (missing Amazon music though), although perhaps not as slick (e.g. Flipboard dosen't actually flip, HUKD is basically a scrolling web page etc.)

Voted hot for price specification ratio but have to disagree with that statement. I've got a Lumia 640 and looking to change it for an Android. Wanted to stream football and acestream, sopcast, kodi and sky go are all unavailable for windows. Others such as cyberghost vpn, adblock and Firefox/chrome among others.
Want a good spec smart phone and don't use apps. This is a good deal.

Does this include the free SatNav with downloadable maps that the Lumia's come with? Or is that a Nokia based pre-installed/free app rather than a Windows Phone one?
chancooluk to N47H
1 Dec 151#25
It doesn't come with sat nav software pre-installed, and HERE drive (which replaced Nokia Drive) is no longer available for new users (it only shows up in the store if you already have it installed).
However, you can get around this by installing the 'Phone System Updater' app. Find the HERE section within the app, select the app you want to download and it will divert you to the Windows Store in order to download it.

BLU have been faster with updates than Microsoft have for the Lumias. Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 was released within a week of it being announced for the BLU phones, but it took months for it to arrive on the Lumias.
The BLU phones aren't currently supported by the Insider app, as there is no way to restore the firmware to a stable version if something goes wrong (Windows Device Recovery Tool currently doesn't support them). This is expected to change once Windows 10 is released officially though.

Pretty good for the money and you'll not get any smartphone for much less. Difficult to answer whether it's suitable for your mum without knowing anything about her or why she wants a smartphone. She may still do nothing more than call, text and view a few pictures.
People get very excited about choice of OS on their phone. If you're used to Windows on a PC/laptop at home or work (especially Windows 8 or 10) this is much easier to get used to than Android or iOS.
It's true that WindowsPhone has fewer apps available, but most of the ones you actually want are available for Windows.

I picked one up for the mother in law who's a complete technophobe. The tiles and custom lay out is very simple to set up and follow and big enough and easy enough to navigate even for people who struggle sight wise. As I mentioned I'm well impressed & didnt know you could get smart phones that actually work for anywhere near this price.

As you can see from my Avatar, I've been a long time fan of Android, that was until I decided to try Windows Phone, and I have to say the overall user experience is much better, and that's not just down to the phones specs, the OS seems to be more efficient, everything is just a little bit more fluid and polished.
That said, I still use Android on my tablets as a comparison, but for a phone at least I find Windows a great option, although if having access to lots of apps is important, then you'll find the Windows store has lots available, but nothing like Android, but then search for a game or something on Android, and you'll have tons of the same thing because of people wanting to rip off or cash in on popular titles, so sometimes less is more.
